Well, what exactly is the problem? If it is the speed of the game, or the garbled graphics at the starts there's answers for that in the other threads here in the support forum.
Animation speed isn't really that bad. That's just moving sprites, such as smoke, alien entertainment, fire and so on. Just static stuff. Which means it would look better if they ran at the right speed, but it wouldn't change gameplay anything.
Doesn't sound too bad.. but.. heh.. the story sound like a copy of the movie Long Kiss Goodnight with Geenda Davis and Samuel L Jackson tho. That's pretty much the exact story of that movie. Well, not the x-com commander part tho. If I recall correctly they even had an Angus in that movie.. [edit] Angus was from some other movie I think.. my bad
That was easy for me. UFO all the way. I haven't played TFTD much actually because I didn't like it the first time I tried it years back (yeah, I know I should've tried it more.. ) and I don't really like Apoc. Not sure why.. probably because I didn't like the real time and it took way too long in tb (especially the slums.. :hmmm:)
I mostly use them as any other guy unless there's a more riskful situation, then it's more likely I send forth a rookie. (Unless my higher ranking soldiers are the only ones with flying suits) Like when I need to scout out an area where I suspect there's aliens. Somtimes they tend to get left behind because of the lack of time units compared to their friends. At least I regret loosing an officer more than a rookie.
I don't remember exactly when I started playing UFO.. I know it was a long while ago, when it was somewhat new. Probably four or six or seven years ago. It was released 94 wasn't it? A friend of mine had it on his computer so that's where I started playing. Without a manual it looked real hard. I think I stopped playing it for a while after I tried it the first time because I didn't have the patience to learn it then. But when I finally did a while later I played it a lot.
Flash: That's odd.. I've got a 1.4 GHz and I have no speed issues what so ever any more. Are you using the Collector's edition of UFO? Because that's what the patch is for. But then again, I suppose it wouldn't fix anything if it was the dos version. Haven't tried it tho.
