  1. Wow! What a stand! Such determination and logic to it, almost like a mathematical formula. I feel I have to make some comments, because how we are talking about a more subtle matter. This might seem like a semantic issue, but here lies the root of all the problems we have: one thing is to be a follower, the other is to be a believer. If you are a follower, you follow someone who claims he knows best (at least better than you). If you believe, you believe in the core of your religion. Being born and raised as a Christian, I've spent my entire life looking for the essence of Christ's teachings, and those, basically, are love and tolerance. "Love your fellow man as yourself", "the other cheek" etc. (I'm not a native English speaker, so forgive my incorrect quotes). I will try not to follow but to BELIEVE in that, and to perform accordingly. And you are right about one thing - that's the way the things are. Those buggars who strap themselves with explosives are no believers, they are just stupid and ignorant followers of their equaly stupid and ignorant - and vicious religious leaders. I haven't read the Couran, but my Moslem friends are telling me that there's no secret order against the Christians in there. I't just a matter od interpretation. If you are a vile person, you will find an excuse for your savagery. I simply refuse to believe that we are created to kill one another over some lines in some books (or over some cartoons, as well). The life we have is too precious to be wasted like that (unles you are a Budist - in that case you have a continuous just-give-me-one-more-chance situation, which puts them in great advantage over the rest of us one-timers. When I come to think about that, THEY would be the ideal suicide bombers). We are here to make some sense of our lives, and to leave the world a better place than we found it. Speaking of extremism, that's a dead-end. In the end, it inevitably leads to "us or them" situation, and that's something we saw throughout the history. You simply can not perform "the final solution to the Moslem question" or "the Christian question". I will leave the Jews out of this, they know first hand how it's like. What will be next? To grab swords and impose our believes with steel and fire? Let them plant bombs all over the West, the cassualities would be relatively light because they are not technicaly sophisticated as us. We do have nukes, they don't, so let's put a big one over Mecca during the Hadj? Now that's a retaliation. Now it's Europe's move. IMO, we should take a firm stand - we are not obliged to adhere to your religion, we are not imposing anything on you, so please you do the same. Your house, your rules. Our house, our rules. And if you are offended by the cartoons, just think how we can be offended by, let's say, the way you treat women. Or the way you do your personal hygiene in the toilet. You go ahead and rave on, but we will stick to our values. And if you want to live together, and you do because the prosperity of your nations lies in the ties with the West, you gotta learn to be tolerant. In time, they will learn too.
  2. OK, but what program? Is it that Blueshell (or something else KoMiK mentioned as a replacement)? Will the full SQL (not the one provided with the game, that's just an engine), I mean SQL Developer, will it do the job? An that job is to change the core game database, no mods. Please, I'm in the dark there
  3. No man, you are too modest. You guys managed to hit just the right buttons in those four levels. Let's face it - the way the soldiers move in SS is a bit funny, and when I first encountered PK's, they looked like a wasted idea which had a potential to be great. They turned out to be just the huge borring and annoying hard targets. Too clumsy, too self-important, without a bit of self-parody. Yes, game developers placed some good elements in there - secret projects, scientist and stuff - but those scientist were not crazy enough and their projects are mediocre. Spaghetti Westerns are cool, but let's be completely crazy: how about giant mutant spiders who spurt green beams (or something in a Plan 9 From Outer Space style - they already placed the UFO in the game, let's give them exclusivity for Sci-Fi weapons), zombie bad guys with SMG's, something along the lines of Re-Animator / Dawn of The Dead... or even The Mars Attacks. Ed Wood rules! As far as salability is concerned, I'm lost there. The way this corporate world of game developers is conctructed, by default tends to dilute any original, non-conventional idea. Their marketing teams of analysts and psychologist will say some "no, this is not hard-core enough, people won't buy that" s**t, and the fresh ideas will go down the drain. It looks like we can't fight against the machine (only to rage about it), but... Your approach to the game is so fresh and funny that it struck a chord in me. You managed to hit just the right ballance of seriousnes, tough gameplay and self-parody. It's fresh, funny and chalenging. Maybe the people from JoWooD are reading this. Maybe, if they are not authistic or something, maybe they have someone in charge of new ideas for their old stuff. Maybe it'll struck a chord in them too. I gues that it won't be too expensive for them to encourage you guys to pursue your great idea further. They already have an old game, and this will help company to gain more on the old investment. You can not do it on yourselves, but with JoWooD behind you, it is something completely different. I'm in an entertaining business myself (TV), and I know a thing or two about the spin. Here, on the forums, people like you have the oportunity to generate spin, and that's the only way to get into the system - salability and stuff. Just keep up the good work, raise the spin on the forums. Maybe that's the way.
  4. Now, wait a sec! As far as I can tell from that comprehensive tutorial is: - the editor that goes with the game simply allow us to form the mods and implement them, but the real work in tweaking gun stats must be done outside of the SS2 or SS3? - does it mean that I can, with the full SQL, simpy modify the data in the core game database file, and the game will perform accordingly? (OK, I know that in that case I won't be able to switch between the mods and the original data, but it looks like an easier way to achieve my tweakings. I have couple of huge hard drives, there's enougg place for backing up the original Is that the case? Will the full SQL do the job?
  5. Thanks. So, "no easy way out", ha? It's a crying shame that they haven't put those features in the proper, regular game editor. Would be much easier.
  6. An interesting debate indeed, but you guys strayed too much into history. What happened ten centuries ago is not an issue here: the Crusaders indeed were extremly barbaric and vile in the Arab countries, the Moslems did their fare share of attrocities in Europe (the Turks were at the gates of Viena), but that was then and let's leave it there. We are living in a different world now. This is a question of tollerance. Do you really think that the boys burning Dannish flags in Peshevar know a thing about freedom of the press, religious tollerance, other's concepts of life, personal freedoms, even the position of Denmark on the world's ma'? No, they just see a cross on the flag and that's it. This is venting out the hatred towards the West, plain and simple. When I was in Egypt on a summer holliday, I was not offended because they asked me to took my shoes of when neccesary. I was not offended because I had to listen to the prayers from the loudspakers, didn't try to rip of any of the scarfs from the woman's heads, and I had no intentions of raising a street protest for the lack of the pork chops that I like. Their land, their customs. But I was raised in Europe, in the "live and let live" atmosphere. The Moslems must understand that we who are not Moslems are IN NO WAY obliged to adhere to their believes.
  7. I've been a long time fan, playing the games as they were released. In the meantime, one CD got lost, the other trashed, so I've recently purchased a GOLD EDITION. I've beaten both games over and over, this way or another, so I've decided to fiddle 'round with the weapons stats to put some bite into the old, long time ago solved situations... and in my editors for both SS there are only values for BMP, sound, trail speed ETC. Where are the weapons damage, range, AP cost and that kinda stuff? I've patched both editor and the SS2 game to 1.2 (that is, i've downloaded the patch and run the exe) but to no avail. In the tabs for RPG, RPG Weapons and RPG Item there are only the values for model of the gun. Please help me to solve the weapons stats editing, 'cause I want to make a "Idiot mod". The idea is to use the worst soldiers, the cheapest ones, and to give them some extremly powerfull mother-of-all-battles WMD humongous weapons to break walls and stuff with it, because one of the strongest points of the game is destructability of the buildings. I want to explore that all the way, WITHOUT GOING INTO SCI-FI green beams and stuff, and console.
  8. KoMik, I'm new to this forum. I've stumbled upon it today, downloaded your game... and I was stunned! You made a better, more intriguing start than the both original games. Someone in the company should seriously think about this: You JooWooD guys (if anyone of you are realy reading this) should be ashamed. You are notorious for the extremely short games. One just starts to worm up to your game... and there's the end! Put more levels! Contact the people from the forums, here's the gem for you! This KoMik has just given us almost a third od your entire game (SS2 or SS3), and what a third it is! Take this guy, encourage him to work, and give us new entire mods. Follow his inspiring idea, build upon that with him, give us more add-ons. Every once in a while a short several-level packages, put them on forums. Work with KoMik. It will boost the sales of the game. After all, we've all given you money for the game - don't leave us just with a game that is several years old, still atracts huge interest, but to what avail? Is it like you've made your financial plan and that's about it? No, people, do a little bit more. It'll help your company, and we will all benefit from it. Please take this as a friendly suggestion, given in a good will. KoMik, you ROCK!
