  1. Perhaps a small bug report for the demo: Mira has a male body, only male clothes work on her. Or is that intended? Some mobsters seem to get caught in routine loops during fight, i.e. they repeat the same action (movement to and fro) over and over again, until they run out of AP. The Militant soldiers in the last mission suddenly 'popped up' when I went looking for the last resistance - I guess they were using stealth. However, since you said they would try to storm the house I was wondering why they camped outside the main gate and on and behind the train after about 80% of the attackers have been killed. I like that mercenary commander uniform you made, and the Militants and Mobsters look really swell either. And you'll probably glad to know that the soundfiles work great in the German version - I hear stuff there I never heard in the game before. Where did you find those soundfiles? Perhaps you could visit the "Sentences" thread in the S2 Forum and give us a hint on how to extract them?
  2. That's interesting, since the German dubbing really is excellent. Indian, Slovakian, Japanese, Russian, everything sounds very convincing. I probably used one third of all available characters for my squads yet, and I never recognized two using the same voice. Just a few annoying translation mistakes - but that's more a H&S problem. Although in H&S you never know if it even made sense in the original Anyway, getting a hand on the soundfiles would rock. With all the whacky shit that's said in all three games, I can make several kick-ass sound profiles for Windows.
  3. Nope, sorry, no idea. Damn, I wish I had the English version of Silent Storm. Don't get me wrong, the German dubbing is excellent, making Unreal II look like a baby seal clubber compared to Jesus - but still, I bet the German soldiers were a lot more funnier in English But I'm interested in the soundfiles as well. My WinXP needs a new sound theme...
  4. Indeed, SS is a bad abreviation, they even hardly use it here for 'summer semester'. Anyway, it's great that you wrote another walkthrough, I think there can't be enough of them. At least 4 different ones would be nice, because there are a lot of ways to complete the missions in a tactical game and I found myself solving missions differently to those ways mentioned in the only S2 walkthrough I found. And if there wouldn't have been the boards I'd have missed out a lot of information, especially about S3. About Netiquette: Do as Slaughter said. He summed it up nicely. Just make sure you ask for permission, and then mention their name/ net ID and the name of their document in your walkthrough when you're green to use it. Concerning the info you got from public forums: Mention the "folks" from the boards by name if you can and wish, or not just stick to "folks". Mention the board name, though. Follow that, and nobody should have reason to complain about mindtheft in your walkthrough.
  5. I just finished the last mission... F*cking great job, Novik! While some parts/traits of the game are certainly somewhat annoying (I don't need to brag about them again), the story really gets you hooked in the last part and that somewhat Fallout-style ending - just lovely! I must say, concerning story, characters and dialogues it beats S² and S³ by miles. Of course, H&S *is* meant as a tactical RPG, while the predecessors are only tactical games with RPG elements. But still, the way the story is told, the characters, the Baldur's Gate-esque conversations between the squad members, that's really cool. Is is just me or do the biography files at the end scream "sequel"? I do hope so.
  6. I just received the game from Amazon.de for the full retail price of 29,95$ (ouch). Although H&S is only a mod gone full game, it has an intro movie and completely new setting, additional sounds, weapons, skins, gameplay changings etc. That means it beats JA2:Wildfire retail by miles. Just too bad there isn't a German unofficial patch for it I just started my second time, because the first time I killed Konrad in G-Town because he suddenly turned hostile during the fire fight with the THOs and this way I missed the ambush on the Army Post and ended up with nothing to do on just 4 maps except wasting everbody. Thanks to Ms. I'm-wearing-uniform-Soldier-girl I couldn't even go to Z-town without having my team locked up (my bad, although the location names are in my native tongue, I can't remember them ) . If I hadn't consulted a walkthrough on what to do next, I wouldn't even had known what I did wrong. In danger of shooting prematurely here, I'd call that a giant design flaw. And while the dialogues are witty and interesting, they are also sometimes very confusing and out-of-order. The roleplay is pretty nice, but even though I just solved about 3 quests in my first attempt at the game, I already went up to level 12 or so... is the game that short or do I spent the last half/third as a kick-ass jack-of-all-trades in my class? And since finding new equipment and applying it to my squad is a very important part of a RPGs magic to me, the generally low weapon durability is really pissing me off. I don't want my SMGs fall apart after 5 repairs due to sunken durability, Novik ! I found the S³ durability quite annoying, but still more realistic than the H&S one. Nevertheless, I like the game. It has an interesting setting, the lovely S² engine, and the addictive taste of interesting story and new weapons to be discovered. The German dubbing is good, too, and the new missions are a fresh breeze to the still brilliant tactical gameplay of S² (fake Secret Service papers, you gotta love them).
  7. As far as I know the camera angles for S3 are already wider than in S2. At least I don't remember changing anything in the S3 config file concerning the camera.
  8. Since I have the time, I might as well elaborate on my tactics on this mission. I played the campaign 3,5 times. The first time I encountered this mission I got my ass kicked horribly (no save before entering the cutscene ). Then I replayed it and it wasn't such a problem anymore. The key is to come through the western door. In all my four attempts a THO would trigger at least some of his own mines before I got there. Only once my grenadier had to trigger the last mine with a grenade and receive his punishment. I never split up my squad for the bomb room, and I used the tranquilizer darts only in one of my three successful attempts. I just lined up my squad in what I felt was a logical order, and then stormed the room. The mechanic ran for the first bomb no-matter-what, and the rest of the squad provided cover fire. My sniper alone would take out one guy per turn, and then there were the soldier and the grenadier with their light MGs wrecking the room. With some use of the quicksave and -load keys, I finished the THOs off in time and got to defuse the only bomb they ever managed to plant before it exploded, and this I achieved without any KIAs in my team. What I want to point out is that you can finish this mission successfully without very elaborated tricks and tactics. Of course, if you go for realism (no quicksave/-load orgies etc.) and finesse, then you should definitely split up your team and make use of the tranquilizer gun you can find in the level. But after spending almost 40 minutes just to get to the bomb room, I never could be bothered
  9. I only played this mission once, but I remember from the boards here that it is almost impossible to finish this mission with the 'stealth' objective being successful. Search the forum a bit, you'll find your answers. It's open to discussion whether this is a bug or a feature...
  10. Hm... first off, the game is neither buggy nor stupid when you can't solve this mission although you have godmode on. The mission goals say: Disarm the bombs. There's a whole building above the cellar with the bombs (that's why Thor's Hammer is planting it in the cellar anyway), and when the bombs blow up, that building comes down killing everybody inside - i.e. the UN ambassadors. It doesn't matter the slightest if your men are invulnerable to the bombs explosion, you still failed the objective to disarm the bombs. Perhaps you should have used logic on the mechanics of this mission, then you wouldn't have had to resolve to cheats. I'm actually surprised that you say you don't cheat in other games, when you make such rash mistakes and fail for so obvious reasons. Now to something helpful: The mission is well finishable without using cheats. Most people prefer to split up their squad, but from my experience that isn't even necessary. It's all about understanding which tactic the mission is expecting from you. That is stealth in the first part, and reckless storming in the bomb part. In fact, how you get to the bomb part is not important, as long as you bring your whole squad in a fairly good shape. Take as much time as you want, the bomb time won't start before you trigger the cut scene. Then, position your squad so that you can trigger the cut scene any second. What you'll have to do is simply storm the room. There are enough tactics about the details, but I'll leave that up to you. I always managed with the simple, brute running-in-and-plugging-everyone. Just incapacitate all 4 guys in there within the three rounds, and then you should have all the time in the world to disarm the bombs. Another tip: You can see the bomb-laying THO the best when you enter from the Western door. Kill him first, then you won't have to worry about him setting up more bombs. PS: It would be wise to make a save when you've set up your team for storming the room, and I don't mean a quicksave.
  11. Yes, get it! You won't regret it, of that I'm sure. But I recommend you to play Silent Storm before playing Sentinels, because I really missed some features of Sentinels when I played Silent Storm again. On the other hand, I did not miss the weapon durability... And if you have any questions about gameplay, mods or other technical issues, juts consult the forum. Even if your specific question hasn't already been covered here, there are enough passionate, and maybe even more important, skilled Silent Storm fans around to help you with almost anything. Welcome to the boards.
  12. I guess we're way past a spoiler warning here... Anyway, I played the stealth way 3 times and always got this ending. I don't think there is any other way to do it; as soon as you open the door or even get too close to it, the cinematic starts. And one of the "random guys" the MechSoldiers kill is Boris... So, what you see in the end, is the end. Making great ends to games doesn't seem to be Nival's greatest strength .
  13. Oblivion? ... I hate you! I wish you would fall into a deep well with slimy walls and never be able to crawl out again! Nah, not that bad. But I think my system barely meets the minimum requirements for that game, so I don't even consider paying 50 bucks for it. It's enough that X3:Reunion only runs smoothly when I turn off anti-aliasing and anisoptric filtering *shakes his white, soft student fist at imaginary hardware industry whores*. Well, I confess: I'm a cheater. I like to have things my way. I'm so compassionate for my squad that I would never accept the death of one of the squad members, what other players do without remorse. To each their own I think. I didn't cheat in SS the first time though, I got my beloved SeaDevil and Protoype 8M1 the hard way. I mainly use cheats for the sake of roleplaying, for example when I give my character in S3 a good start weapon because after all he's been with Abwehrsektion II/ SE 2 and it doesn't make that much sense that such a pro is left without any weapon after the war. I also always found it ridiculous that I'm supposed to free Arulco with 40.000$ . Well, that's my gaming style. I have no problem being called a "quicksave whore"; I like it my way, and at least I only use cheats and walkthroughs sometimes where they are available, instead of extra programs like trainers. Also, I would never try to cheat in an online game. PS: I beat the S3 UN mission in London 3 times, without any cheats at all. I didn't even refer to the mission tips provided in this forum .
  14. Never found that chest either, but I never really cared for it anyway. I only played SS once completely (Axis! I'm German, and it was nice being the good guy in a WWII game ) and then until the final mission on Allies side, where the game crashed my pc when loading the final mission - noPK mod perhaps? I played through S3 four times though... it's better when mechanics and medics work properly. Why do you consider quicksaving and -loading cheating, DoomMonkey? Of course, always giving the random generator a chance is a way a lot of gamers go, but personally, I like to pretend that my squad is made up of professionals who know what they're doing. So, if the hit chance is 85% and my guys and gals still miss, and because of that catch a bullet in the enemy turn, I quickload. I play games like an episode of the A-Team - the plan always works and nobody screws up unnecessarily
  15. Yeah, Ninjas ... well, I forgot to write about those. I think I beat this encounter at level 9... and only with the use of lots of grenades and "volley shots", i.e. the whole squad firing at pre-quickload located positions of hidden ninjas... the blood clouds show if you hit them even when you can't see the ninjas. But those shurikens, damnit... don't be ashamed if you end up half dead at this encounter, those guys and the duracell rogue Jap officer (he runs, and runs, and runs, and eventually stabs everyone) are probably the toughest opponents in the entire game. Panzerkleins? HA! A couple grenades and heavy rifles do the trick... but those ninjas kill half your squad in one turn, and always get interceptions. But that makes it even more a pleasure to waste those f*ckers.
