  1. it isn't. it's just a spot on the map - usually very close to a rock or object you can't move on - that if you move it one way it goes to another square and if you move it the other way you can't click on it, but I manage to move there once I get my mouse on the very area that alows you to move there. It might be because of the resolution I run the game in - 1024x768 i think.
  2. haha, me fourth. There is like 2 seconds where you have the opportunity to click on the hotlink button by the guy talking, but it goes too fast sometimes. I also hate how I don't get to see which resources I have developed and which ones I haven't, aside from clicking on every single tile. Also, maybe it's just me, but does anyone else have trouble moving people sometimes? When I want a sniper, for this example, to move to a verrrry specific spot there is only like 1/100 of a inch where my mouse can go where I can click on that tile to move him there. It is sooooo annoying. I seriously spent like 20+ seconds one time trying to click on one spot. Does anyone else have trouble with this?
  3. I keep my main lab at 4/4 at all times, and workshop rarely goes to 3/4. The main thing I do is only take the territories I need for resources and stuff. This frees up a lot of scientists/techs and enables me to get the proper training done asap while running decent efficiency in my labs/workshops. When I do decide I need territories I usually run with a 4/2/2 between my lab (or workshop)/training/trucks. When I don't have anything left to train I will either use the idle guys as extra soldiers or send them in the trucks.
  4. So, I recently figured out a way to get your scientists lots of XP doing missions. Have a reticulan use the psi weapon on stun damage and have your medic (scientist) heal your own guy over and over. Do not use other weapons because they will cause the bar to go black which means he will spend lots of time in the hospital after the mission. I am not sure if you get XP for healing the enemy, so I have not attempted it yet. Your scientists get XP for healing - the more damage you heal = more sci xp you get. It's going to take a about 10 minutes to get a lot of XP though. One game I did 16 heals for around 2k dmg (stun does approximately 80 dmg/hit) and I got around 280 XP, which is pretty decent for sci XP and it didn't take that long. If you turn some of the settings off (ie, pausing after your teammates are attacked because it will pause a lot if you are stunning your own guy) it will go much faster. Your reticulan soldier won't get any XP though if you stun your own guy because he is attacking a friendly. I am not that far in the game, but I am sure there are ways to get your techs XP too. It's best to do this on the missions where you have to kill all enemies; that way you can chose what guy you want to live rather than being stuck against a strong level enemy.
  5. *Warning* may spoil your game... =p Current game date around Jun 20. I have completed around 3-4 excavation site underground missions now and I just met the martians; I guess I should tech up so I can negotiate with them, huh? I am able to attack them, but I don't need another enemy right now. My hands are full with upgraded beastmen. The attacks are more often now, and the missions are a lot harder. The Chief Beastmen Soldiers seem to go for my alien soldiers like he beat his mother or something. I've had one alien soldier die in these missions, but no other casualities lately (besides drones). I should be upgrading my drones turrets/weapons pretty soon, but I have noticed that they arent that useful at this stage in the game so maybe I will stick with a regular non-robotic party. My other alien soldier is training for major psionic weapons right now so I will be able to use the mind controller soon (muahhahaha). I will be getting my fourth metal mine pretty soon, but because of the Beastmen attacks it was delayed a bit. This will allow me to produce the sniper rifle, advanced foundry, katana, and some other stuff...? heh. I have found knives to be pretty useful in a last resort situation and had an awesome mission where they came in use, which was very entertaining, so getting the katana will be sweet. I am specializing my scientists with their training (which is going well) and I am trying to focus on earth techs for now (that's where most of my scientists have training in) while queing in some more important techs along the way. The trading with the expedition is frickn' weak. When I was allied with the reticulans I was offered the upgraded suits for my aliens, but when I broke the treaty the aliens soldiers ran away with them. So now I am constantly trying to trade equipment with them to get an offer for it but I have yet to recieve it. I plan to wipe these guys out after I wipe out the reticulans, which should be soon because I only see about 3-4 reticulan territories left. Speaking of the reticulans, I successfully tookover their base (main base?). This supplied me with advanced information about their technology, but I have yet to go into depth with my scientists because I am simply not focusing there right now.
  6. I am not that far yet, so I still only have the basic stims. Yeah though, these do sound like they would help training new chars. Like some of my scientists/alien chars; they are sooooo slow compared to my other guys it is rediculous. I guess in certain situations though you could use the hypersteroids and it will up the damage your character will be able to take, right? Because I have a few that go down wayyyyy too easy.
  7. when I broke my treaty they left me, but when I me the expedition race I was given 3 new ones.
  8. I'm sorry if anyone read this that didn't already know =\. Thanks for modding the title though. "pick up martian drones"? I think you are giving me a tip to something, but I'm not sure. I've had two of these missions so far and I currently control 4 (maybe 3) excavation sites. The first one I'm pretty sure I killed everything there. I picked up the artifact and I also found a martian battery, (which I thought it was the artifact and ended up going back to the start saying, "wtf...? it wont finish the mission" heh). I'm guessing you need some certain techs before you are able to get martian drones. Unless what you mean by that is: pickup the killed drones body and disassemble it or whatever? Cool! languanges so you can communicate with them via diplomacy, right? Dang, I just spoiled my own game.
  9. So, recently I have been getting a few of the underground martian missions. Where you go and retrieve the special technology in the underground place. They are pretty easy considering it's only robots. Are these just like leveling missions or what? Because I don't find them that hard at all and there are so many guys to kill it is like free leveling and technology I guess. I have yet to research any of the stuff I have found though. I also find the martian batteries sometimes too. Must be good for drones later on or something?
  10. holy sh*t that image is sick. looks like some upgraded armor with a psi weapon. Has anyone come across rollers? How the f*** do you kill those? The only idea I have come up with is to use the warp gun, but do projectiles work better against them or what? I am using strictly lasers rifles and reticulan rocket launchers right now. The warp gun is pretty rediculous though; it is like a lvl up weapon. My guy did 3k dmg total one game and got like 800 exp hah. It's kinda lame so I stopped using it until I came across the rollers one battle and spent like 10 minutes running around in circles while my other guys shot it for 8 dmg each hit =\. I think I am going to start using more drones; I have one in my squad right now, but I think it would be a good idea to free up scientists (healers) that I use. I am about to manufacture the laser rifle for my drone and I will probably research the upgrade for the dual weapon turrets soon (which will be sick). I feel like I have gone a completely different tech path than you guys. I don't even have shotties/grenades/sniper rifles; most of my research has gone into armors, planetology, autopsy, and medicine. I am going through the beginning stages of autopsy and interrogation right now so hopefully this will yield some cool results with alien weapons and other things. P.S. This game has become an addiction.
  11. haha! that isnt a psi weapon; the weapon with the white head and purple body is. The psi can go through walls, but I have successfully gone through a few reticulan territories without getting mindcontroled at all. I think it is because I have the Major Leadership training on one of my vets. That increases resistance to psi attacks. BTW is that the reticulan base? it looks different than most of my missions on that mini map.
  12. I developed the heavy suits today and I have to say... I don't like them at all. You can't run or crouch or anything in them and that's my favorite part of the tactical game: setting up good positions against the enemy. I decided to switch back to the larger backpack suits and I just got the light armor upgrade (should have gotten it earlier =p). I seem to be lacking in the tech department. Battles are still mediocre though. I have 4 reticulan territories in site with the main base available for attack as well! I am going to have to write an update for that one when I decide to go for it. It won't be for awhile though because I am going to go after some more materials first.

    Stims

So I researched stimulants a while ago, but have yet to produce any because my prod team has been swamped with armors/weapons. I've got the roids and the other one for dexterity. If someone on here uses them could you explain what kind of things you use them for and why they are important? I just don't understand why you would need to sacrafice dex for str or vice-versa. It also says there are negative side effects; is this the loss of the dex over strength or are there other side effects too?
  14. hmm, im not sure how we could measure techs. The only way we could is by using a tech tree and comparing our latest techs researched. Since this is my first game I don't want to use a tech tree or anything for fun. You guys can if you want to though =)
  15. Hey, I just wanted to make a topic to see how far everyone is Go ahead and post your total missions and the date in your game. Then we can get a good comparison of where everyone is at. Who's the furthest!??!??! I need to check on my ingame date/missions real quick and then I will post back in a sec, thanks. Alright, I came back with a probably more than I need, but I will post it anyways. I found all the info under the overview tab. My stats are '53 Jun 09 (I'm guessing that's 2053) Active Missions 9 Successful Missions 24 Failed Missions 1 Territories Owned 18 Territories Discovered 36 Radar Stations 0 (yikes) Terraformation Stations 7 Terraformation Progress 6% I haven't researched radars yet =\. My scientists are doing a good job setting up the geosades (wtf are they called?). I can barely keep up.
