Silent Storm Links Updated
A few years ago while I was still a normal member, I provided Slaughter with a handful of links to Silent Storm sites. A lot has happened since then, so I revisited the page today and updated everything. I also formatted it into tables to make it easier to follow. As an added bonus, you can now find links to all the YouTube videos dealing with the series! So head on in to the brand new Silent Storm Links Page today!
If you know of any links which we may be missing to sites, videos, or otherwise, please don't hesitate to mention it. Posted 29 April, 2009, 02:06 AM by Zombie

Silent Storm Review
For those of you that spent the last three years under a rock, meet Silent Storm. This tactical turn-based game is set during the World War II, and you lead a small group of brave saboteurs through a series of difficult missions. This game is a must buy for any Jagged Alliance or X-COM fan! Please allow FullAuto explain why in the StrategyCore review.
QUOTE By far the best thing about the battlefield is the physics. Rather nice rag-doll physics are prominently on display, exaggerated to make common events spectacular. Bullets punch enemies off bridges and explosions hurl them through windows, often leaving them in humorous positions that anyone as immature as I will find hilarious. But this is small potatoes compared to the fact that the environments are completely destructible. Bullets punch through doors and walls, smashed glass sprays everywhere, explosions bite roaring great chunks out of structures. Bigger explosions can simply collapse entire buildings. This freedom lends an unpredictable air to every battle, and can often influence even scripted events. Can't get through that door without getting shot? Blow a hole in the wall with a machine gun and pitch a grenade through. Sniper holding the floor above you? Shoot up through the ceiling and make him dance the lead fandango. So it has a very real effect on the gameplay, always allowing you another option as the damage you do not only opens up sightlines for shooting, but also avenues for escape or advance. The drawback is that occasionally you do too much damage to a vital structure and it collapses, and it's Game Over, baby. Ixnay on the inway. But that doesn't happen very often. You can find the slightly more (less?) mature version of this review at our sister site The Last Outpost. If you do the sane thing and buy the game, make sure you get "Silent Storm Gold" (includes the expansion as well). If not, crawl back under your rock! »
Hammer & Sickle Unofficial English Patch
The first patch for the English version of Hammer & Sickle was just released. It was put together by the lead developer of the game, but it's still not an official patch. Therefore you can't expect support from the publisher if something goes wrong. That being said, here's a list of fixes:

Hammer & Sickle Questions & Answers
There's a new Q&A at WorthPlaying with CDV's Associate Producer Mario Kroll:
QUOTE Player actions and events have a persistent, global impact. A thoughtless act of violence in an isolated area, for example, may unexpectedly bring law enforcement or enemy reinforcements throughout that region. Regions can be explored and most can be visited (and revisited) as the player prefers, with new events triggered as the story unfolds. »
Hammer & Sickle goes gold in the US!
CDV announced today that Hammer & Sickle - a game built on the Silent Storm engine by Novik&Co - just went gold in the US. The release date is slated for December 5 2005, and should fit perfect under the tree:
QUOTE Hammer & Sickle is a tactical RPG set in the spring of 1949. In the game, the player will assume the role of a top Soviet spy on clandestine duty in the British-American controlled sector of Germany during the early years of the budding Cold War. In a world where no one is quite who they appear to be, the player is trapped in a hellish plot that could trigger a third world war, this time between the United States and Soviet Union and their respective nuclear arsenals. Gamers will have to navigate a web of intrigue and make decisions that could determine the fate of the world. The Europeans have to wait a little longer, looking at a quarter 1 2006 release. You can find the press release at Blue's News. »
