  1. This may or may not be regarded a dirty trick, but the visual is greusom. I've occationally subdued and alien like a sectoid or whatever. And while it was unconcious drop a grenade on top of him. But I'd set the timer of a round or two. So of course when the alien wakes up and goes to walk away...BOOM!! Anyone get the number of that truck?
  2. And then there are those times you send in soldiers as lemmings. Just waiting for the bad guy(s) to run out TUs. Of course you run out of men. A true definition of disposable heros.
  3. (Sniff!) (Sniff!) Do I smell cheap people here?!? GO BUY THE GAME!! I've never understood how owning a computer makes paople so cheap. You bought a COMPUTER! and you can't afford a $20 GAME?!? That's the wonderful thing about PC games they'll always be $20 or less while console games are $60!!
  4. Thank you breakmage. NKF, is there an offical title to that 1.4 patch? I went to the downloads page and didn't see it on first glance. Thank you too. I'm assuming you download it and run the .exe and it will find X-Com itself and integrate together. What does NKF stand for?

Wow! Kewl! I think I just made a new friend
  6. Would someone be so kind as to give me the codes and page numbers form the instruction manual for the first game so I can play again. Its' been since '96-'97 since my last adventure and I'm going to be starting up again real soon. And, needless to say, I can't find my book. So if someone could help me, I know its asking a lot but, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Just out of curiosity, NKF, do you not agree with my particular strategy? Just wondering. Because I notice that you respond to just about everything on this site. Not that that is a bad thing.

    Patches

I've been looking for and can't find any patches for X-Com. Rather than having to download a CPU killer, or some other type of program to slow down a CPU, why not just have a patch that makes X-Com and its components compatable with windows '98 and on? If there are let me know. It would make things in a life a little easier. Rather than just playing the game on my old 486. If there is already a topic like this one out there so sorry.

I've found that the largest (four story) alien crafts carry high ranking 'leader' aliens the best. Of course alien bases carry 'leaders' more often then any vessel. As for the prevention of countries falling into alien hands the best strategy I've found is 'dummy' bases. I start off by building a main base somewhere in America or Europe, or at least somewhere centralized. Later on when funding permits, start building bases in other countries. Be sure they are evenly distributed around the globe. Build structures that will only be needed by the occupants of the base. Such as barracks, long range sensors, storage, and one hanger. Transfer soldiers to these facilities that have some good experience; obviously you don't want rookies guarding these bases. The long range sensors are self explanatory. If you build enough of these evenly around the globe they act as eyes to catch whatever vessel happens to fly by. Plus you'll need at least an interceptor to go after vessels and for regular scout missions too. DON'T THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!! Keep it all in these storage facilities around the world. You'll have an awesome arsenal, and you can sell it all for profits later if you are hard up for cash. If one base gets low on something you can always transfer stuff around too. I've used this strategy for some years now since, say 1995. I've found you only need maybe 2 or 3 extra 'dummy' bases at any given time. But, if time and money allow, build more. Just don't forget to equip them with the latest technology, and don't keep laser guided missile tanks as a defense in base...they're almost useless, too destructive.
  10. Well...lets see. There was the time that I walk into a barn and saw a grey bug eyed creep i front of a window, standing on a bail of hay. I unloaded on him and not only did he bite the big one but so did the alien behind the window that I couldn't see. But the real luckiest thing that ever happened to me in X- COM was when I had moved a solider on to a flat rooftop to do some scouting. I went to move him to the middle of the roof for better perspective but automatically stopped when he observed an alien. Having not enough time unit left to run, and the alien being only 6 or 7 grid squares away my only choice was to shoot it. Except I had only the laser guided missle launcher available. So I shot straight up in the air hooked it and had it detonate inback of the alien. So what happened? The aliens' toast, half the roof and building are totally destroyed all the way up to within just one grid square of my soldier, and he was undamaged! I just sat there and stared at the screen for, like two minutes, in complete awe. One more coumn of squares and that would have been one less guy to go home. Last one...real quick. Dropped an alien.....end of turn.....explosion goes off and sceams. Must have been ready to throw a plasma grenade, cause it not only vaporized his body, but three other aliens within his immediate area.
