Below is a list of features in the final game - an impressive list I'm sure you'll agree!
Bits in blue are points corrected by Martin DeRiso - the game's producer.
Overall Features
-
Based on the Unreal Tournament
engine.
-
35 huge missions!!
-
The plot lies somewhere around
"Aliens have invaded the Earth, a disgruntled ex-X-COM scientist builds
a bloody great robot to kill them all, he names it ENFORCER and gives it
a huge arsenal and weird-looking shape!"
-
"Due to funding
cuts early on in the First Alien War, X-COM scientists canceled "the
Enforcer project". The main scientist (Prof. Standard) went off
and made the Enforcer on his own and unleashes it in the nick of time."
-
I'd really love to see how this
is even going to attempt to fit in with the already fragile and ever-changing
X-COM timeline, especially into the First Alien War!!
-
"Enforcer
kind of tip-toes through the timeline... It runs concurrent with UFO
Defense/Enemy Unknown, and the weapons are all Professor Standard's own
creations/hybrids of the standard X-COM gear. The Enforcer is taking care
of alien hotspots that X-COM can't/don't get to, or would just be overpowered
by really, since our alien count per level ranges into the hundreds...
He's like a footnote in the timeline, an "urban legend"."
-
Expect big explosions and an arcade
feel to this game! It may not appeal to all you hard-core Strategy fans...
-
"It's an arcadey
shooter, no question. We have R&D where you spend Data Points
collected in levels to unlock and upgrade weapons, like X-COM-extra-lite.
There will be familiar (and updated versions of) aliens, new ones too, we
stayed true for the most part, a few liberties were taken due to the style
of game but nothing that'll particularly offend the X-COM fan."
-
In-game cut scenes will play a part
of progressing through the game story-wise. I'd really like to see this
in action, as many 3D games today incorporate this feature. Take "MechWarrior
4: Vengeance" for example...
Traditional
X-COM Features
-
Apparently, we will see upgraded
and kinda-but-not-quite-familiar weapons. Can't wait!!
-
Oh, and Sectoids and Snakemen.
They look a bit too tame to me. See for yourselves in the gallery!!
-
BUT check out the Chryssalid's! They're LOADS more scary
than ever before!!
New Features
-
You will command ENFORCER over various terrains, getting
him to blast various Aliens.
-
NEW Aliens!! Check out some of the pictures in the gallery!!
There's some big mother's out there!!
-
Data points are the key to the game - points mean prizes
ladies and gents!!
-
You can only carry ONE weapon at a time - run over a weapon,
and not only will you pick it up, you'll lose the last one EVEN IF it was
a really good one.
-
"Nuker!" Cool!! Very arcade-like!!
-
More Aliens than you can wave a stick at. By the way, most
of them will be waving some sort of huge grizzly plasma stick back at you!!
-
The final version will ship with a modified version of
UnrealEd so that players can create their own maps and levels!!
-
Nice graphics? The one thing that sets it apart from the
other games... except Alliance that is!!
Multiplayer
Features
-
Can't remember if they said there WAS going to be a multiplayer...
expect one nonetheless!!
-
"Yep, we have multiplayer. Cooperative
play has been the focus, we'll see on Death Match... Games will be
easy to connect to too, just like Unreal Tournament, going through the in-game
browser (using GameSpy's server)."
-
As above, the final version will ship with a modified version
of UnrealEd so that players can create their own maps and levels!! If multiplayer
mode is incorporated, expect the Web to get flooded with maps!!
-
"We hope so! :) We'll try to
get a few more out there after release to help kick things off..."
Machine Specifications
Unlike previous titles, this baby's gonna need a bit of kick
in the machine running it before it'll go anywhere!! Below are the minimum and
recommended specifications for the game! These were taken almost directly from
an interview with Martin DeRiso over at X-COMMAND, and may not be 100% accurate.
-
Windows 95/98/ME
-
Pentium II 233mhz with hardware acceleration or Pentium
II 266 without
-
32mb RAM
-
500mb free hard disk space
-
8x CD-ROM drive
-
1 MB Windows 95/98/Me compatible sound card
-
Windows 95/98/Me compatible 4 MB SVGA video card
-
DirectX v8.0 (included) or higher
-
56k modem for multiplayer
-
Windows 95/98/ME
-
Pentium II 400mhz
-
64mb RAM
-
500mb free hard disk space
-
8x CD-ROM drive
-
100% Soundblaster compatible sound card
-
Kickass video card such as a Voodoo, GeoForce or TNT
-
DirectX v8.0 (included) or higher
-
Broadband Internet Connection (but I feel that if 56k
suffices for Half-Life mods such as Counter Strike and Team Fortress Classic,
it'll do for Enforcer!!)
Aliens
Following is the currently revealed list of nasty-bad-horrible-ass-kicking
creatures in Enforcer!!
-
Sectoids
-
Chryssalids
-
Snakemen
-
Reapers
-
Sectopods
-
Mutons (Grunts and Troopers)
-
RazorDisc - variation on the Cyberdisc
-
Hunter-Killers - floating bombs
-
Silverbacks - big snow beast thingys
Weapons
Below is a list of weapons which I have discovered that will
be in the game!!
-
Shotgun - 'nuff said
-
Rocket Launcher - a weapon that'll see frequent use!!
-
Blade Launcher - fires razor-sharp spinning things that
return to launcher (I thought Boomerang Gun sounded cooler for this one
though!!)
-
Flame Thrower - muck like the in the film "Aliens"
-
Fusion Rifle - every shoot-em-up has something similar.
Much like the plasma gun off Doom
-
Freeze Gun - enjoy Duke Nukem? This little baby's back
again!!
-
VibroBlade XL - a spinning blade which seems to chop everything
up really messily!
-
Grenade Launcher - standard army issue this is not!
-
Nuker - a pocket sized nuclear missile launcher (well,
a nuclear missile launcher anyway!)
-
Psi-Cannon - the writing was VERY blurred, but I think
this one's in! Plays hell with Sectoids...?
-
Lightning Gun - everyone's favourite Quake weapon. Has
very fast ammo-spending rate...
-
Mass Driver - instead of Rail Gun... same principle though!!
-
Laser Rifle - from the first game... 'nuff said (apparently
the default weapon, so it doesn't count as one of the 12 you can pick up)
-
Mini-Gun - the ultimate small arsenal!! (the one I was
missing!!)
Quite a list there. All of these were spotted in the Microprose
trailer, which is quite old, so some elements may have changed slightly. Expect
to see ALL of these weapons kick ass when enough power-ups have been collected!!
Power-Ups
Again, a list of power-ups from the intro movie which make
it that bit more interesting!!
-
Stealth - a sneaky, 3 metre tall robot... this'll have
to be seen to be believed!
-
Hot-Streak-Helper - flames everything you fire at
-
Repair Pack - allows Enforcer to repair itself in the field
(I guess)
-
Invulnerator - invincibility judging by the title...
-
Attack Drone - helps by attacking whatever you do!
-
Extra Life - 'nuff said
-
Greed Spree - more data points than normal then!
-
Speed Boost - speeds up an already fast-paced game
-
Missile Strike - rain down missile death on the enemy
-
Damage Intensifier - quad damage with a different name
no less!
-
Stasis Field - stop time, kill the bad guys, don't take
a single point of damage... like it!!
-
The Mass Driver turned out to be a weapon instead of a
power-up, so I'm missing one again now... sorry all!!
Miscellaneous
Here we have a list of other goodies which were worth mentioning,
but have no particular category!!
-
Hit combo's - last seen in the days of Mortal Kombat and
Street Figther, the 2,3,4...543 hit combo's are back!! Expect loads of points,
especially if you use the lightning gun in a crowded area!!
