While the formula for acceleration is well-understood...

acceleration = floor(power/weight)

...I'm kind of wondering what it actually does. Running races with pairs of vehicles with the same engine but different acceleration values (e.g. hoverbike with SD Deluxe can have anywhere from 6 to 10 acceleration), they seem to have identical turn rates and run races in equal time from a standing start.

Sooooo... what does this number actually do, if anything?

(This only has implications for whether the weight of a vehicle matters. Turn rate does seem to be affected by engine - a Valkyrie with an SD Special turns noticeably faster than one with an SD Turbo - and speed is definitely affected, so you still want good engines.)
