  1. actually, if your ubersoldier's a melee nut, they can mow down whatever they -want- especially once you pick up a lightsaber. not that it's all that hard to play catchup with the levelling curve. i just had a trio of human bratlings finish highschool and join the army apparrently (wtf?). Rita's daughter and Pauline's twins showed up at level 1 for the three of them, and while i've ignored the twins, slapping a katana and advanced battle armor on Rita and having her clump around executing stunned and unconscious enemies pulled her up to the point where she could run and gun with the rest of the squad in three missions. gimpies take a little bit of creative babying, but not much. (for overall game stats, i'm owning a bit over 2/3 the world, have the rets corralled in two territories out of worry that i might need somethign from 'em, ally with expedition, and i'm in process of driving a demilitarized zone between the beastmen and the martians, because if anyone's committing genocide on this planet, it's gonna be me!)
  2. nope, that's why i was so eager to come ask for help here, the event log goes straight from the "new item produced" that happened before the mission notification, to the "new installation constructed" that came after (and there's no mission in any of the territories surrounding the one where the installation was built, as it was a terriforming station deep inside my territory) i'm thinking it might be a compounding of whatever glitch led the Expedition ot arrive and make peace immediately, especially since i got lucky and they landed on a no-use territory that i'd ignored, but taken everything surrounding it save one. i can picture new factions being unhappy about spawning landlocked.
  3. gotcha, but normally when i've had those missions come up, i've had a button available, plus i've been unable to find any defense missions in my territory.
  4. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/index...l=radar+mission is where i saw radar missions mentioned, and didn't know what they meant. as far as the beastmen gates, i've usually just had them shjow up as regular missions, with the 'go to event' button aavailable, this mission didn't have that in it's announcement. it's the 'surprise attack' thing that's got me mostly confused, it doesn't sound liek the sort of thing one owudl want to let slide.
  5. I"m not very far into the game, i've had the Expedition just arrive (and ironically, enver fire a shot, i didn't get to even see the map between them arriving and communication opening. since i was already at war with the Reticulans they jsut went straight to peace), and after a couple more missions, i had Mr. "Commander in chief" pop up with "We can make a surprise attack on the enemy" as his voice statement, and the text of "there is a special mission on the map", but no button in the tab like normal... and i can't find anythign to tell me what this means. has anyone else had this happen? is this one of the 'radar missions' i've seen mentioned in other threads? (if so, how do i use one of those?) thanks in advance.
  6. when i've been playing, i've found that any time i finish a mission with enemies unconscious but not dead, and i don't load the UFO so much i wouldn't have room for a bit more than one more corpse, it auto captures them. all i've had capture missions for are Beastman Alchemists, but i've 'interrogated' Soldier, Alchemist, Shaman, Captain, and a Reticulan Soldier. it could be a function of difficulty setting, i'm on Easy, because i'm lazy and my computer's crap.
  7. just wondering if anyone else encountered this. i was getting impatient with my factories, so decided to use some drones for my first space mission to bulk out ot a full squad rather than wait for the second hab-module to finish building. i deployed everyone for the first mission on the wargot mothership, won rather easily thanks to my John Woo cyborg. and then my drones were gone. they never got within the line of fire, so they can't have bene blown up, but they weren't in my list for my second, or third mission (haven't gone further than that just yet, i guess if they suddenly reappear i'll feel stupid)... okay, it's not all that big a deal, i brought enough 9mm AP for johnny-boy to depopulate an entire planet, and enough medkits to keep him alive long enough to do it, but it's still somewhat worrying... does anyone know what might've gone wrong?
  8. i've had a lot of fun with playing oddball diplomacy games in order to jump my tech tree early on. i was able to sweet-talk (bribe with type 3 resources) the humans into selling me someone with level 3 sniper training within the first six missions or so, and she's continued lovely cranial volume surveys right on through, one-shots nearly everythign i point her at.
  9. a lovely revelation add_item "Reticulan power cell" WILL work, when used during a mission to spawn one on the ground at the feet of currently selected friendly unit. i don't know if it will work to spawn energy ammo for later energy weapons, but i'd imagine it would be worth trying on the part of someone who's gotten to that part of the game ^_^ i'd never tried that way before because i hadn't spotted that in the mission cheats console list before. edit: insert blasphemous expletives to the organ of your choice's pleasure. ALL ammo summoning (except possibly grenades, which i guess woudl be equivalent either way?) is best done in mission, rather than at geoscape. it doesn't summon individual bullets there, it summons a maxed out single troop-portable unit of them (ie: the box of 50 bullets for 9x19mm) and they will happily auto-harvest on end of mission. found this out figuring i'd reload at the end, didn't bother to check after the first dozen or so hits of bullets, and found my mission was a net gain of 3600 shells ^_^
  10. ah, there was a space in the 'caliber' listing for thedesert eagle, i must've misread it in the item listing. thanks again. i'm sure there must be some way to summon the batteries, i mean, i can't imagine why there wouldn't be...
  11. i'm afraid i'm still -very- early in the game, my problem is i've run completely out of bullets while waiting on construction of my first ordinance factory. attempting to summon "Reticulan power cell" (i initially wondered if it might be that you can't summon reticulan gear because it's "unbuildable factory" as its construction listing, but i can summon the reticulan laser pistols/rifles fine) or "9x19 mm" to shoot with the desert eagle, because s'all i've got as yet. i don't want to break things too much, i just don't like how stingy they are with ammo, and want to get around that. but at the moment, all i can do is outfit everyone with lots and lots of knives to throw if iw ant projectiles. which seems bloody stupid.
  12. ack... the quotes ar eletting me summon weapons jsut fine... but for some reason i still can't summon ammo (which is the main thing i want it for -_-;; ) have you been able to get it to summon ammo, or jsut "proper" items?
  13. thanks especially for posting equipment.txt, i'd tried to extract that from gamedata.vfs myself, and it owuldn't do it. with luck, i can solve my ammo problem now ^_^ edit: son of a skull-humping zombie jesus... all it wanted was quote marks. sodding quote marks.
  14. it seems a bit odd, it's clear that if the syntax is off it throws you a reaction of '???' to say the game didn't understand what you wanted from it, but since there's a lookup command for mission-spawn parameters, one would think that (even thoguh it's not listed under '?') there's probably one for lookup of the item tables, too? does that make sense, or am i being an idiot?
