  1. I still haven't bought Aftershock because I do not want Starforce on my PC. Will the North American release use Starforce? If it doesn't I might buy it online from there.
  2. When my system is idle - i.e. I am not running any application software 250MB of RAM are being utilised!!!!!! In other words that much memory is tied up just with the operating system and its associated drivers. I have made attempts at various times to clean this up by manually removing unwanted drivers but this is wrought with risk. For the uninitiated there is no way of telling what is important and what is just spam. Operating system bloat is a huge problem. Starforce adds yet another load, again permamnently reducing RAM that could otherwise be used for something more useful eg. actually running the game.
  3. I have heard so many bad things about Starforce that I am actually very reluctant to buy the game. Money is not really an issue for me, but the last thing I want is endless operating system problems associated with copy protection. And I most certainly do NOT want to visit some odd website in order to un-install software that I did not want in the first place. Much as I think I would enjoy the game (after the bugs are ironed out) I am most reluctant to buy it. Someone please convince me I am wrong
  4. Multiplayer ? I couldn't care less. What I really want is for this to be turned into a strategy game instead of just a shooter. Might as well go play 'Deer Hunter' and kill stuff. (Hmmm... hunting deer with grenades, now that could be fun.) X-COM and JA2 were REAL strategy games! I still play both. Having finished S2 (Allied) once I am in no rush to go back for more. I started the Axis campaign but got bored very quickly. There's just not enough variation here to make it interesting.
  5. Why bother with pistols? ALL my team carry a sniper rifle AND a SMG. At long range use the rifle, close up use the SMG. There's plenty of space in the back-pack for both!
  6. Try Mg42 for firepower and G41W(?) as a sniper rifle. It has a 10 round magazine and uses the same ammo as the LMG. Can be reloaded from the MG42 boxed ammo. Makes life simple. Only need to carry a few cartridge belts for all my ammo needs. Whats more there's always plenty of it lying around to pick up as well!
  7. I down loaded the S2HQ file twice and both times it told me it was corrupt. Upset me a bit since each download took 2+ hours. Seems to be a problem here. I followed the link to 'worthplaying' and that one worked OK.

    Game Editor?

I found it, but its pretty obscure. Some better documentation would have been a help. You need to 'repair' the program and this gives the option to install the editor.
  9. My copy of S2 did not ship with a game editor. It was bought on-line in Australia from Games Warehouse. I posted this on Nival's board and also asked Jowood in the UK. No replies anywhere. Can anyone suggest where I can get the editor?
  10. I remember doing all this sort of stuff in JA2 to raise my mercs stats. But really you are abusing flaws in the game system. These days I prefer not to do this but rather raising stats by having the characters actually doing the skills. I guess you could argue that all soldiers undergo training when they are not in action. Perhaps this can be used as justification for this peculiar behaviour. In any event, all the things suggested are tedious and boring in the extreme.
