  1. Cool. I had read about the OpenXcom project but I didn't know it was already so close to completion. I think I'll try to hold off on a replay until it is out.
  2. Finally managed to capture a live commander and get the Cydonia mission unlocked. I hadn't read anything about it and had little idea what to expect. Working myself into the base I already got few of my squad slaughtered, and infiltrating it I made more and more mistakes and kept getting guys killed. I was playing the whole game ironman mode, no reloading. I actually had no idea what would happen if I'd fail it, if I'd get another chance to send another squad there or if it was really "Cydonia or Bust" in the most literal sense. So anyway I had killed a ton of ethereals but still my troops kept getting mind-controlled and slowly my they had dwindled down to just two, both getting mind-controlled every other turn as I was aimlessly wandering around in the base trying to find out what I should do. Then one of them saw a long hallway and started to walk along it towards the only unexplored regions of the map. The other guy got slaughtered. I had basically given up all hope and just wanted to see what was at the end of the hallway and at the back of my mind I was hoping I'd be able to send another squad to Cydonia since I didn't plan on reloading and I had spent probably upwards of 50 hours in this game. I was walking the hallway along and the guy kept panicking, I had to pick up his weapon every other turn but slowly and surely I was making progress and arrived to the end seeing two elevators. I took the elevator up and now I saw I was at the heart of it. The room was empty aside from the pulsating eye thing at the other end. Again I had no idea what it was exactly I was supposed to do. So I did the only thing I could think of, took few steps towards the middle of the room and with my last TUs sprayed at the glaring eye with my heavy plasma. Few chunks of it flew off and when I ended the turn and BOOM, I had won the game. What a great feeling. Had to just sit there for a few minutes letting it all sink in. Only later reading the wiki I found out I'd have had replay the entire damn game if I hadn't gotten so lucky to find the eye with my last guy. Thanks for all the answers in the thread guys! Such a great game.
  3. That's nteresting. Pretty serious bug, especially regarding to the morale loss. Had no idea about that. Someday there will finally be a bug- and crash-free way to enjoy this game. Maybe for the 25th anniversary.
  4. Yeah it was, that's it. Both times. It only triggers if it's mind-controlled that exact moment you stun it? I can mind-control it, throw the gun away and stun it next turn?
  5. I'll try that. Starting to get pretty frustrating, really want to just get the endgame done with. Edit: Read the other thread I posted this in. Supposedly the alien being under mind control when it gets stunned triggers this. Explains a lot.
  6. I'm at the endgame trying to capture a live commander to get the last research bits to finish the game. Two times I have stunned a Floater commander to unconsciousness with a Small Launcher, cleared the rest of the mission, yet there is nothing on "Live aliens captured". Is this a bug? I made double sure they were not dead, just unconscious. I have previously captured live aliens in this game. Also the Containment facilities are not full (and even if they were it'd still say live aliens captured I guess). The craft I am using is an Avenger.
  7. I'll just post this here: I'm at the endgame trying to capture a live commander to get the last research bits to finish the game. Two times I have stunned a Floater commander to unconsciousness with a Small Launcher, cleared the rest of the mission, yet there is nothing on "Live aliens captured". Is this a bug? I made double sure they were not dead, just unconscious.
  8. I'll try this thanks. Now that I've thought more about it I think it's an issue with the game engine and my reflexes more than anything. It's not like the aliens move around amazingly fast in my game, it's just that when one just ever so slightly peeks out and back in the dark again it's only a split second and I hope it'd pause for a second so I could take a better look at where this is actually happening. I have terrible short term memory.
  9. Is there any way to make the alien turns go slower? I have alien movement speed at minimum and applied the animation speed fix in the .ini but they still zoom past so fast.
  10. I installed the combo fix pack and still walking through my Avenger walls. Oh well.
  11. Okay, I get it now. It's just like long-term TUs. I understood it's meant to reflect exhausting on a longer term interval I just thought there was some more complex formula behind it, I was worried it would affect the soldier's accuracy etc. I don't think I ever had it hit zero since I move around so slowly and carefully.
  12. I've read that article on Energy and I understand the formula behind its depletion. I just don't (still) understand what effect the value actually has. How is the soldier penalized for its energy dipping low? thanks, I downloaded the combo pack. Let's see.
  13. I don't know what happened in my case but the issue has since just vanished and I've been able to see all Chrysallids completely normally. Thanks for your offer though Tycho. Is the fact you can walk through the walls of Avengers and Lightnings walls' while deploying a feature or a bug? Also off-topic but what exactly does Stamina/Energy do?
  14. I don't see it at all, ever. The file you're talking about is Chrys.pck? I'll try to redownload it from Steam.
  15. I just ran into Chrysalids for the first time and they were invisible to me. The soldiers could see them but the sprite wasn't displaying to me. At first I actually thought it was a feature. Anyone know a quick fix?
