  1. You have to be very lucky with this approach. Sometimes the AI will really run for setting the bombs. The best bet is one good SMG and one grenadier/scout on the side where the etrance looks down the long side of the room. Here the smg should run to left side of column and on full auto either kill or at least cripple the bad guy that has his back to him. The grenadier needs to run to the right and will probably have only one throw on the bad guy. If you manage a critical (ideally legs), odds are great that he won't manage to arm the bomb. On the other side, 3 grenadiers are a lovely thing. One with medium nades should blast the big barrels and the enemy behind them (two throws should do), one with light nades should be able to throw at least one after the far guy. Another light grenadier could finish him off, or a sniper with leg/head critical. This way, you should kill 1-2 and incapacitate the other 2 within first round.
  2. Thanks for the info. Makes sense. Hope you don't mind being quoted in my guide. I've just updated it with all the recent knowledge and also The Snitch mission which I completely forgot previously.
  3. Here I hit a brick wall. Even when I killed the guard by the stairs with one silenced burst, I lost the stealth status. I don't know if this is difficulty-related, or a matter of timing. (Does any walking patrol "see" the guard get killed? Or another patrolling guard upstairs hear the silenced gun?) I must admit that I killed the bathroom guy first, but silently without getting spotted, so this shouldn't be a problem.
  4. Damn, I think that I got all the clues and still no mission in Poland. Can someone confirm that it is enough to get the Encrypted Message from Peenemunde, interrogate the VIP at Border and get Decyphering book from Valhalla mission? The message, when put into inventory, disappeared, accompanied by the "objective complete" sound. The decyphering book, however, just remains in inventory and nothing happens. I suspect that there is another requirement - interrogating the corrupt soviet official in the Stealth mission. I killed him on purpose to be allowed all 4 missions. Thinking about it, I might try to kill Smoke instead in The Godfather mission (that is, kill him before killing all other bad guys) to fail this mission instead. Also, I took Border from the Finnish side. Anyone done the same as me and still got the mission in Poland?
  5. There aren't many special missions that we're aware of (and even the random encounters are only of a few types): I will add all types of encounters as I get them reported. Special random encounters: Shade's prison in Switzerland (middle of map) (two scoped and two normal rifles - guards in towers) Bank robbery in Germany (bottom right corner) Something in Egypt (haven't gotten that one yet) Normal random encounters: UK - underground bunker (downed V1 rocket, small structure above, little joe arrows in bunker) UK - garage/repair facility - three buildings (basement garage connected with another building above ground - contained boobytrapped locker if I recall correctly) Germany - train depot (one variant has MG mounted on flattop wagon) (some rifles/smgs, extra unarmed engineers) Germany - generator facility (enclosed in wire fence, one variant has two motorcycles with sidecars, one with MG) (lots of enemies, several rifles) Germany - large two-wing house with park and fountain. Russia - small two-room hut with outhouse Russia - houses with barn Russia - road bridge (mostly pistols) Poland - factory with flatbed truck. Egypt - ruins with a cistern Egypt - barren rock valley
  6. Oops, fixed now... (forgot the bloody ~) What's your squad composition and equipment? Do you have enough landmines? (See the walkthrough - the link now works ) Yes, I'd be willing to proof-read your version... (Or, if you'd feel interested, we might merge the walkthroughs together...)
  7. Just finished second run of the game yesterday... I've thrown together a few quick hints/ideas at my page. Feel free to bomb me with comments, additions, alternatives. It's sort of "version 0.01" as I will be adding details when playing for 3rd time. If anyone would feel like cooperating on the walkthrough, I'm not against that. (Adding screenshots included.)
  8. I would suggest failing this mission intentionally anyway . (by killing the official instead of interrogating him) True, you don't earn money, but you get a ton of valuables and experience - and the other three missions in this set of four can be completed easily, so this is just a bonus.
  9. PWM-1 grenades cut it quite fine as do PKs with sniper guns. If you have two snipers and two good grenade throwers in your team, just stock up on PK sniper ammo (about 30 shots for each should do) and nothing else. The heavy grenades are plentiful throughout the level and you'll need about 20 of them for the ending . I've never tried panzerschrecks, because PK with sniper gun seems quite reliable at even very long distance.
  10. When you need to raise 100k to pay the informant, don't worry and sell everything you can . If you have at least two good grenade throwers (heavy grenade at least 6-7 squares away), you'll only need a couple of sniper rifles with ammo for the last level. At least, that was my case. With two snipers with "Always critical", you should be able to clear the whole outdoor level. (Having loads of light grenades can be helpful - send the grenadier above the bunker entrance . You'll find enough PWM-1 grenades in this level (and the underground follow up). A comfortable "minimum" configuration would be two PK with sniper guns, a repairing tool, two snipers with high-penetration rifles and probably some MG/SMG to stop rushing infantry.
  11. In my first run, I had three snipers, engineer, scout and soldier. Weapon loadout pretty boring. Snipers with whatever quick-firing sniper rifle that was available (anything that shoots for 18 or less AP is good) and any quick-firing pistol with JHP ammo for close range. Both engineer and soldier an MG and a rifle for long-range, lots of grenades. Scout a silenced SMG and lots of grenades. I never bothered with any bazookas/panzerfausts as they take up so much room. Fighting PKs with snipers (always critical) is easy. On the second run, I got Shade and recruited Viper and Fritz, for a total squad of 3 snipers, 2 soldiers and a scout. Fritz and Shade were about the only ones who carried grenades. Fritz had his MG42 from very start, Shade whatever silenced SMG I could get for him. Another soldier took whatever MG was available, sticking to DP once I got it. Viper with his superb shooting skill was a real killer - snapshots from ANY smg or assault rifle were really deadly. Again, no fancy heavy weapons, finishing the last level (assault variant) with the help of 3 PKs with snipers and all the PWM-1 grenades I could find in that level (Just enough). In either case, absolutely no melee weapons or throwing knives. I never bothered with stealth too much - I failed the only "sneaking" mission on purpose to play all four missions. (Similarly, I failed Snitch on purpose, sniping the informant into right hand to cause him to drop his silenced Sten - and then letting him escape).
  12. First of all, BEFORE the mission, you're TOLD to bring an engineer - so complaining that you can't finish the mission without an engineer is complaining that the game means what it says Second, it is possible just with pure firepower, but it requires luck and bravery. If you have the 1.1 patch, you should be able to defuse the landmines near the northern entrance, so you can actually storm the main room from both sides at once. On one side, you'll need to kill two enemies at a reasonably short distance (using anyone with good Burst and an SMG with JHP ammo should be enough. On the other side, it is best to bring in three guys that are able to throw grenades far . You can use one medium grenade to demolish the two left-most barrels and then follow with light frag grenades that should incapacitate the two guys behind the barrels. Also, using a stun-gun to headshot enemies is a possibility. Plaing it the first time (without Shade and without bank robbery), it WAS tough and I had to save and reload, but it was manageable. Since I had an engineer at the northern side, anyway, I did not have to hurry as I appreciated both the engineering experience and the two extra landmines - so I killed quickly the enemies on the other side only - but you could do both with some luck. If you get rich quick early, this mission is a breeze (Viper, Fritz, Shade are the important guys, two snipers and Ahmad for the rest of the squad).
