Laser Squad
The game keeps crashing on me and locking up my PC all the time. Now how's that for originality ? Judging from all the posts in several boards, there must be something definitely very wrong with the state in which this game was released, let's face it... Well, anyway: I managed to at least be able to *load* the game by using the Graphic Configurator to lower video options. The thing is, even with all of them at the lowest possible settings the game will keep crashing left and right. The maximum time I was able to play so far before the next crash was about 10 minutes - frankly, it's ridiculous. The intro after the Nvidia logo does play in a somewhat jerky mode (in safe mode it plays normally, although the game also crashes in safe mode). Below I'm enclosing full DXdiag and config.cfg reports, in hopes that someone can provide me with some help and ideas. I'd really like to be able to enjoy this game, after years of waiting (since Jagged Alliance 2 & expansions) for the next cool turn-based tactical combat game. My essential specs: Intel Celeron 700MHz256MB RAMNvidia GeForce2 MX400 64MBCreative SoundBlaster Live! ValueWindows 98SE Things that I already tried: - Browse this and other places for tips and ideas- Lower all video settings in the game to minimum- Lower hardware acceleration for the sound and graphics boards by a couple notches- Try different graphics board driver versions (40.72 and 56.64)- Disable hardware cursor in the game- Try both 16 and 32 bit modes in the game For reference, I'm not running any other applications when I start the game (a ctrl+alt+del reveals everything I need in my OS, systray and explorer). It was definitely easier running Laser Squad in my ZX Spectrum...

chemchok
A few random suggestions.... Set your desktop view to what you will be using in the game (resolution and color depth). In your case, I'd definitely use 16 bit color depth @ 1024x768 if possible (800x600 otherwise). Make sure anti-aliasing is off, and textures are set to low - I know you've probably seen this enough already. Another thing you could try is manually disabling your sound card (in device manager) so you can completely rule that out as the cause. The only other thing I have to add is that it's strange it always crashes. It sounds more like a driver problem (although you are just squeaking above the minimum specs). Oh, and degragment your drive, sometimes this can make all the difference, especially if you're uninstalling and reinstalling games frequently. Guest Anonymous
Thanks for answering chemchok, tried those with no luck... I've run dozens of games in my current system along the last few years and never had any real problems with any of them... I've also tried the game in a friend's PC (a 1800GHZ AMD) and it produced several crashes too, even after fiddling with the video options and config.cfg  What's the point of making a great game if you're not going to bother and finish its code properly before starting making money with it ?
