Of Fiery Contours

by on 17th Sep 2013

Easterly winds blow, and heatedly so. Thus is history writ anew in Eugen Systems' upcoming WarGame: Red Dragon, the third instalment of the series, where the theater of operations is the Far East and the Cold War warms up, taking a very different turn.

The action will take place in Asia, more especially centered around the Korean Peninsula. The timeframe will be extended to 1975-1991.

Five new factions will be in play: The People's Republic of China, South Korea, the Country of the Calm Morning, North Korea, the Country of Unicorn and Beloved Leader, Japan, the Country of the Rising Sun and Australia & New Zealand gathered under the common flag of the ANZAC (Australia & New Zealand Army Corps).

Over a dozen dynamic solo engagements are anticipated, of varied lengths and difficulty with plenty of diversity and much belligerence amongst the contenders guaranteed, new units showing up in the form of ground vehicles with amphibious capabilities, naval forces, helicopters like the Black Hawk and more, adding up to something like 1200 units featured in all.

Information is not exactly abundant as of yet but with release tentatively slated for early next year further updates are surely inbound.

Israel is playable as a stand-alone nation, bringing a wide array of weapons and vehicles that make Tzahal able to stand against any of the most-played decks. In addition to the legendary Merkava tank family, one of many of Israel’s indigenous designs, the army also features heavily modified import units. These include British Centurion, American M60s, French Mirages III & V, as well as Soviet T-55 and PT-76 - salvaged from previous wars.

State-of-the-art weaponry connoisseurs will enjoy the Makmat, a huge self-propelled heavy 160mm mortar mounted on a World War 2 Sherman tank; the monstrous Multiple Launch Rocket System MAR-290 is on Centurion chassis; or the Sholef, proudly mounting a Finnish gun on a heavily armored Merkava chassis.

Truly versatile, Tzahal leans on its complete infantry roster and effective anti-tank guided missile designs to scout and deal damage from long range. They are able to strike with extreme precision, thanks to the Spike, MAPATS and LAHAT units as well as the renowned Nimrod missile. Tzahal also makes use of aircrafts, such as the Lahatut and Tzefa helicopters, to support their ground assaults.

The only slight problem with that logic, SV, is that by then whatever humans are still left will be too busy being hunted down by Skynet itself to even dream of playing silly games. :D
