"Well, boys and girls, you'd better be ready for it, because here it is." Lieutenant Jonathan "Shadow" Goorit eyed his troops, Alpha Squad, with practiced efficiency. They had been his team for months now, and they had done well. "Lieutenant Brewster's boys found some trouble on their UFO recovery." Corporal Andy "Death" Necro, perhaps the team's most experienced soldier, made a face. "Lieutenant, why are we always bailing everyone out?" Necro had been there almost since the beginning - when humanity had taken its first step into Ascidian space - and had seen combat on countless planets. "Can it, Andy." That was Sergeant Atzel "Malarky" Evander. An accomplished pilot and ground operative, she was Alpha Squad's leading sergeant. "We're not here to complain, we're here to do our jobs, got it? We both know why we're here." "We're the best of the best. We get called in when things get ugly, and they usually get ugly only when we're not around. After all," said Shadow with a grin, "if we had been there in the first place, it wouldn't have gotten ugly at all." Shadow watched as these and other team members nodded at each other. Morale was good, things were looking sharp. "Ok, Brewster and Beta Squad ended up chewing off part of a battleship, but then the Aliens have barricaded themselves in. Looks like it's Mutons mostly, mixed in with some Sectoids." Corporal Britt "Adept" Cabeza nodded at that. The team's psionisist was also quite experienced, having seen a number of operations as an X-Com trooper. It was his first campaign in the top-secret Ascidian Operations Theatre though, but he had acquitted himself well so far. "Questions?" As always, the team was professional; they knew what they had to do. "Good. We're touching down soon... Time to get the killing faces on." The ramp swung open, and both Andy and Private Diana "Wildcat" Talcor jumped out of the craft. Almost instantly, the hammering of the autocannons could be heard. With satisfaction, Shadow watched as the rest of the team deployed. The enemy didn't have a chance. |
X-Com, as always, is at the forefront of repelling any incursion by Alien forces, and it is no different in the Ascidian Operations Theatre. While Humans were first refugees in the area, almost completely dependent on the Ascidians for survival, they grew into one of the strongest weapons in the Ascidian arsenal. No mission was too tough for the heroes that were at one time thought lost and now secretly hailed for their critical contribution to Earth's first Alliance. With the original Cydonia Expedition returned to Earth, X-Com decided to uphold the Alliance formed by Commander Richter Weindhoven. In an effort to strengthen the growing friendship and keep the Aliens off-balance, X-Com dedicated a great number of personnel to re-establish a Human presence in Ascidian territory. Serving as both a base for diplomatic relations and military support, X-Com's base at Nova Alpha Omega is the most remote outpost available. X-Com troops and support personnel assigned to NAO are mostly for the purposes of garrison, but only the best are assigned to X-Com Hazard Operations. They are the sharp end of the stick for Earth's forces in the Ascidian Operations Theatre. Undertaking both independent and support mission, they are skilled marksmen and soldiers; a position in Hazard Operations is an extreme privilege. If only the best are in Hazard Operations, the cream of the crop is known is the first squad. This foremost of operations teams in Hazard Operations is comprised of the toughest and most experienced fighters in the Ascidian Operations Theatre. No mission is too difficult for these fighters, no enemy too strong. When the impossible needs to be done and done quickly, X-Com officers look to only one place: Alpha Squad. |
