  1. Thanks! Hahahha, I'm an intrepid native! Watching that transmission, I think the Reticulans were having a rave on their ship. No wonder they crashed!
  2. This is where I am too, I brought down the wargot mothership last night. I saved the game and then took out the last Cultist base but they respawned again (the one base they have now used to be mine.) I've reloaded back to that last save, and now all I get are Starghost and Cultist incursions that are easily put down. I have no research to do and no land to conquer, how long do I have to wait for something to happen? btw, one of the missions on the Wargot ship had Starghosts fighting the Wargots, is that explained later on?
  3. So theoretically if someone installed the cracked Aftershock executable because they just recently got the game and had heard all these horror stories about damaged *hardware* from some wack malware being passed off as copy-protection by Russian banditos, and then they ran the Starforce removal tool just to be safe, the machine requests a reboot and falls into a cycle of resetting after trying to start windows... even when trying safe mode and after an in-place repair installation to the same Windows folder. Where would such a person find help determining what causing the failure? This theoretical incident can't be unique. hi all!

    Xcom Editors

XCOMUTIL might help with this. It splits the .EXE back into two files for the Collectors Edition of X-COM and TFTD for its own purposes. Back up your game folder and see if it will fix xc2me2 as a side effect.
  5. .... ok this is very strange. The file was not read-only, but niether was it being updated. I opened it in Notepad and wrote "hi" in it, saved it. Ran setup again, it still didn't update (yet did comment that the soundcard was not compatable with the current config.) So I renamed the file and re-ran setup. Now when I start the game the intro movie works. And the sound. .... but wtf was wrong with that file?
  6. The display isn't what I'd call intuitive. Anyone know how to translate those numbers into something useful? I don't see how two relationships, A -> B and B -> A, needs four numbers to describe them. Is this sorta like how agent stats are stored, an initial value and a changed value? Which is which? bah!

    Xcom Editors

XCOMUtil v9.6 can do some stuff with the ships, there're layouts of ship data in the xcomutil.cfg file, but I don't mess with that much so dunno what it does. Zombie, you should take a look at this editor though, I won't play either of the first two games without it. Its not as much an editor as it is an organizational & logistics tool to be used as you play. I've been using it since .... I can't remember. A really early version.
  8. I'll give that a shot. I think I tried it when I was first setting it up. One thing I'm noticing when I start the setup program (to configure the sound), its not remembering what I last set it at. Does anyone know where the sound config is saved, could you tell me the file name and location and contents? I wonder if for some reason mine isn't being saved. Note that this machine (still) doesn't have DirectX installed on it, think that might matter? Its supposed to be a DOS game so I didn't bother, don't have alot of disk space left on this massive 200 meg drive.
  9. Thank you thank you! Hey, I remember putting together a face replacement set for Apoc, I wonder where I put it.
  10. Bah I hate fileplanet, can it be hosted here? Bomb? Pete?
  11. I hate trying to deal with troop organization. The only way to interact with them is through one long array that you cannot sort or mask at all. Like, I'm in base X, why do I need to see soldiers from Y and Z in the list at all? My kingdom for a basic equiptment template! What I'd do to have some of the XCOMUTIL functions available in APOCUTIL, like renaming soldiers w/ indicators of their stats, re-equipping them after combat, sorting according to rank and such, etc. etc.
  12. The setup program sees the card fine, detects its resources correctly, and plays the test siren nice and loud.
  13. Anyone know of a base editor that will let you re-arrange your base layout? I hate starting bases designed by morons/random.

    Megapol Mod

Heh this sounds neat. Have you been taking notes on what you've had to change? It'd be neat if you could make a mod that would let you pick any company and it does the switching for you. If I were to play Megapol though, I'd want my units to be wearing the blue!
  15. I keep this old Dell Optiplex XL 575 around to play X-COM on. Just finished a "superhuman" game (and I only use lasers, are you sure the difficulty bug was fixed??) and decided to skip to Apoc instead of TFTD. Installed it from the Collectors Edition CD assuming thats the most up-to-date version but I could get my original CD if needed. The intro won't play at all but can start a game, go into combat, etc etc so I think all is well, I just have no sound. I've got a genuine SB 16 in here too, and the sound test passes fine. I don't quite understand why there's no sound in game. Any suggestions? btw, hi all! I've not been around since the days of Aftermath, and not even much then. I don't have Aftershock yet 'cause my gaming machine died in November. Getting a new mb next week so I'll hopefully be catching up soon.
