  1. Ive only played the demo thus far and it was really slow on my system, the AI would do the infamous laydown/standup/laydown/standup manuver over and over until finally their APs would run out, and thats just 1 out of the 20 enemy AI on the screen. That crazy music was kind of distracting along with the background color - and the campfire cut scene was kinda lame. S2 & S3 are so good I dont think theres any need for me to buy H&S. Weve heard plenty of Bad & Ugly, can anyone else post some good points?
  2. When you are buying equipment, you click on a players stats box (bottom left area) and then you are able to pay for 'training'. Usually it will cost anywhere from $200-900 to increase a skill or stat. Of course I maxed out my soldiers VP and my scouts AP - but those will cost you a lot. Look for the little red plus sign beside their stat, hover over it will show the price, clicking it will upgrade it 1 point.
  3. Well it wouldve been no problem to save up that much money if it wasnt for the fact that you can spend cash to upgrade your soldiers stats! Ive spent well over 100k on that alone. Thanks for the good hints, at first I didnt want to use the german random encounter to get the 70k, feeling it was kinda of a cheap way to instantly buy awesome troops, but actually it turns out for me it will be just a good way to keep the story moving... somehow that doesnt feel as cheap.
  4. So in the 3rd round of choosing missions to go on (when theres only 3 choices), I finished off 2 of them and when I get back to base I do my usual heal up, buy/sell weapons and spend the rest of my money on upgrading stats ... then I talk to the guy in the hallway and he tells me he'll sell me some info for $100,000, meanwhile I now have $32 .... umm so now Boris doesnt assign me to any more mission so I assume that I MUST pay him the 100k to move on - so is my only option to go to random encounters now and sell the weapons I find until I get enough cash to move on ?
  5. Wow, so theres no way to change it so I can make the camera almost 0 degrees? Sometimes its hard to tell if an enemy will be able to see you if he moves here type thing, and its quick and easy to just move the camera as a sight line...
  6. Quick question: I found the info last night on how to change the camera angles (more freedom), but unfortunately it was for S2, how do I do it for S3 ?
  7. And 1 further point, Ill answer my own question from a couple posts back: "You mean if you kill them all you dont need to defuse?" Yes, even if they plant all 4 (I think 2 were planted in my game), if you kill all 4 enemies you win, no need to defuse them.
  8. Even though thats not the answer I was hoping for, it still makes me feel better to know that its not just me... thx.
  9. Well I can see you are using Shade, it gets me wondering what level the rest of your party is. You have to consider people coming on these forums for help are on their first time through the game, their characters might be low(er) level etc etc. In which case I still think the best strategy is to use the dart guns. http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/index...opic=4643&st=20
  10. Ok, unfortuately I dont have any SS since Im here at work, but let me just ask if anyone else has had strange issues with this map: You know that mansion map, the one where you are suppose to sneak into the house, go upstairs, and speak to some guy that tells you that Lebadev is actually still in prison? Well I spent way too much time killing all the patroling guards, all while hidden. Then I finally kill the guy under the main stairs, avoid a small rush of guys that come to investigate, come back and some guy is now parked on the stairs, no biggie, Ill kill him! No I wont! The game wont let me kill him without it saying 'mission failed' even though I remain hidden! So I leave that area and try to find another way in (which there isnt), but it turns out that if I hit anyone else on the map, it automatically says 'mission failed'! The only thing I can think of (besides it being a bug) is that youre not allowed to kill a certian percentage of enemies on the map, but it doesnt say that anywhere! So in the end I had to settle for not accomplishing the 'be stealthy' objective ... oh well I guess, moving right along...
  11. Ok, to conclude my above post, I finished this mission the other night - It was almost impossible to do, especially the first time I ran thru it when there was no ammo for the air guns in the box. If it werent for those weapons I dont think I couldve pulled it off without fluking out in some way. I had to bring my whole team in from the right side (looking at teh map with the stairs on the bottom of the screen), I think there was a bug or something going the other way b/c the game wouldnt let me defuse the mines blocking the hallway, that first bomb is almost right on the edge so there was no place for my defuser to stand. No biggie. So I tried around 10 times to be able to rush in and kill everyone asap, but the fact is, it almost takes 3 round of straight running to get yer guy to the bombs on the far side of the room which is kinda retarded. Finally I decided to try out these airguns, best descision I ever made! I took out the guy behind the pillar with the pistol, and took out the guy north of him with the rifle - from that point the rest was kinda easy. To summarize: USE THE AIRGUNS!
  12. I just got to this part myself. I fluked into spliting up my squad which happened to be the best way to do it, moved my guys up the stairs towards the doors (which were already opened by someone), before I even make it to the doors the cutscene goes off and now I cant reload except from the beginning of the map. So I tried it a few times, learning how the AI moves around, but I still cant get lucky enough to defuse whatever they plant in 3 rounds... speaking of which, why is everyone else mentioning 5 rounds? For me its 3. Anyways, I think Ill start the mission over so I can at least save before the cutscene. "Bombs get dismantled automatically." You mean if you kill them all you dont need to defuse?
  13. I prefer to keep one hand over the ENTER key for this reason alone: Sometimes you want to run up behind an enemy, get as close as you can before he reacts, then press enter so you have full time units for some close range shooting/stabbing/throwing etc.~
  14. The load times arent really that bad, its just the sometimes they are completely unneccessary. ie the computer moves this way, then that, then it lays down, gets back up, each round, as if it knows not what its doing ... but this is only what i noticed from the hammer and sickle demo, man that was terrible. Im playing thru SS:S and its not nearly as bad - I would definately recommend SS to anyone, especially if they already like TBS games.
  15. You can edit the address bar to view the forum threads... but posting is another matter. Just put this: forum.ufo-aftermath.com in place of the putfile addy. Hope they fix it soon~
