ordnance factory

To research Basic Human Weapons, you need to have a Basic Weapons Lab (or something like that). I think the lab has to be researched by the Laputa lab? Then you build on (or more) in a base, & research Basic Human Weapons.

After that you have to research Human Firearms, which allows you to research Blueprints for the various human weapon types (like submachine guns, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, etc). When you've researched the relevant Blueprint you can build the gun & any "normal " ammo it uses.

IIRC Human Firearms gives you the ability to make Desert Eagles in the Basic Weapon Factories, 9mm ammo, 5.56 ammo & 7.76 (?) ammo in the Ordinance Factories.

Go find some cultist's kill em and you won't look back.

That should have been in reply to infael - sorry :(

The Laputa lab is the one in the "floating island" that you control. This lab is already constructed, you simply have to select it in the research subscreen and you'll see all that it can research. Mostly building blueprints and some other special topics.

If you've got the Ordinance Factory, you should already have an active Basic Human Weapons Lab I think, I've only played UFOAS a couple of times so haven't really taken note of what's researched in what lab, but I think you need the Basic Human Weapons Lab to research the Ordinance Factory, look on the R&D list for that lab type and search for Basic Human Weapons and Firearms researches, you need the first to unlock the second, but get both and the Ordinance Factory will be able to build munitions of different types. Also, researching Firearms? Lets you research a group of weapon type related projects so, in addition to the Light Armour/Helmet and the Handcannon, you can build other Firearms in the Weapons Factory.

Yes,to get access to the basic humans weapons you first need a dedicated weapons lab/or labs in my case, andsupporting factorys to then manufacture them.

Striking a balance is very hard early on I have learned, but I have nominated Germany as my main weapons research facility, while Britian deals with the manufacture of the weapons and ammo, and France is producing my medical supplies.I really want Russia now though,as my weapons output isnt as fast as I want it to be.

Micromanaging all this is hard work, but worthwhile in the end I think.

So I've noticed, of course my main problem the last couple of games has been lack of anything resembling an ammo store. I couldn't figure out what factory I needed to make ammunition, until I read over the factory descriptions for what I'd got, then it was a case of *headhand*.

As for early game set up, I'm still working it out, but current game I'm going 2/2/1, for Weapons Factory, Ordinance Factory and Weapons Lab respectively, on my German base for now, then when I gain some other bases I'm going to vape the Weapons Lab and Ordinance Factories in Germany and set up elsewhere with those, instead getting another three Weapons Factories. What I'd like to get is basically five each of the major factories, as in, Weapons, Ordinance and Medical gear ASAP, that should give me some fair speed on the quicker to produce stuff.

Would be nice Darkfyre, but expansion in this game is tougher than we think, unless you have cheated or have military tactics that surpass Rommel or Monty from WWII(well maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration).

As soon as the Cultists appear(you HAVE encountered them I hope),they certainly put the brakes on any expansionist dreams,as in my case they have secured much of Africa and the Middle East, and have just took Algeria I think.

In my German base at the MOMENT,I have 1 basic weapons lab,1 laser weapons lab,1 college, and 2 basic weapons factories.

My French base is simply dedicated to medical research, and has 1 college at the moment, and 3 med labs.

The British base is awkward however,as it has only 3 slots I think, still,Britain is supporting Germany with the weapons supply, and has 2 factories and 1 ammo factory.I really want Britain to be conducting top notch space flight research though in the long run,but with 3 slots that is unlikely. What are your thoughts on Britain, where do YOU think her attention should be directed at in this game?

As soon as I get into the US,no doubt my weapons research and output will accelerate, and with Russia churning more weapons, ammo and other industrial goodies out hehe there will be an endless supply!,just like in the cold war really.

How far have you managed to expand so far anyhow?,and what are your long term goals/strategies?.

From what he said in his post, it would appear that he only has the starting base at the moment, as he only has 5 buildings (unless he's captured more bases but not connected them with tracks).

I'll click on the laputa lab to see what happens.

My first cult mission is to capture 1. Problem is I only have 1 power cell now, and a few cartridges, forcing me to have to save often within the mission. I have to, otherwise I'll never get ammo. The weapons lab is slowly being built.

I don't seem able to switch things from my off-hand to my hand after I've tossed something.

I currently have the cultist healed and in hand. Retreating is hard. :(

I've not had the time to "geek up" nor will I ever. Sigh.

I've had up to five active and connected bases before getting screwed by lack of ammo and having to restart, but yes, I've encountered the cultists and frankly of the enemies you see in the first month or so game time, the other human and humanoid hostiles are the most deadly. This last game I started fairly well, got the first base set up, then got a call from the Psionics to escort some of their people out of an engagement area where I ran into Cult Cyborgs... needless to say the shit really hit the fan there. of course the fact I had four active soldiers and two of them were equipped with shotguns instead of longer range weapons didn't help matters because they couldn't help the other two out from similar range. None of my squad came home and the Psionics got screwed over and probably killed.

I have to agree with you Darkfyre, the human rebels are VERY dangerous as they appear to use some pretty effective tactics and have a good shot too.I am cautious to attack them at the moment though,I think I may try and pursuade them instead if I can, after all,I already have a war underway with the Cyborgs,I cant afford to fight on 2 fronts.

As far as engaging Cyborgs,I like to ambush them in chokepoints if possible, and pummel em with SPAZ shotguns.I think heavy explosives would be great too, however,I am only able to use THEIR weapons at the moment instead of making my own,and this sort of heavy ordnance will be a while off yet for me.

The Cultists are very dangerous if given the time to shoot first, other than that, just use good tactics and think like your soldiers probably would.

I think i'm gonna have to attack the humans though eventually,I need their resources bad! :(
