  1. Recently I got hold of the Steam version of X-COM UFO Defense. After getting both XcomUtil v9.7 and UFO Extender v1.28.3 to work with the help of this topic, I'm now wondering whether it'd be possible to completely do away with UFO Extender in favor of DOSBox (or DFend) because of its incredible advinterp2x scaler that makes the game look really good, even in full screen on high resolutions. UFO Extender is a good tool but fails miserably when it comes to making graphics a bit more bearable. Apart from the original pixelart the only other option is HQ4x which causes a horrible and blurry image. And is not compatible with DOSBox. But at least supports PSX music. There is also an annoying bug in the program which prevents me from exiting the game. I need to kill the process with the Task Manager, otherwise it starts an infinite loop and force-loads the executable over and over again XcomUtil on the other hand is almost as good as UFO Extender when it comes to fixes and tweaks (actually, most features of these two mods overlap), and is compatible with DOSBox. The biggest problem I'd have with this setup (DOSBox + XcomUtil) is the lack of support for the awesome PSX music which adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. Strife's UFO Voices Patch and AbraM's mp3 patch only work with the Windows version of the game since both require 'UFO Defense.exe' to be run and DOSBox can't handle that. So far I haven't found one, but is there a mod that lets me use the PSX version's music (either straight from a CD or mp3 files from a folder) with XcomUtil and DOSBox?
