  1. Actually, Novosibirsk is in Southern Russia. But after living here in Siberia for as long as I have, I'd have to say the two curses of Russia are the infrastructure and the woeful ethics of the people. I'm not saying all Russians are dishonest, but there are less trustworthy Russians than there are trustworthy. It pains me to admit it, since I have managed to find some really good, honest Russian friends. Corruption and a lack of general honesty are what keep this country a backwater economy. Things we take for granted in the West (banking system, pensions, insurance, respect for law enforcement and govt.) are unworkable here because everybody is trying to screw everybody else on a daily basis. Every Russian I've met who has heard of the business model for eBay snorts and begins to laugh. They all agree that such a system of negative and positive feedback is not enough to stop every Russian from trying to cheat every other Russian in such a business model. It's simply a cultural defect. Only a Russian can proudly smile as he tells you how he cheated another person out of money/vodka/property. He's simply not capable of being ashamed for screwing his neighbor. Quite the opposite, he feels himself a role model that others should admire. I only hope that a couple decades of time will cure this fatal flaw of Russian character. Anyway, probably way off topic for this forum...on to the game... The game is completely stand-alone and does not require a previous installation. I managed to dig up the HTML-based manual included in the installation directory. Of course it's in Russian, so I ran it through Promt and got the following regarding the first mission: Advice(Councils) on passage of the first zones In introduction the main hero meets the chief and receives the task. Closely(attentively) read dialogue and try to imagine conditions in which you should operate. Your immediate task - to proceed(pass) border between the Soviet and western occupational zones, to arrive on a place and to make contact to Vaclav which you know. The first interactive zone represents a site of border between the Soviet and American zones of occupation. Dialogue of the hero with the chief security clears up two important circumstances: first, ordinary frontier guards are not warned about your occurrence and will count you the infringer if will find out. Second, the chief all has thought up a way how to facilitate to you secretive crossing of border. Distribute(Allocate) items(points) of skills of the hero and it is cautious, on all fours move to border. From subjects it will be necessary for you only кусачки for are sharp a wire, use of the weapon in this zone is equivalent to suicide. Wait the moment about which the chief security spoke, and do pass to an obstacle. Take into account, that from the moment of transition of border you become the opponent for the American frontier guards. Cautiously creep to an opposite part of a zone, up to a place highlighted with a wide strip. It is area of transition in other zone, such areas will meet to you and in other zones. After transition of border you get on a card(map) of region and in some hours arrive to destination - settlement which is approximately in 30 km from border. Actions in the second zone will be more complex(difficult) and more long. Having arrived in settlement, you become the involuntary witness of execution of several people the armed group in the unknown form. It is obvious, that your occurrence has not been stipulated, and the group is adjusted hostilely in relation to you. Though the numerical superiority not on your party(side), at you is advantage in the first course. For attack of group of opponents most effectively to use pomegranates. At successful throws the part of opponents will manage to be destroyed at once, others will be wounded and demoralized. Then use the fire-arms. After fight do not hurry up to collect the weapon of the opponent! It is much more important to survey settlement and to receive any data from local residents. Examine shotting people - probably, someone from them could survive casually. Pass to a room on a ground floor of a house to get acquainted with the doctor. Good relations with the doctor can be useful very much to you further. Detailed research of a house can be postponed on then, in the beginning try to find and ask somebody from local residents. Run on settlement also examine other houses. Eventually to you will call, and you can enter dialogue. Local residents inform about possible(probable) arrival of the second group of armed people and will agree to help to you in reflection of attack. They do not have weapon, but they can pick up the weapon which has stayed from opponents. Recharge the regular weapon, tie up wounds if they at you are, and wait for visitors. Fight will not be easy... After fight find an opportunity to contact the Center, report on conditions and learn(find out) news. Then talk to the doctor and find the owner of a house. From with them you establish what attitudes(relations), the subject line on which events will develop further depends...
  2. Well, boys and girls, I can happily say that the game is out now. I picked up a copy of it here in Novosibirsk, Russia. That's Siberia to you and me. It's a 3CD jewel case and it uses that same StarForce copy protection. Another thing that was surprising was the little registration form that fell out when I opened the case. I didn't think Russians even knew what software registration was, considering they pirate the bejesus out of everything. Started the first mission and already I'm stuck. Seems I'm on the checkpoint between East and West Berlin and it's necessary for me to sneak across (I'm guessing). But I always gets discovered and my bullets don't seem to do any damage to the enemy no matter how many times I hit them. Not even a scratch. I unloaded my silenced mg on this guy and I watch him shake from the impact of the bullets, but his status continues to stay as: Zdorov (healthy). They then shoot me with single burst and I die. End of mission. I guess I'm doing something stupid and probably I should review the cutscenes again, but my Russian is not so good and I don't have the patience. Well, there's a double barbed wire fence between the American and Russian zones that looks to be impassable, although I must admit I haven't tested it beyond first looks. The only way through seems to be past 2 patrolling guards outside, 2 guards that exit the guard post when you trigger them by approaching the guard post, and one big freaking tank that sits in the road, which appears about 1 minutes after you begin the mission. I thought I heard it begin to move moments before the last time I died, so I'm wondering if it's possible to use it as a screen to move to the American side. I stopped playing for a couple hours because I need to boil water for a shower here. Local government hasn't been paying their bills, so no hot water for about a month here. Ahhhhh... Russia. If anyone has any questions, I can try and answer them. Seeya! Disowned
