  1. Well, after I have evolved my core of elite soldiers, then I like to hire alot of rookies and send out teams of rookies to investigate crashsites, under the command of an officer and a sergeant both in the best armour available. I find that if the rookies are just treated the same as everyone else then they usually die before they can improve very much as all the others bag the kills. When they are in rookie squads they can improve at the same rate as the squad. The officers are just there to ensure things don't get out of control. Of course, I wouldn't take rookies along to dangerous missions as that would be too much for them. And eventually some of the rookies become pretty good soldiers, which really does make you glow when they go on to supervise other rookies on other bases :*)
  2. No, no, no, you don't need to kill off your weakheaded soldiers, you just form them into a separate B-team, and send them off on lobsterman missions where there is never any mind control. Course they won't be able to come to the important missions, as there is always mind controlling goin on in those. Honestly, show a little compassion!
  3. I remember about a year ago killing 3 aliens with a single autoshot, they were in one of those long corridor of a ship so all that was needed was to shoot straight, but it made me laugh anywayz! I also had an interesting dilema at a easter island terror site recently, with an alien tightly bunkered in one of those hills with the spiral corridors inside. His reaction shooting was unbeatable, I used several grenades already and they just weren't reaching him so in the end I chose to burn the corridors with phorophor shells, and then blow the hill up with explosive shells. It worked quite well, I can imagine the gillman inside running around in the fire which would have been amusing to see, although the rookie firing the shells unfortunately caught on fire and died later on in the mission.
  4. WAAAAAAAAAH! This must be the 3rd separate occasion that I have ruined a save game! Is it my fault that I like researching aliens?! The dead deep one got me the aquaplastics... Surely it is logical to research the live one next... WRONG! Ohwell, gives me a chance to start all over again! It's a good thing I have too much free time.
