  1. I always seem to get Rene and Paul Gauthier in X-Com. I once got Jose Cuervo in TFTD!!! I swear! It totally happened!!!
  2. I don't know...My captain got hit from a sonic rifle and it took half his health! A medikit saved him from worse...After I finish raiding this colony, he'll be out for a while recovering! As for lobstermen tactics... Right now I only have gauss weapon tech. So you have to hit them numerous times. On the plus side, numerous hits increase your soldiers firing accuracy, on the downside, it's damn near impossible to drop a lobsterman with gauss! So I usually have each soldier carry a magna pack explosive to rattle them up a bit, them move in close with the stun rods...It usually does the trick!
  3. I'm still only using human weapons and equipment. I've developed gauss tech, but I've been focusing all my research energy on armour development. I have underwater aqua armor, and I'm about 1/2 way through ion armour. I took out a colony the other day. I had 12 troopers, two with heavy gauss guns, 8 with gauss rifles and 2 with pistols and several magna pack explosives. Each of my other troopers carried the heavy explosives too. They see to be the only thing that'll make a dent in those lobstermen!! On the plus side, with the multiple hits it takes to bring them down, my soldiers are becoming decent marksmen!! I also had the two lightest armed troopers serve as scavengers on the topside part of the mission. They ferried artefacts from dead aliens to the Triton after each area was secured. That helps a lot on the money side!!! I think I made 4 million from the colony attack alone!!
  4. Calling the Khaki suits "armor" is pretty funny!!!!!!
  5. I move medi-kits a little further up the line in the tree...But that's just me. I try to make sure everyone comes home.
  6. Well, I just recently started playing TFTD for the first time in 8 years. I never finished the game before because the research tree was so bugged up it drove me crazy! But I'm giving it another shot, and I just wanted to say: I STILL LOVE THIS GAME!!!! The tactical battles are awesome! I'm about 3 months into the game, I've only developed the medi-kit, and all the Gauss technology except for Gauss Craft Cannon & Gauss Defense. I can't remember the difficulty level I'm playing - I think it's the middle one. Anyway, I am in the middle of an awesome shipping lane terror attack! After blowing up most of the top deck of the ship, trading shots with the Tasoths and their little brain pod cohorts, I finally defeated the aliens despite taking 2 casualities from my 10 person team! Whew! It was an awesome fight, and most of my aquanauts were getting low on ammunition...I forgot the shipping lane battles were 2 stagers....Gulp! Now my squad, with one dead, one wounded, is fighting below decks with the Tasoths, while trying to conserve Gauss rounds!! 2 more aquanauts have been incapacitated by the Tasoth's M.C. attacks, but I think I've turned the tide of the battle. I've just captured the lowest level, and we're working our way back to the top deck...Too bad I had to go to work!!! I just wanted to say that this game (and the original X-Com) are still one of the better games out there, despite their age and graphics!!!
  7. I've only been playing TFTD so far, and the attack subs just look like smaller versions of the Triton troop carrier. It can hold up to 6 soldiers. I've been using it so far, and I Love it! For some reason, smaller units seem to work better for me. I usually have 3 Gauss Riflers, 2 with Gas Cannons, and a Torpedo Launcher with a gauss pistol go out to mop up downed subs. It's been working well so far - I think I like the flexibility of a smaller team. You still need to use the Triton on Terror Missions and Shipping Lane attacks though. The other cool feature to this mod is that you can equip your Skyranger/Triton with one weapon system.
  8. I just added the mod that allows you to man your interceptor planes/subs with soldiers and equipment. I personally think it's a practical, cool mod. What do you think?

    UFO

I can't remember when it came out exactly, but it must have been '92 or '93. I just graduated from undergrad and I was living with five guys in an apartment. We made up a squad with all of our real names, and each took turns running missions. Once we had enough $$ to build other bases we each made our own base and managed squads at each site. It was pretty fun. I bought TFTD the day it came out...AND I STILL HAVEN"T FINISHED IT!!! But I plan to soon, since I recently found my copy. Interceptor didn't really impress me, and the premise behind Apocalypse didn't still any nostalgia, so I haven't played any of the X-Com incarnations since TFTD. Plus, law school and real life kinda got in the way...
  10. That definitely gives me a better idea of what to expect - Thanks!
  11. What are the main differences in the difficulty settings for UFO & TFTD? Are there more aliens per battle? Is research more difficult? Do the aliens infiltrate your financeers more quickly? More mind control attempts? Or all of the above?
  12. Hobbes - Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a try. I also checked out your site...A lot of very cool stuff! Congratulations!
  13. I've read a few notes about a mod out there that imports the X-Com TFTD terror site battlescapes into X-Com: UFO. Is this possible? If so, does anyone have a link to this mod? Or any interesting mods in general? I've played the original many times, and I'm looking for new content that might spice up the old game. Thanks! BW
