  1. Anyone else notice the ending was exactly like Enforcer's?
  2. Fascinating hypothesis about the matrix, NKF. Maybe this is worth a topic of it's own.
  3. Okay, looks like I'm stuck with the base for the time being. Unrelated question, are missle evasion matrices worth it? Do they work vs. both terran and alien missles?
  4. Tired of staffing a base in a corner of Megaprimus where no dimension gates ever appear. Dismantled every facility. Hoped I would be able to then dismantle access lift and, thus, base. No dice.
  5. I support this man's claim of the existence of XCommand! I recall it also featured some sweet animated GIFs of walking Spitters. I don't recall the Shark stuff, though. Where is Byron these days anyway?
  6. Well hand me a rifle and pin a target on me! I'm going to be an X-COM rookie!
  7. So sad this thread died before I got to run down the ramp in a blaze of plasma fire.
  8. I sighed in disgust when he said they were overwhelmed by the directions you could go in UFO. That was the point, mate! That's one of the myriad things that made it a great game. Some of the "improvements" they made on the game to make it more tactical are interesting. But honestly I think it made it worse. Running from one pile of sandbags you duck beneath to another looks dull as dirt. And being able to command your squadmates is a cool addition in theory, but it doesn't look like they've implemented it well IMO.
  9. I bought the t-shirt off ebay a few years ago. Great purchase. I also adore the poster that came with the game. The rookie's guide is also an especially cool piece of memorabilia.
  10. You can always install Bootcamp and run Windows on your Mac. That's what I do for PC gaming.
  11. Mixed races never occur on Earth in EU. Once you get to the 2nd level of Cydonia there are Ethereals mixed with various terror units. But two primary races (ie not terror units) like Ethereals and Mutons are never, ever on the same level together.
  12. That's fantastic. Thank you, Knan.
  13. Mmm...so it looks like the sounds are a Windows thing. I think that makes sense. Thanks for the link and Blasterbomb tip, Bomb Bloke. And thanks for your answers as well, Pete.
  14. I'm thinking about buying the whole series on Gamersgate. I'm curious if the things that are annoying me about the versions I'm playing will be remedied. I'm playing an Enemy Unknown Collector's Edition from a old PC Gamer CD and a cracked version of my own original Apocalypse CD on DoxBox. Both on XP. 1. Are the X-Coms on Gamersgate easy, executable files or do you have to go through DOSBox? 2. I grew up playing UFO Defense on DOS installed with 3.5 floppies (just saying that makes me all warm and fuzzy). Each alien had its own, unique death noises. The Cryssalid in particular had this awesome high pitched metallic one. In my version of Enemy Unknown Collectors Edition they mostly all the same lame moan. Since Gamersgate has UFO Defense not EU, does it have the sounds I remember? Some of the music like the mission briefing screens' is also different. 3. Blasterbombs won't go up or down elevators. I assume this is a bug in the Collector's Edition. Is Gamergate's version free of this problem? 4. I've tweaked all the settings, but Apocalypse still lags a little on DosBox. Does Gamergate's versions run smoothly? Thanks for the replies. Gotta do something while waiting for Full Auto to get off his duff!
  15. I'm frothing at the mouth. Don't know if it's because I'm excited for my debut, or the black walking crabman behind me.
