Finally some movement for kickass mods. :> *dusts off the EOTP design doc* One thing - if someone could make a 3DS MAX 5.1 and 6 (important to have both versions), plugin, that'd be incredible, because alot of the more pro artists use MAX. Now admitedly, alot of the kids doing it aren't using legal versions, but then again, the companies that make those programs really don't care as long as its not for commerical use. Why do I say that? Simple - 14 year old kids can't afford 3500 bucks for software, but if they use it and get intrested, once they become professional artists, they sure as hell can. That's why most 3D art programs don't require hardware security, you'll notice. Anyways, MAX plugins would rule. As for the tank.... *mouth water* Yoseph
  2. Model editor plugin for 3DS MAX 5 would be REALLY helpful. Also, some sort of outdoor custom mission designer, and possibly, some way to change human charaters into tanks. That's about it from the EOTP mod group... Yoseph

    Seven soldier limit

    The EOTP mod would greatly like to see a 10-12 man team, at least. Prehaps some kind of scrolling action, like at the base view?
  4. Anyone know if tools to add new weapons art and such are around? I haven't messed with Altar's tools too much outside of reading the htmls included with it. Also, are there any mappers yet? Yoseph
  5. And now, what you've all been waiting with baited breath for.... Ok well, maybe not. Please read the entire post, btw Alot of stuff is explained, especially in the terms section at the bottom. Anyways, I've finally gotten around to finalizing how I want things to happen in the EOTP: Deseperate Resistance Complete Modification. First off; this is a 100 precent complete mod. Its basicly a new game based on the engine. Its so complete, I'd be intrested in approaching Altar about releasing it as another game when its done. So, on the more intresting items. ____________________________________________________________________ Cutscenes, 3D art, etc. I have a number of models of EOTP ships in lightwave 3D 6.5 and 7.0 format, with textures. For this mod, various cutscenes and animations will be required, as well as several new models for cutscenes, specificly, various EOTP ground vechicals such as tanks, APCs, fighters, bombers etc, engaging in ground combat. For this I need one serious Lightwave animator/artist to sign on. There won't be that much of it, but what is there I want to look great. ____________________________________________________________________ Gameplay The changes the mod makes to gamplay are very expansive - first and foremost, the biomass goes away. If the tools don't allow for it, we hack it in, or get Altar to assist in turning it off. Interception also goes away, untill the very last section of the game. I want to tie to a development. Research and Development changes quite a bit as well, as does squad creation. I'll explain that more in a bit, after I explain the changes to mission generation. In the normal UFO game, scripted missions happen infrequently. In the mod, I want them to happen on a 2 to 1 basis. 2 unscripted missions for every 1 scripted mission. In addition, there will be alot more scripted missions pushing the story along. Instead of soliders randomly showing up at your base, I want to tie them to specific missions, as this meshes with the story that you are a member of the CDF Reserve, finding other like minded citizens with military training, and recruiting them into your resistance cell. Research/Development is also tied into this. For instance, no "new" items are created. No "new" items can be made, eaither. What you can make, are the stock coalition weapons, after the right people join your movement. You research captured League of Sol weapons, and if you say, find a tank, you can develope it for use; IE, learn the controls. I really want to expand the amount of friendly team members in the game. And I want to add tanks, APCs, jeeps, etc. However, if there is a real engine limitation and Altar refuses to help defeat it, what I would want to do is introduce tanks and such as a character that arrives, and figure out a way to handle this so it makes sense. I realize there's some issues with the AI over a 2x2 unit, but I think those can be overcome. If not, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. As the game progresses, you'll come across more, and better equipped League soliders. Hopefully towards the end, engine permitting, large tank battles can be setup, in urban areas. That should be fun. The final missions of the game will focus on defeating key League installations - with huge garrisons. This will allow the CDF to reenvade the system with mininal losses, as the League military will have little or no command and control. In terms of staff for this, many objectives need to be accomplished. I'd like to have one person that focuses solely on weapons, research and development, and I'll handle all the text and such for those myself. Also needed is an artist to do the new models/graphics for the EOTP weapons etc. Thankfully, EOTP doesn't have 600 different assualt rifles. The CDF weapons are fairly limited to several standard assualt rifles, sub machine guns, a laser weapons, and magnetic projectile weapons (A rail gun), explosives, etc. The League has some different, and more nasty weapons in terms of anti-personnel. The big issue will be several mappers. The more the merrier, as this planet is nothing like any of the maps in the game, with possible exception of the outdoor maps in the middle of no where. Anything inside of a city must be changed, and all the biomass must be removed from the outdoor maps. The existing UFO interior maps are completely useless; in the limited amount of missions inside of League ships, you'll be in a scripted mission anyways, so those will all be new maps. A programmer of some sort will likely be needed as well for the extensive changes required. We'll play that by ear, but if someone is intrested now, and wants to commit, great. One other item is music - I'd like to get someone involved that has some composing skills and decent equipment, and put in some custom music. I always believe that music makes a big difference in "Selling" anything - TV show, short film, game, etc. Overall, I want to create an immersive experience for the player of this mod - to pull them fully into the world of EOTP, and never let go. And I want all of you along for the ride.   7. Alright, since I'm a big time mod guy, and currently developing a mod for Freespace 2, I thought I'd kick this off with my plans for a UFO Complete Modification. Basicly, I've been modding a number of games to fit into a universe I created, called "EOTP". You can download a trailer for EOTP here: www.cambium.com/eotp Its the "EOTPTBFTGGTrailerDVIX.avi. You need DIVX 5 to view it. My plans for UFO are fairly extensive but include the following: Change the way squads are implimented. I want to have multiple squads of up to 12 men. Also, for the EOTP mod, interception will be changed up a bit - IE, it'll mostly go away, and will be used only in cirtain instances. The story is as follows... The League of Sol bombards and invades several outer worlds of the Terran Coalition. You, and a number of other civilians on the planet, decide to continue the fight after the League defeats the military forces of the TC. A completely new weapons set will be introduced, and you will over time capture League weapons, heavy weapons, tanks, APCs, small space craft etc - and the goal of the game will be to eventually hook up with CDF (Coalition Defense Force) command, and conduct key raids to allow the CDF complete surprise in its bid to retake the planet.   9. Alright. I just checked out the game, played a few missions. Right off the bat I can see that maybe 6-7 changes to this game, and its utterly incredible - however, (no flaming please), without those changes, its cool, and it has the "one more turn" feeling to it, but its not all that it can be. So. Instead of whining, bitching, moaning, etc, I've got an idea. Lets mod the game. Here's what I want to add: Teams consisting of up to 18 troops. Tanks, APCs, etc in missions - and alien tanks in missions as well. More advanced and differing types of interceptor fighters to use against Aliens. Multiple squads of soliders (ie, Squad 1 with 12 guys, at base "Alpha" and Squad 2 with 12 guys at base "Beta", etc.). What do you all think? Anyone intrested in making this happen?
