Even if I update the OS soon, I'm not trying SotS2 for at least a month or two after the "all green" comes from Kerberos. I would like to start with it in a finished state, so that it does not leave a bad taste.

Haha then I am afraid you would have to replace month with half-year or year ;)

I've put few posts in technical forum on Kerberos will see the response.

Don't push it, Mecron is known to be very, VERY touchy. And always right... ;)

It would be much better if many things would be discussed somewhere but finding some specific information requires "pushing"

The game looks really nice. Weapons sounds are terrible though.

Did I really notice the Doppler effect while you moved the camera around?

Well they aren't star wars lasers ;)

I wouldn't know how to recognize Doppler Effect ... so beats me.

I had a feeling that the sound changed  (distorted) when you moved the camera to or from its source. That is a Doppler effect with sound.

Ol' sparky encounter. A little anticlimactic ending. I have weakened him by sacrificing 3 old tech fleets. He appeared to quickly and right inside of my borders so I had to act quickly.

In SotS2 he moves from system to system not in straight line like it was in SotS1. He eats only planets - every turn 1 planet.

Here is a few new pictures I've made from my recent playthrough - the farthest because I actually will be able to finish this game.

I've also made a movie but unfortunetally I would need SSD disc to keep the desired framerate. I will see how it will look after I will compress it and upload to youtube.

A Thorondor type Fleet finishes bombarding Morrigi planet. This is the perspective view from the SFS Thorondor The Great Mk2 Leviathan class ship. In front you can see SFS Super Thorondor War class Dreadnoughts and SFS Thorondor Mk 4. War class Cruisers.

Posted Image

A side view of SFS Super Veki Support Class Dreadnought. Very essential for any invading fleets.

Posted Image

A closeup on "Nurse Jenny" on SFS Thorondor class Cruiser.

Posted Image

SFS Super Veki from different angle.

Posted Image

Now you can see how long it should take for you to begin research salvaged tech

Posted Image

Edit: The movie after compression plays fine. Now good thing I've upped my internet and uploading 2GB shouldn't take long.

Edit 2: When it will be ready you can watch.

Very nice video! Posted Image
Interesting to see support ships on the first line of combat. Isn't that a bit risky?

With that firepower and armour why not - Besides it's Super Veki ;) ? I probably will upload 2 or 3 more final videos of more offensive driven fleets. Though strangely recording keept in 30 FPS but I think it is thanks to Sony Vegas, because while I was recording fraps showed 15-18 FPS most of the time. If I had SSD this probably wouldn't been an issue. The above uncompressed video sized at 15GB while after Sony Vegas render it went down to 2GB ( an hour of upload on my net).

Ah, a Leviathan does short work of everything. Were the disks flying around polarised plasmatics?

To be more precise Chakkram - I failed a good roll on feasibility on AM Heavy Cannon and Neutron Beam. And AM Cannon is weaker comparing to them I think at least in armor penetration.

And if you wonder how much for Leviathan - 110 millions for prototype with improved prototyping - 89 million for the next one with the techs I am applying.

To compare a Dreadnought with same technology costs up to 20 millions and Cruiser 10 millions.

Leviathans have battle raiders slots and there are two type of Leviathans - this one is the normal one that has 2 battle hangars for total of 12 battle raiders and 4 slots of 8 battle raiders backups.

So if you add battle raiders the price of fully equipped leviathan goes up to 120-130 millions (for prototype).

The second one is a bit cheaper carries less guns and can't have adamantine alloys (for humans anyway) but carries more battle raider slots - 6  and 6 backups.

Coooool! Can't wait to see it all in action first hand. Whenever.

BTW, do you feel rolling the ships to make best use of shield sections is necessary? Can one play without such level of micromanagement?

They sure do. But I am wondering what fire power can bring Space Voyager class fleet.

Space Voyager class fleet consist of:

SFS Amazing Space Voyager - Carrier Class Leviathan.
SFS Super Space Voyager - Carrier Class Dreadnoughts - 3 ships
SFS Space Voyager - Carrier Class Cruisers - 6 ships.

All of those carry payload of SFS Pete Type I (Interceptor), Type E (escort), Type H (Heavy "aka Spinal Mount"), Type P Mk2 (Patrol - I forgot armor for engine part so it's Mk2), Type T (Torpedo) and Type S (Scout) Battle Raiders.

LV carries 36 battle ready BR's, DN's carry 9 battle ready BR's and CR's carry 3 battle ready BR's so that is a hell lot of Pete's.

Of course LV's and CR's have also backup hangars to replace lost BR's during long time invasions.
