Before anything I want to make clear that I oppose the referendum of independance of catalonia and tho I'll try to be as neutral as possible replying here it is possible that bias may slip through. As a person living in Spain altho not in the autonomy of Catalonia I'll explain the following, the referendum was not "proclaimed" to be illegal, it was judged to be illegal by the courts as it violated several laws that would guarantee fairness in such a referendum, for example: that no public funds may be used by authorities for campaign purposes which has resulted in several members of the catalonian autonomic goverment to be under investigation for emblezlement of said public funds. The entire referendum itself has been used by the separatist members to cause spite for years now and they've shown many times that they do not care to follow law in this regard, even the laws of their own autonomic constitution. The results themselves show how haphazardly the organization of it has been, with people taking pictures of themselves voting more than once at different locations each, some even managing to vote up to 4 times or that Michael Jackson voted "No" using the online voting system. Even if we decide to ignore these issues, the 90% figure (give or take) that have voted "yes" to said independance is not really significat when less than 43% of the total census voted, particulary when of those that didn't go some didn't want to participate in an illegal referendum and others are actually afraid of expressing their dissaproval of the separation due to fear of how they'll be treated later by neighbours, friends and work colleagues as this particular political issue seems to be highly sensitive. Now, for the police intervetion at the sites and the violence that ensued. It was ordered by the courts that the "Mossos D'escuadra" (the police of the autonomic region of Catalonia) to confiscate the voting urns as they are still a police force that has to abide by spanish law, but unfortunately some decided to perform this task with the least ammount of effort as they simply showed up, asked a few questions and decided to state that "they could not reach the places to confiscate the material" which resulted in the police forces of the Guardia Civil and PolicĂa Nacional to take over said tasks. As they proceded with this task they met with scalating resistance and violence ensued from this and said violence scalated further into severe confrontations that resulted in a lot of people getting injured. Do I agree with the use of force? This is loaded question as you expect the police to do their job but how are they supposed to do their job without using force when people obstruct them by either blocking their way and refusing to move or by holding down the urn with force or even throwing said urns to the officers when they can't old on to them any longer? Now, as far as my opinion goes for the matter of the actual referendum itself, I would not oppose it if it weren't for the fact that the reasons they're calling for independance are based on lies that essentially depict Spain as an enemy of Catalonia that has been leeching of its wealth and mistreating the catalonians when it has been the catalonian schools that have been indoctrinating the teachings that Spain is "stealing" from them while in many schools they've severely limited the classes given in Spanish resulting in complaints from non catalonian parents that have moved there. And it has been the catalonian autonomic goverment that has cut the budgets of their hospitals while they still mantain the costs of having Catalonian "Embassies".

Searching around I did find a script somone made that will display the Windows Key on screen for you to note it down, and as for the installation discs, you can easely create one for future use with MS tool found here https://www.microsof...load/windows10. As for the vbs script, I can't find the actual page but I can just paste the code here: Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") MsgBox ConvertToKey(WshShell.RegRead("HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId")) Function ConvertToKey(Key) Const KeyOffset = 52 i = 28 Chars = "BCDFGHJKMPQRTVWXY2346789" Do Cur = 0 x = 14 Do Cur = Cur * 256 Cur = Key(x + KeyOffset) + Cur Key(x + KeyOffset) = (Cur \ 24) And 255 Cur = Cur Mod 24 x = x -1 Loop While x >= 0 i = i -1 KeyOutput = Mid(Chars, Cur + 1, 1) & KeyOutput If (((29 - i) Mod 6) = 0) And (i <> -1) Then i = i -1 KeyOutput = "-" & KeyOutput End If Loop While i >= 0 ConvertToKey = KeyOutput End Function The reason for the code is because the key is not stored as plain text but in a binary value and jumbled(?) Oh, forgot to mention that when saving the script file, remember to change the extension to .vbs And I also should mention that I've only tried this with Windows 7, but it should most likely work with both 8 and 10 (wishful thinking?)

This is why I'm avoiding the upgrade and getting ready for a fresh install instead. If you still would like to try to get win10 installed the you could just use their media cretion tool to create an installation DVD for it. As long as you have the key at hand or you can recover it from the registry you'll be set.

Honestly, I just don't understand MS mentality. The optional automatic update of drivers was fine, good for those users that are PC incompetent and the option for those more savvy to have it off as they would do it themselves. There's always going to be conflicts with uptades but if you're going to enforce them you just make matters so much worse.

I'm still around, I'm just in super-lurker mode so that's why you don't see much activity from me. The only reason you find yourself where you "must" upgrade would be if you really "must have" that game that only works in the DirectX version that windows 10 has. Otherwise, patience is key, take a couple of days off from any work and social interaction, have all the install/recovery disks and drivers ready for a reinstall if things go horribly wrong, backups aren't a bad idea or just accept that if something does go wrong you will lose data. You could also get a new (or used) HD to perform a fresh windows install so that you can test the upgrade process on that drive. Not sure if dual booting will be possible between your current version and 10 or if the upgrade won't allow for that unless you already have a dual boot setup.

What I think I'll be doing is making the reservation and wait until others make reports of the upgrade process and see if there's any major issues. You're not required to upgrade inmedietly once it's released, you can hold off for a while. Once enough guinea pigs come back alive, then I'll take the leap myself.

How to give Martians territory? (via VFS editing?)
Kret replied to Darkflame's topic in UFO: Afterlight
Been such a long time since I've dived into the vfs files, but I do seem to recall people doing this previously. It should be possible to change territory ownership altho I'm not sure if you can restore their HQ wich might or might not be required to be able to stablish peace. Alternatively you can "give" yourself the item requiremts to make a research available, but again, so much time has passed that I just don't recall where all these bits are kept within the save file. I'd suggest using the search option and you should find a couple of threads dealing with this. -
Single Player And Multiplayer Begin To Merge
Kret replied to Marutia Ortia's topic in General Game Discussion
Not only do they require reliable servers, but many of us can't really rely on our own ISP nor the country nodes to be reliable. It's understandable that the multiplayer component will not work if any of the mentioned factors fail, but not so much when you want to play single player. The crossover of the multiplayer and single player experience seems like a nice innovation, but it should be treated as a extra for the consumer, not a way to force always online for the single player experience. If it is the future of game development, then it is a future I dislike. -

Well, 2K has posted a video, and following the links on the description seems to comfirm that they've moved into a 3rd person squad tactical shooter. Still no actual gameplay footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyGvBzQ9nNI

You need to upgrade your terraforming stations to go beyond 62%. It's been a while since I played so I don't remember the conditions for this, but you should get it eventually.

Yeah, I thoght the same initially, but that was the only thing that could explain why the soldier got flanked. If he is actually talking about the active soldier, then I have no idea how that one would get flanked at the position it's moving and the current alien's position.
-
Well, cover is directional and only works with inmediatly adjacent units (diagonal cover does not apply). In the case of the picture you've provided, the guy at the bottom left is getting full cover from the big container, but that's only covering it's lower left flank, all his other flanks are exposed, but you can't see this because the alien is most likely barely out of it's sight range to even see the soldier. At this poing, comes the alien's turn, it moves to the pod, sees the unit and is flanking it.

Well, the shard they leave behind is identified as an antenna. So I believe that the Outsider is not really a living creature, but just a remote controlled one with no will of it's own.

I've had many cases where the 2nd shot connected while the 1st one missed with rapid fire. I like to use it a lot with the plasma pistol when the target is too far away for the main weapon or the target's weak enough that the pistol is enough to kill it with either shot, saving ammo for the next round. I've also once used an alloy cannon vs a beserker, hitting it with both shots of the rapid fire made it move close enough to trigger CC to finish it off.
