  1. The frontal assault is more satisfying. You need high-penetration weapons against PKs - grenades don't cut it. I usually go in with two PKs and panzerschreks. The second time I finished, my score was about twice the first time, I've no idea why.
  2. As I recall, there's a lot of cash, bonds etc in the vault in the Egyptian ruins - I assume that the "no-loot" poster went down there? After dropping a grenade on the hatch?
  3. I got a quick and helpful response from Jowood when I had a problem running S2/S3 on a new machine. You can e-mail support@jowood.com if you can't find an answer elsewhere. Helps if you include some info as follows:
  4. Note that some recent NVidia drivers are NOT SUPPORTED by Win XP. When I tried to download them, I was deep into the process when XP intervened and stopped it. Overall, the system described isn't really up to S2/S3. I originally ran S2 with AMD 1600xp, 512 Mb Pc-133 and 128 Mb GeForce2 MX 440, but it's far better with my current set up - AMD 2400xp, 512 Mb DDR, 128 Mb GeForce 5200. A new graphics card might help.
  5. I couldn't finish the UN bomb mission, didn't have an earlier save. My next team got blasted at the start of the scenario, so I'm beefing them up with random encounters. My latest encounter, I found renegade soldeiers fighting armed civilians ... and a safe with over $68,000 of gold, jewellery etc in it! Total loot from the RE $73,000! Very handy! But Ill stick with my trusted cheapies - Abala, Axel and Carmel - and mid-rangers - Doug and Mike - rather than spend the cash on top rate mercs. New s weapons and off to the London tunnels!
  6. Anyone trying to find Sentinels could check my post in the S3 section. Living in Australia, I've just ordered SS Gold (the only way to get Sentinels in English is in this pack with SS2) via Amazon.co.uk for delivery in London, 22 pounds (29 from Amazon themselves, 22 from one of their third-party suppliers). I'm having it hand-delivered from London.
  7. I first came across Biggles in the late stages of the Terravirtua board - still my favourite games board. I think I was posting as Ranghel then (RANGerHalfELf, an old fantasy RPG character; what do you mean, "Boring"). Any other Terravirtua graduates around here?
  8. Thanks for the responses, I've just ordered a copy of SS Gold through Amazon UK, from one of their third-party suppliers. The cost is 22 pounds, delivered in the UK - my daughter will collect it from my brother's address in London. I'll then have my original SS2 to sell, it was about $A70-80 so should get a fair bit of my 22 quid back!
  9. It looks from the sites mentioned in the Strategy Core Newsletter that Sentinels is only available as part of Silent Storm - Gold Edition. Is that correct, or is it on sale separately? The UK site priced SS-GE at 18 pounds delivered (presumably locally). (That's $45 Australian, much cheaper than SS standalone here in Oz.) However, on the UK site SS-GE is currently "not available." My daughter is in Europe at the moment, and will be spending some time in London. Can anyone advise how she/I can get hold of SS-S either separately or in SS-GE, please? SS-S sounds a bit JA/JA 2-ish (hiring mercs, selling loot etc). Is that the case?
  10. My impression is that all participants in the action gain points, rather than points being based on (total points/number in squad). I ran a single character to level 6. When he was lvl 5, the soldiers in HQ were lvl 3; when he was lvl 6, they were lvl 4 (and I recruited a team), I don't think the game is designed to create super solo charaters rather than a team. I think there is some more detail in older posts, particulalrly from someone who examined the sourcs codes of the game - forgotten his name.
  11. Some PK weapons are specific to certain types/country of origin.
  12. Huwie, your engineer will only get the skill to pick locks (and use better tools) if he keeps trying.
  13. In the Swiss factory stairs, the opposition almost always seemed to get the drop on me - even when I approached from two directions - presumably higher level/interrupt than me -except when I threw grenades near them.
  14. I reached the stage of saying "Well, who needs these PKs?" and climbed the ladder without them. That was in North Britain. I'm about to pick up PKs in the Urals base. This was the first game I started, on Normal. I left it then went back to it after running 2/3 other teams on the Hard level (none yet complete), these teams are well advanced but haven't found that complex.
