  1. VirtualBox with WinXP. No need to buy anything if you've got an XP disc lying around.
  2. Version 2 http://www.mediafire.com/download/bx5ymx88bcez0ak/Firearms_Mod_v2_by_LCJr.zip Pretty much the same as before, just some more tweaking of small arms stats. Weapons order of appearance in the armory adjusted to better fit the new stats, etc... Most likely the final version.
  3. Firearms mod v1. http://www.mediafire..._v1_by_LCJr.zip This is a very simple weapons mod for the Silent Storm. Detailed readme in the file. Short version: Small arms values tweaked. Anti-tank grenades and rocket launchers are effective against PK's. All rifles do damage to PK's but you're better off with a RL. Only class change is the Grenadier now hides as well as the Soldier, Medic and Engineer class. Faster Shots Perk fixed.
  4. Not that I'm aware of. IIRC there were some lend-lease .303 Ross rifles turned into 7.62x54R match rifles. The only common rechamber I'm aware of is to the 9x54R hunting cartridge. I know the Finn's use it and I think the Russians do too. Basically when you shoot the rifling out of your trusty Mosin you rebore it to 9mm and go moose hunting:)To change it to .303 you'd have to rebarrel, modify the bolt head and the magazine might need to be modified some too. The bore diameters and overall length are very close but the 7.62x54R has a larger diameter case.
  5. Sounds about the same as S2. Allied PK's 400-450, Axis 550-700 and TH at 600. The big difference is in S2 only 7.62x54R weapons, heavy grenades and the PIAT will damage them. They didn't set the penetration high enough for the other rifles and rocket launchers to have any effect.
  6. Very nice texture on the S&W. I've always wondered why Nival chose that model though instead of one of the British service Webley's or the Enfield No. 2? 1. It's simply a more powerful round than the 9mm Parabellum. 2. I'd say a little more damaging than a 9mm Parabellum and with a little more range. Ballpark 125 grain/8.1 gram bullet @ 1476 fps/450 mps. ~0.82 ft/lbs momentum or 605 ft/lbs KE. But then again with the rate enemies in Sentinels gain VP you can't really go with hard numbers:) 3. Prototypes were made for the military in 9x25mm 'Broomhandle' but they never got any contracts. I'm unsure if any pistols were sold commercially in this caliber but it was used in the Mauser carbines. Although without a new model that doesn't help. The only other weapons I'm aware of, besides the Steyr, were the Hungarian SMG's 39.M/43.M/44.M http://hungariae.com/ and SIG MKxx series. But again no model. Might be able to fake it with Beretta 38A, MP41 or maybe even the M1 Carbine? 4. One of the Broomhandle prototypes would be unique. Any of the SMG's would be uncommon.
  7. Yes, the 7.63 Mauser and 7.62 Tokarev is pretty confusing. If cruffler.com is still alive they used have an article, 'I think' in the Technical Trivia' section, on the two. IIRC there are some tiny dimensional differences but nothing stopping them from being used in either weapon. Also working off memory the some of Tokarev rounds are loaded a little hotter so in the real world I wouldn't risk a valuable antique over cheaper ammo. Also 10-20 years ago there was a batch of very hot loaded 7.62 Tokarev(intended for SMG's only, Bulgarian maybe) that hit the surplus market. That ammo did damage several valuable guns and gave surplus 7.62 Tokarev a bad rep. If you really want to do something out of the ordinary with the Mauser look up 9x25mm Mauser Export. Very close to a standard .357 Magnum load with the same weight bullet. The only military usage I know of is the Hungarians used it during WW2 in their Kiraly/Danuvia 39M and 43M SMG's. Question, have you tested the increase grenade range mod at higher skill levels? I'd suspected for awhile skill increased throwing distance and finally tested it out in S2. At level 1 a grenadier standing with Throwing 29 has a max range of 12 with a RG-42(medium). At 95 skill and no perks max range is 19. At 170 skill max range is 29. In Silent Storm I really doubt you'd hit those numbers without using Skill Watchdog but it might be possible in Sentinels.
  8. Surprised this account still works. BlunterII nice uniform textures. Good timing too as I've been seeing how well these games run on Linux w/Wine. You said to tell you if you're going overboard and I think you are on several things. I'd also say your weapon research needs improvement but you're the one doing work and maybe you're just not that concerned about it. The doubling the uses of engineering/medical items seems unnecessary to me. The skill system in Sentinels is such an improvement over the original. On your Mauser Astra it should just be Astra 900. Astra is a Spanish firearms manufacturer. .30 Mauser wouldn't really be any different than 7.62x25mm Tokarev. Technically there are some very minor differences between the 7.63x25mm Mauser and 7.62x25mm Tokarev but for all practical purposes they're the same cartridge. Also wouldn't be a good choice for adding a suppressor. Although the Chinese did produce suppressed SMG's and subsonic Tokarev rounds starting in the 60's. A few other things. I really don't see 7.62x25mm Tokarev damaging a Panzerklein. From what I've read the API was intended for the gas tanks of German trucks. I've never seen any specifics on core either just 'steel core'. No mention of it was even hardened steel. Pretty much all the Soviet ammo has a steel core although for the standard rifle rounds it's about the same as the metal used in wire coat hangers. .30 Carbine KTW, KTW is a company that was founded in the 70's and made armor piercing ammo. They're the ones the media tagged with the 'cop killer bullet' label and started the myth of teflon coated bullets defeating soft body armor. Haven't looked at all of it yet and again you may not care.
  9. Carcano M38 was originally chambered in 7.35x51mm Carcano. Ammo supply problems led them to be withdrawn from service. M38's rebarreled to 6.5x52mm Carcano are known as M91/38. Carcanos were made in 7.92x57mm. Details are vague, some say the Italians made ~50,000 for the Africa campaign to ease supply problems. Possibly some were also converted by the Germans to make use of captured rifles after the Italians surrendered. I've seen these named as M38S or M38 S. I'm not sure if it's official or just something collectors use to distinguish between models. The 7.92mm conversions are of questionable safety. 6.5mm military loads run around 38,000 psi and the 7.92 at 50,000+ psi.
  10. The Editor trys to use the default password for the SQL server install. Hopefully someone can chime in and tell you how to change the password in the editor because I'd like to know myself. In the meantime uninstall the SQL server and delete the Microsoft SQL Server folder, if you leave the folder you'll get an error on reinstall. Before you reinstall the SQL server check the setup.ini and make sure it has the line "SAPWD=simple". Don't mess with the password when reinstalling and it should work.
  11. I'll handle the pop guns if you bring your Nebelwerfer.
  12. Vickers MG should be 0.5 inch. 5" would be a light naval gun:) Mauser C96 image may not be a Bolo. The Bolo term is debateable and is generally used to describe Mauser's with a short barrel and/or smaller grips. Typically the post WW1 Mausers with 3.5-3.9" barrels are called Bolo's. Nagant revolver ammo is 7.62x38R, the R standing for rimmed. The image of the Webley is actually a Webley Frontier circa 1880's. The Mk VI is a top break and has squared off grips not the "birds head" style. Pretty bizarre choice of image if you ask me. Vickers did produce Lugers under license. Holland was one of their customers. Pistols were issued to the Dutch East Indies Army. Welrod is a magazine fed bolt action. 5 rounds 9x19mm, 6 rounds .32 Auto. Suppressed STEN's and the Welrod don't require subsonic ammo. The barrels are ported(have holes drilled in them) to bleed powder gasses and reduce velocity to subsonic speed. Makes the suppressor get hot fast hence the canvas cover. Automatic fire on the STEN was only to be used in an emergency. Bergmann is MP28.II. Soumi magazine is officially 70 rounds but it will hold 72. Also available was a 20 rd(will hold up to 25) box, 50 rd box(loading more was forbidden since it caused jams) and 40 rd drum. 33/40 should be Gewehr 33/40. Why the Germans chose to call a carbine a rifle is beyond me. The few scoped images I've seen show the ZF 41 scope. As long as your doing research why not add the correct firing modes and cyclic rates? For example the Beretta 38 series and MP41 are selectfire. Why doesn't the Lewis have short burst? PPD and Soumi have a cylic rate of ~800 rpm, PPSh 41 ~900 rpm. Yet ingame(S2) the Soumi has short burst 3 and the PPD/PPSh have 4. Etc., etc...
