  1. Hey Veteran/Strike, ever tried VMWare ? It's a very complex way to get a game running, but you could get a virtual Win95/Win98/DOS (whichever you want) machine, to run old games. Just a thought. Duvel
  2. The most stupid thing ? Probably my first attempt at using a Disruptor Launcher... (not gonna explain that...) 10 X-Com soldiers lost 1 HWP lost 1 Craft lost Rating - Terrible !
  3. NKF, what you're actually trying to say in 4 pages, is that you don't know ?? Just kidding, thanks a lot ! Master NKF lead us Master NKF teach us in your light we thrive in your wisdom we are humbled... [D'Haran devotion -- Sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind] Thanks too Jman, gonna try rifles for a bit now... used to do eveything with cannons and non Lobbies with gauss. Bring 'm on !!! Duvel (off on a base raid)
  4. Hi all, couldn't find much info on this one. What I'm wondering is the following: When fighting indoors (activity sites, USO's, bases) against lobbies/tentaculats, which is better ? Sonic cannons or blasta rifles ? Or maybe something else alltogether ? My problem is this, Gauss is great against anything but lobstermen. But when they're around I really need the power of the cannon to finish most in 3-4 shots (not playing superhuman yet - at least not without reloading ). The cannon's accuracy is great two. But I can (almost) never get off more than one shot. So what do you ppl prefer ? Thanks for any input, Duvel PS I already know about the HTH, PDW's and stun weapons. I don't have the luxury off those yet....
  5. Woo, this is impressive, three well put and very informative replies within a day Most things I already knew, except the grenade throwing (at lifts) and some others. Seems to me though that it is indeed a matter of luck. I just have to get used to it I think, this is my first attempt at no-reload play and it takes some getting used too . I entered with 10 soldiers, which of two were merely cannon fodder. Eight made it in and the system spawned two of 'm on the second level alone... surrounded by more than one tentaculat each. I guess I was out of luck. Did manage to blow the CC though and made it out with 6, YAY ! But I have to say, getting in the base isn't that hard. Just have to learn to tackle the inside. Got another question but I made a new thread for it. Hope you guys can offer some input on it too. Thanks !
  6. Hmm... just started playing under WinXP . It seems reasonable stable if you measure with Microsoft standards. Just had my first exception after 2 hours of play. So it should be ok under Win98SE.
  7. Hi everybody, long time lurker, even longer playing. Still I'm lousing at playing, at least after reading this. The easy at which you ppl go through the game... Question: Very often when I get to base assault part 2 some of my squaddies get scattered alone. As Murphy's law dictates, he/she's surrounded by some lobbies with PWD's and some tentaculates. Now I do wonder how to get around those with only one soldier ?? Answer to the losing USA/Scandinavia support: You can have an incredible score all over the globe. But if one Infiltrator ship gets through you're always the loser. Inifiltration succes doesn't depend on score as far as I know.... O well.. i'm off to tackle another base.
