  1. Oh yeah, i read about your "I am legend" idea, good luck with that . And you are so right about characters you like dying. I was just starting to like a guy i had named "Noob" (for coming on 4 missions, experiencing combat and still being the only surviving team member still at rookie), although his death was far more heroic, getting in the way of two shots meant for the captain. He was the only death that mission D:
  2. once, when i was playing, i had a guy survive 3 shots from a heavy plasma, only recieving 2 fatal wounds and losing less than half health. The soldier survived the encounter and because i was so impressed, i named him "Man of Steel" (He happened to be russian, you see). So i was wondering, do you also give soldiers cool nicknames and/or callsigns?
  3. As regards to terror mishes, you COULD just ignore them, or you COULD just hope your worst men make a decent dent in enemy forces, but a good thing to do is turn up and abort straight away if you are very inconfident with terror mishes. The monthly points penalty for not turning up to a terror mish is somewhere in the region of -1000, but turn up and abort, and you only get points deducted for the ammount of civilians onmap, which rarely ammounts to more than 500 points. If you want to actually do missions though, NEVER at night and use any heavy weapon platform to scout just ahead of your men so they dont get owned by reaction fire. People say things like "Save civillians at all costs". this is not a priority, the priorities are to complete the mission with as few x-com casualties as possible and come out with a positive score, for which over-zealous protection of civilians is not strictly necessary.
  4. hmm, what makes it better than the original?
  5. Im not going to explore that site. My antivirus says its unsafe. Also the rest of the household will kill me if the computer messes up on my watch. Also: That is an awsome avatar, Fullauto
  6. ok, thanks again for all your helpful advice. I downloaded it from steam about an hour ago and have been playing. Bomb bloke, your sure were right about those garish graphics :O i have to rest my eyes from time to time. Other than that, I think its brilliant. Not as good as EU though, but a nice change. (Underwater DOES work ). I have encountered something odd though. My gauss rifles wont take gauss rifle clips :<. I havent researched Gauss pistol clips though, could that have something to do with it?
  7. Wow, whats special about the CE that would make it so expensive? is the game any different or is it more of a kudos thing?
  8. I really like Paolo13's entry, very cool. of course, woodland walker's is the most striking with it's gore. Overall very good entrys there.
  9. My worst mission ever was my first terror mission. Note: this is before i realised the magic of HWP . i send a man down the skyranger ramp and he is imediately downed by a plasma blast. The next two suffer the same fate. Eventually, i manage to kill the floater responisible but i am already down to just 5 of 10 men. A grenade comes out of no-where killing the four men outside the craft. my final guy, who i left to take care of the skyranger panics, dropping his gun and running straight out into the enemy killzone. Game over. I lost every guy within a 2 square radius of the skyranger. what a farce, eh? A close second was the time that my frontman got mind controlled. He turned around and autofired AC-HE rounds into the transport, killing himself and four others. Which leads me to a question that might possibly not belong here, so for that im sorry: How do i see how much psi resistance my guys have? also: Moral of the story: NEVER rely on a rookie.
  10. thanks for your advice, the underwater setting was always a bit of a turnoff for me, but im willing to give it a try. Higher difficulty im not too bothered with. I reckon i will actually give it a shot - its only about
  11. The wierdest thing i had was a soldier (in power armour, granted) who survived being shot 6 times in the same alien turn without one shot getting through the armour. That has never happened since (even in power armour, my guys usually die after 1-2 shots in a row)
  12. I recently aquired a copy of Enemy uknown and I am enjoying it greatly. Is TFTD as good as or better?
