Take 2 has revealed it's release plan calendar.

Looks like 2K Marine is having some serious difficulties and XCOM FPS will be released in 2014.

Well, perhaps they will actually make it into something really good. Or, as these delays often goes, nothing bad will come out of it.

Fiscal 2014 to be precise, so anywhere between April 2013 to March 2014.
May your terror missions always be infested with Chrysalids.

I don't know why, but my first response when seeing this was "oh, they're still making that game?".

- NKF
NKF - finally built a gaming PC in 2020 (though not any of that RGB nonsense). Can now play games up to '89!

This could mean anything from "they're taking this seriously and want to make sure it's a decent game" to "they've re-assigned the team and don't want to admit it yet".

I suspect they're waiting for a release slot where there aren't any big titles to compete with. Either that, or they want to hold off until they see how well Firaxis fares; it may be that if the tactical game flops, the FPS will get polished up and kicked onto the market, and that'll be the end of it. If the tactical game is a hit, the FPS will be dropped and they'll start pouring cash into more tactical games.

True, but I still think it will be winter 2013/2014.

Well, hope springs eternal; but I wouldn't place any bets on that.

From Take-Two:

"2K Marin continues to move forward" with XCOM said the publisher during its investor call, "which is planned for release during fiscal year 2014"

::

This reminds me of a certain movie scene.

By then, it'll either be quite different to what we've seen or completely forgotten.
