  1. So if I wanted true dos mode, would I have to install Dos 6.22, then 98, then XP, or do I just need 98?
  2. That's odd, I'm going to re-install X-COM, to see if I can get this to work again.
  3. There are programs on XP that will allow you to run Win98 within XP, without dual booting the system. Rather expensive, and I have never tried it, but they are out there. I think it would be cheaper to buy an old computer off of somebody, though. Got my Pentium 150 w/48 megs of RAM for $20 at a garage sale.
  4. I run a GeForce 4, which is rather similar to the 2 in respects to running X-COM. You probably need the graphics fix, which is under the misc. section at http://f0dder.has.it This is if you are running the Collector's Edition, like I am. And no, Apocalypse does not like my computer, either. It will run sometimes.
  5. Have you tried to use the fix contained in XCOMUTIL? I was running a Voodoo 3 16 MB card on my computer, and the game ran fine. Got my GeForce 4, and the graphics were garbled. The fix itself, if you don't want to use XCOMUTIL, can be found here, under Misc. It may fix your problem for you, as there is apparently a DirectDraw error that Mythos did not fix when they re-released the game.
  6. What graphics card are you using, and this is the Windows version, correct?
  7. I don't think the red eyes came from the cryo-stasis, I'm sure they've stolen Clear Eyes on one of their raids. No, that's caused by salt water in their eyes. Nasty stuff. What I want to know is why the Hallucinoid's tentacles were clipped. Did it slap it's masters too much?

    help!

Have faith in Sid, Kemuri. He has yet to let me down on something that he had influence over. I don't know of any really bad games that he has made, or when he hadn't responded to the wishes of his potential customers. Firaxis is a very good company for listening to complaints or requests. Civilization III's game mechanics are drastically different from when it was released, due to the number of patches that the changes requested of the game required. Besides, Firaxis gets the royalties from the bargain bin sales, whether it costs $1.00 or $20.00. Ace, for your problem, have you looked for a copy of the Collector's Edition of X-COM? It comes with UFO, TFTD, and Apocalypse. Also comes with a nasty graphics bug on the first two, but there is a fix out for that by f0dder. Here's an Amazon link for it, a little pricey though. X-COM at Amazon.com Here's an eBay auction, better act quick though. eBay Auction
  9. I've leveled the access lift with various explosives, and I've never had it become destroyed. That would not be a good thing, especially during the early game. "Sir, we have repelled the alien assault, sir" "What means were used to repel them, Squaddie?" "Sir, the intruders were cleared from the hangars with minimal damage, then we destroyed the access lift, in order to prevent further incursion, sir" "Oh, that's good. Now, how do you propose WE exit the base?" ". . . ." "That's what I thought."
  10. You could always attempt to liven up the destruction attempts, by only using ground vehicles. Now THAT would get interesting. Imagine your platoons of Stormdogs and Griffon AFVs tearing around the city, duking it out with hoverbikes, hovercars, Hawk Air Warriors, etc. Only problem is that if the road under said vehicle is destroyed, so goes your squad.
  11. You can always stun the multiworm, too. Rather pointless after you have researched a live one, but still . . . .
  12. Thanks NKF! Now I don't have to clear out the upper levels of those supply ships anymore. Stupid Sectoids and their reaction fire . . . .
  13. How do you raid a base just to get Elerium? I thought that the power sources would blow up if you shot them, to get at the purple elerium dot.
  14. Make the human weapons worse? Could you imagine the M4K worse than it already is? Agent: A Brainsucker! *empties M4K magazine at alien* Brainsucker is hit by one round, does 1 damage Brainsucker: *jumps on agent's head, sucks brains* Agent: *turns around, reloads M4K, empties magazine at nearest agent* Agent is hit by two rounds, no damage occurs I think I will stick with those plasma pistols I found from the cult.
  15. My personal favorite mistake with grenades had me trying to pass a live proximity grenade to someone. Don't let those fall short, either.
