  1. Did I miss something here, like the part where they got the rights to X-Com/UFO? I already got in an argument on these forums with one of their devs when I said something about them ripping off Snakemen in their game, and now they apparently have a "UFOPEDIA", but they're going so far as to say it's official in the UFO line? Do you think we're idiots? (probably still going to buy it, but what the hell)
  2. I wouldn't say that Fallout ripped off X-Com (with the possible exception of Fallout Tactics). For us, it's different since it's not just a playstyle (like FPSes) or a concept (protecting from an alien invasion), but both. You can't say that Half-Life 2 is a ripoff of Doom, but if a FPS came out where you were a space marine attacking hellspawn on the Moon/Mars, people would cry that it was a Doom ripoff. Now what we have for the X-Com style games are games that are to-the-letter copies of X-Com. This one has a lot of elements, including snakemen, the base setup screen, the geosphere, equipment, etc. Do I decry it? No, I can't say that I do, especially since we'll never get another true X-Com game (and yes, it pains me to say that). Besides, from looking at their website you can see that they are bringing other elements to the table (advanced AI, true demolition of environment, etc). I think in the end that people call it like it is, and when this game gets reviewed it IS going to be brought up again. Face it, there are elements of X-Com that are DIRECTLY put into UFO:E. Will it hurt the game in the long run? Probably not. Will I buy it? Probably so. I remember seeing this project a while back, and it looked impressive then and looks impressive now. That's why I've had a link to it on my website for a year and a half. Just my 2 cents.
  3. I just downloaded it and checked it out. You guys are coming along nicely. I like the music, but it's very quiet. The interface looks good though. It'll be interesting to see the base building when it's implemented.
  4. Ah. I remember seeing more 3d renders from way back when and views of bases. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
  5. No offense, but a year later and they still only have a globe that has time progression that you can spin around? I'm interested in the project but this isn't much progress at all.
  6. I haven't seen the ending, but I'm assuming it's better than the ending for Apocalypse, yes? That, sir, is one of the worst endings I've seen for a videogame to date, although it still doesn't match 1941's "CONGRADULATIONS GAME OVER"
  7. Ok, let me quote myself again...
  8. Where'd you hear those rumours? Not really. Besides, the Genesis tactical engine never got beyond being a tech demo. There's also a few fan-made projects floating, and they all have a similar geoscape. For example, Project Xenocide: http://www.projectxenocide.com/
  9. If you get a capture mission and all the aliens are large, you have to disable all the aliens on the map in order to win.
  10. If you send a squad out to a base and the base is captured automatically while the squad is on route and you tell the chopper to retreat and abort the mission, you lose the base that you just captured. Anyone else hit this one? By the way, does ALTAR read this forum or should i post this over there too?
  11. That 'always show Squad loadout screen' option isn't nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. It kind of makes sense, although I wish they'd give an option to disable it.
  12. Interesting. I like that they toned down some of the alien weapons, but did they mess with the Alien Rocket Launchers at all? Personally, the damage isn't what bothers me. It's the reload speed. It's way too fast. Another thing. What does this mean? "The Squad window opens when a mission is accepted."
