  1. Back to playing my way through UFO:AM and installed the ALPine mods and they are GREAT! Especially, the ability to zoom in to a point right there with the troops. Changes the game a lot, for the better. Doubt the guy who did it is still around, but thanks a lot.
  2. I'm scheduling a little 'wall-to-wall' counseling session with my scout before our next mission! Not knowing any better I was suspecting there might be some downside to randomly blasting obvious civilians, but once they started shooting at me they are targets. Thank God CNN hasn't been invented yet!
  3. Thank you very much for appearing. This goes back to before Christmas when I was trying to get AddMod to work so I might be a bit fuzzy on the detail, but I think I've got it straight. I have the version sold in the US, I think it is v1.1. I installed AddMod. So far no problem. Then I added the 'Grenade Range Increase'. Started the game and suddenly there are no grenades in the game! I tried this with an ongoing game, ie with saved games - here the grenades disappeared from my soldiers inventory and the base supply. I am almost sure I had the same experience with a clean new install. Later I discovered the in-game menu, custom game?, method. I had the same results there also. I also tried the 'Easier Medical and Engineering Items' Mod. The caused the game to crash - I forget the details of just when and what was involved in the crash, I think I remember it going to a blank screen. I like SS a lot and I like to maybe try my hand at modding, but if I can't even load mods known to work, it seems kind of pointless. And advise on how to get this working would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Considering the hours I've wasted trying to get things to work with SS, I have no problem asking and hoping to benefit from others experiences. Do you have a problem with that?
  5. Last two games I've had civilians, Germans, shot my troops. In one game a civilian in a random encounter that I had been careful not to shot picked up a MP40 and ran up to where my guys were behind a wall and opened up on them. As he died, he was still whining about us being uncivilized. Next game, mission to intelligence HQ in north Germany, one of my guys almost get killed when a civilian emptied a clip from a SMG from inside his kiosk. I'm starting to develop an attitude about them!
  6. Just noticed something read one of the posts below. I have SS Gold, which is v1.1. I have never been able to get AddMod and mods to work. Do you guys think upgrading to v1.2 might enable AddMod so I can mod SS? It would be nice to fix the silly grenade range!
  7. Is there any positives or negitives involved in shooting civilians? As a general thing I've been trying to avoid it, but occasionally one of the buggers will grab a weapon and shot me! My current inclination is shoot them all and let God sort them out, but do I get penalized for doing this?
  8. But shooting or blasting open containers seems to destroy most or all of the contents! I was careful to use just a pistol to shoot open a crate, but it still destroyed the MG34 that was in the crate. Wish I could get the addmod to work so I would be motived to learn how to mod some of the oddities.
  9. Yep, totally different folders. Good question, sometimes it is the little things that get you. I'm wondering how I coould have goofed up something seemingly so simple. And these two mods would greatly improve the game. I'm wondering if maybe I can't learn to get into the actual game db and make some changes just for me. I noticed this recent post: "You need MS-acess to edit the variables: recoil factor, weight, targetting bonus, AP needed for aiming." Which suggests to me that I can use MS-Access to open the db and modify grenade weights (which is what the mod does). However, without having read the instructions I tried to open the db with Access and it didn't recognize the format, sigh. Guess I better read up on this. Still, wish I could get the mods to work.
  10. I downloaded AddMod and several interesting mods, but something isn't working right. I installed AddMod and then used it to install Grenade Range Increase and Easier Medical and Engineering Items. Grenade Range Increase - removed all grenades from the game, to include back at base! Obviously not what was wanted or intended. Also the game soon after starting crashes to desktop. Easier Medical and Engineering Items - seems to have work, but soon afterwards crashes to desktop. I'd very much like to use these two mods but something isn't working. BTB, I'm running S2 from the disks that come with Silent Storm Gold, i.e. with Sentnals. Advise would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Yep, in WW1 the US troops got stuck with the Chauchat and they had a few 'comments' about it. But it lead them to the BAR later. Nice work! You mention H&S. Will there be some sort of better modding support in H&S that can be used with S2/3?
  12. Brandenburg, Opps, I made a mistake. I confused the WWI Chauchat with the later Chatellerault. I'm not familier with the Chatellerault, but I've read several unhappy comments about the Chauchat of WW1. Thanks for the correction. I don't think I'm a weapons nut, but some of the oddities in S2 are a bit jarring, so a weapons mod would be GREAT! BTB, a not commonly know fact about the excellent 120mm mortar that the Germans copied from the Russians; is that the Russians copied it from a French Brandt mortar that wasn't issued in any large number. There was some excellent French equipment.
  13. Thanks for the responses. I've nevered modded, but would like to give this a try and this 'might' be something simple - I'll see. KoMik, Certainly understand about the Germans using any weapons they could get their hands on. That is perhaps best know in terms of armoured vehicles, but it certainly applied to a wide range of things. Still, a majority of the equipment would be German; and certainly if you are dealing with German troops infiltrated into Scotland you'd expect them to have the best of the German arsenal, not 50 year old Russian rifles and a crappy WW1 French light machine gun. However, these a MINOR issues in a very very good game. Thanks,
  14. Total newbie, just got SS recently and even more recently got it working. However, something is bugging the heck out of me - the wierd designations, i.e. .38 calibre Parabellum vic 9mm Parabellum and the odd weapons I'm finding in the hands of the Nazi troops. I've already seen more Mauser 1896 'broomhandle' pistols than I expect were actually on the Russian Front, not to mention all the Soviet weapons in the hands of Wehrmacht troops in the West. Would it be difficult to: 1) change some of the designations? 2) change the weapons the Germans use? If not I guess I'm doomed to fighting Nazi armed with M1 Carbines and BARs, both in 7.62mm of all things. I'm fully expecting to meet a 7.62mm 06 vic .30 06. thanks
  15. Have DirectX 9.0b installed and not the latest nVidia drivers, but drivers that are newer than the game. Will be upgrading the nVidia drivers tonight.
