  3. Well you didn't lost anything. It was cancelled due to lack of interest . Meanwhile I implemented new stuff, like the Flying suit and made the map look a bit better. I'm working on the Harvester UFO right now. I will probably make 2-3 new maps then start to work on something else. Either on the strategy phase or on the interception phase. I hope there will be players other than me, who actually plays this mod in the future.

I estimate around april. After that the new stuff will be introduced step by step.
  9. It will be done this time around. I went into the Source SDK and recycled some old stuff. It looks promising. At this moment only 2 of us working on the LastHope2. Same features with nicer surrounding and better FPS. A public deathmatch version will be released this year after all old stuff is converted into HL2. Some help would be nice because turning the HL1 stuff into HL2 is simple but tedious work. Deep knowledge is not required. It is about retexturing the walls, recalibrating the doors, replacing the old entities with the new versions, converting old mdl into new mdl by recompiling it. Not exactly a creative work. I estimate that around 200 work hours are needed to for the conversion. A good animator would be good too to redo the animation I did before. They just don't cut it in 2006 in HL2 I think. You don't need to know HL2 (it would not hurt thou) only 3DStudio, Maya or some other specific program.

Get it and a server side patch from here: http://mods.moddb.com/1000 There are plenty of bugs and it is faar from finished, but you can take a walk in an authentic UFO world . BTW it won't work in single player. Only in multiplay. Also the site is still accessible to some extent here http://lasthopemod.moddb.com.

  14. Since human weapons sux hard in this game (even the heavy gauss is a popgun compared to the sonic pistol) you need to organize sniper and recon units. I usually use 3-4 sharpshooters for that. They stand next to the Dropship and wait. If the recon units find an alien then I let the snipers take it down. Beware of the alien grenades. It seems they figured how to use them, and tend to thorw quite frequently with lethal effect. Phosphorus bolts rock! They light the dark places! Also if you fire some into an alien craft then you can set the camper aliens on fire and see them run around also the precious alien artifacts would be spared. However sometime it just doesn't ignite Every month starts with either a ship assault or a MC controll center assault. The ship assault is extremely boring where you need to wipe all 3 decks with the same equipment you brought in. Doesn't worth the time, effort and lives of soldiers. The MC controll assault is not much better. Consider it as a smaller base assault. If you just let them slip then you loose like 500 points in the month. You can make up for this in standrad missions later. Terror sites are also a pain mainly because heavy weps doesn't work. Using the Choelcatns as a movable cover LOL. I wonder what did they do with the trusty Laser Rifles and flying suits. Don't even try to assault a base without proper MC skills. I made record short engagements with negative results. Build defensive sections, cos if the aliens find one of your base then they will keep attacking it on a regular basis. It is kinda annoying after a while. LOL thing that you can't intercept flying subs. I wonder what did they do with the good old Interceptors. Thermic lance is ESSENTIAL against Lobsterman. Without that you simply don't have a chance. Once I made one to panic and it dropped all of its weapons. Like 8 of my guys in flying ion armour armed with Gauss rifle encircled him and started to recation shoot at it. It took like 5 rounds and all of them used 2 clips just to wear the lobsterman down in point blank range LOL.
  15. Forgot to mention, you may encounter other slave races in space and later on on ground as an arch enemy. Actually Combat Mission is a decent engine with good modding capability. Its source is open and modelling there is not too hard. It is 110% LINEAR thou. No randomness or multiple ending. Also fo fisrt person flight. Now how about a fictional Ethereal and sectoid history: Sectoids were an expansionist race with mild psy capabilities. They discovered space flight quite early and went out to build a galactic empire. They wanted to colonize Earth but their ship malfunctioned. It didn't came out of the cryogenic state. Without controll it fell into the ocean. An automated emergecy signal was broadcasted just before it went down and some escape pods were destined to Mars. The sectoids who landed on Mars built a self-containing base but they lacked faster-than-light transmitters. Since they were extremely few, they just died of. Luckily for Earth the distress signal was never investigate since Sectoids came under attack by an unknown alien force. Sectoids held back for a while, but finally they lost the war and all of their planets became unhabitable. Few exiles left the homeworld with sublight speed crafts. Cryo chambers were powered by vast quantities of elerium which was a very common element on their planets. Some of the ships were hunted down by the aliens, but one was discovered by the Ethereal race about 2000 years ago. It was barely functioning. Most of the sectoid exiles were dead and all the computers lost their data. The ethereals were friendly, peace loving race with very strong psy capabilities. They valued the internal knowledge and mental perfection and showed little interest in space exploration. In exchange for the hospitality the sectoids shared tem with the little knowledge they managed to save. Like elerium powered space travell, some star charts, and basic saucer designs. The ethereals later fell in love with space travell since they could explore strange new worlds thus aquire new knowledge. They created a few outposts and colonized some un-inhabitant worlds, but they had evaded first contact. They liked to just "sit back and watch" what was happenning on other worlds. Suddenly everything changed when an alien space faring race showed up and started to methodically destroy their worlds. With sectoid help they stopped the the first incursions. Using their superior brains, they maganed to create a fleets that matched the attacker fleets. 1000 years ago the war became a bloody stalemate. Both sides suffered heavy losses and it seemd that none of them posess significant advantage over the other. The sectoids were eager to fight back the aliens but their popilation was low. So the ethereals started to create clone warriors and also they stared to breed foot troops from non-sentient species they encountered before, like the Mutons and the Snakemans who were prime predators on their home planets. After 1000 years of constant war without any significant result the Ethereals and the sectoids became burned-out completely war-like races. They didn't care about mental perfectionism any more and didn't care about other races inferior to them. The HOLLY WAR was everything. Since the war consumed extreme resources they strip mined entire star systems. They didn't enter the Solar system thou, since long range sensors didn't notice any sign of strategic material (like elerium). So Solar system had no value whatsoever. Then in 1990 a patrol detected the disterss signal. They sent a recon force. It detected the abadoned mars base, and the organic rich enviroment on Earth with a primitive sentient species. A standard harvesting fleet was dispatched as it was though to be an easy mission like dozens before. Hovewer they underestimated the resistance. Since they went on the defense they just lacked the Dreadnoughs to swarm the Earth and finnish the Humans off. The mission failed but they had more important things to attend to since the war started to turn against them. (which kinda happened once in a while) So they left the Solar system for good. In 2060 they encountered Humans again, but now they were harassing their supply lines and capturing planets in their own backyard. They couldn't fight a 2 front war. They decided to destroy mankind once and for all. But the war turned worse since the material supply started to choke up thanks to the X-COM raids. The ethereals got themselfs between the anvill and the hammer. The ethereal war machine completely broke down. The attacking aliens gained more space and finally they reached the Ethereal homeworld and bombed them back to their stone age, thou they didn't invade. The Ehtereal-Sectoid empire was not a dominant space faring race any more. They turned all that left of their fleet against X-COM in an attempt to take a little revenge. But even that campaing failed since X-COM posessed more advanced weaponry than the Ethereals themselves (reverse engineered tech). This is where the game starts.
