    Oh noes

Just a li'l update That strategy did work pretty well, too, until I finally got collapsible machine guns and Neosteads :peachy: It only missed one thing: T-shirts
  3. *dies* That must have been amazing ... and I've only seen crap like Lambretta (at best! It was painful... I still haven't been able to repress it =P) live how awful this existence is ^-^ The first metal band I liked must have been... Metallica I think but Finntroll got me completely hooked :peachy: shame that singer got cancer though, they were so good (my ex even named her cat after him ) I haven't tried any of those - but I did get a chance to look through the Rune rulebook once, but wasn't too amazed by it. I keep hearing good things about Babylon 5 though Call of Cthulhu has also been on my to-do-list for years, but I haven't gotten around yet checking it out yet (and speaking of which...) :/
  4. Thanks :peachy: The forum is here, it's been around for about a year and was originally a Morrowind community (that went wrong ). And the RPG is a current-day themed thing I've been working on sparsely for a few years, its working name is ORGANS but I think I will change that later on  The novels are pretty incoherent and mostly just filled with senseless violence. It's fun to write but they totally suck  By the way, do you by any chance like Dimmu Borgir? *listens to them now* Oh, and, regarding your favorite games list: Did you know that that exists as a P&P RPG aswell? I haven't tried it though Yay
  5. And I'm Alexander, from Umeå (Sweden). Nice to meet you I'm basically what Slaughter said, minus that I have studied economy and am now studying compsci (not kidding. This is almost scary) I like tabletop RPGs (All Flesh Must Be Eaten is the only "global" one I'm into, otherwise it's just a few swedish ones <Eon, Neotech>), reading (anything and everything. Favorite book: Fight Club, favorite author: Bret Easton Ellis), writing, american whisky, and believe it or not - studying And of course, computer games (in the style of X-Com/U:AM/Daggerfall) I also run a forum, which takes a lot of time and effort, and finally I love zombie/splatter movies and emotional down-to-earth anime (watch 'Hajime no Ippo' if you haven't!) I think I mentioned writing, but by that I mean novels and actually an own RPG so no deep poetry or anything. But I and a friend did once write a thing - in swedish - about a hamster in the microwave, and I got it translated by an american friend known as Twisted_Ferret. Here it goes:  And - nice forum hope noone minds if I stick along and post some sick poetry every now and then

They are? I would never have guessed that 9mm > 7.62, but I guess ALTAR work in mysterious ways And one return shot is much better than the three they usually get (although I just managed to root out a base without any casaulties *proud* 7/7 to the sickbay though...). The lasers are useful? I never bothered with them, not even in the last game I finished, thinking "what can they do that we humans can't? Bah, humbug!" - but I guess it's time to finally embrace it But anyway, thanks for the advice Kret (and everyone else ) I think it'll work much better than the "quantity-over-quality"-kalashnikov-thing I'm doing now :peachy: *fires up Aftermath again to try out that old Area 51-thing that has been hanging around since a few months back*

Thanks Yeah... I found a few CAWs lying around, but that didn't do much of a difference, not in battleships at least so I guess it's time to finally let the regular troops sweat a little I just tried that, and yeah, I must say it works pretty well Most things die instantly to those CAWs on full auto, but I am most concerned about these thingies (that the alien there is carrying around). I think it's them at least; they kill the entire squad in like two or three shots Or wound them enough to incapacitate them. The procedure usually looks like this: 1) Wow, a reticulan... *shoots and gets shot* 2) Starting to heal those with their health in the red zone 3) Wow, another reticulan... shame we've got our hands full of medikits 4) Three or four casaulties, another reticulan pops up 5) At least we died with our boots on... Could work, I'll give it a shot
  8. I see it like this: The pistol is a sidearm and the rifle is a... well, rifle I use both. The rocket launcher guy gets a pistol in his belt and the other ones get extra rifle ammo. And then the pistol can be a million times better if it wants to, but it would still not feel logical to give pistols to soldiers when there are rifles available  And if I would be a soldier and get a little laser pistol in my hand while Joe over there runs around with a rocket launcher, my morale would totally drop ("I don't care about what those scientists say... if we're expected to need rocket launchers and only get PISTOLS, I'm resigning!"), so no. But then again, I've always been more of a roleplayer than a powergamer

I see you have a great taste in music Ah... Rauland doesn't ring any bells, but I think I've been in Stavanger once or twice, when I was younger I'm from Umeå, a fairly large student town on the east coast (26% of the population are students ).

    Oh noes

and I don't have anything better than Kalashnikovs. No, really They totally mangle me, except for in open terrain. But those small bases are very cramped and I just stopped reloading upon every death, so I'm like being raped here Does anyone have any good anti-reticulan-base tactics? (during the last game I finished, I reloaded as soon as someone died, but I still always got 6 or 7 to the sickbay in each alien base and they pop up like pimples in the face the day before the date with a really hot girl ) Their battleships are equally horrible too, and they all seem to crash inside of my territory and become "profound", so I don't have much of a choice And by the way - which is better: Substantial or profound? Thanks in advance for any insight on this and I hope it hasn't been asked and answered a million times before

Busted I really need to cut that hair to make it less obvious neat, we're like neighbours. Where in Norway do you live, if you don't mind me asking? :peachy:

    Piracy.

No, the original is still there to be copied and those copies are there to be sold cars work the same way - thousands of copies of a particular type are made and then sold. The only difference is that software is just... software =) You're not selling the CD/DVD, the manual or the little box it's packed in - you're selling the software. If you would build a volvo from scratch then you're not really copying it. Then you've built it :o If you would take a game and look at it and then program an entirely new game - or make a cover on some song - then, apart from the plagiarism , alright, but that's another thing

    Piracy.

How large do you think the increase would've been if noone pirated? Keep in mind that it's a bigger market to feed too (those 3% only comes from people who pay for the software) => more demands on a higher quality product (more competition) => more costs + less income due to piracy => higher prices for paying customers or bankruptcy. So say that those 3% have to reach $500'000 for the company not to go minus on it - the scenario is as follows: 40'000 people decide to enjoy this game. 1) 30'000 pirate it and 10'000 buy it legally. The pirates generate no income and thus the final price for one copy of the game must cost at least 500'000 / 10'000 = $50. 2) All 40'000 buy it legally. The cost for one copy now becomes 500'000 / 40'000 = $12.5. 3) The increase on 3% = $500'000, thus, 100% = 16.7 million bucks. Now say that everyone buys it legally, and the company gets to charge $50 for it: 40'000
  15. I don't think tanks can't weigh up 4 rookies... maybe one or two, but not an entire group of them. The only reason I really bring them along every time is the 80 items limit. A tank only counts as one item unless my memory fails me, and a rookie requires at least 5 (weapon, clip, extra clip, medikit, grenade) to be of any use, but some soldiers also need stun guns, smoke grenades, pistols (for those rocket launcher dudes) and flares for instance... so I guess I'll have to cope with a tank or two <_< (is there a mod that increases that limit by the way?) I seriously do not see any other benefits, other than that the fusion ball launchers seem to be more effective than the blaster launchers (of course, that's nothing four blaster launchers couldn't weigh up). Well, it would be to force myself to put someone to guard the outside of UFOs (as tanks can't enter them) since I always seem to miss an alien or two there. Not that it's impossible to backtrack, but I'm a very impatient person and would rather not to =P But other than that, I think they suck really. I'd do much better without them, if I could have more soldiers instead. But noooo, I have to limit myself to only like 2 door-opener-rookies... Hi, by the way =) I'm new here but I do recognize a few people from the xcomufo-forums, so it isn't too intimidating, despite that it's all blue and stuff here :o
