Endless Space

Boundless progress we find in Endless Space. This very special upcoming 4X space strategy game continues to impress with its steady growth towards completion.

Not only has the Beta landmark been reached (becoming available for anyone who pre-purchases the game through Steam) but we can attest to the fact that fan feedback continues indeed to be listened to and factored in as an integral part of the development process, ensuring the game remains accessible while retaining depth and flavour.

Evidence of this are the latest factions added: the Amoeba, the Sowers and the Pilgrims.

Here's a quick overview of them:

The Amoeba is the oldest known race in the Endless Space universe after the sentient mineral species known as the Harmony. Evolving from a very simple single-celled organism on a planet without a molten core and therefore no plate tectonics and little to no evolutionary adaptation, the Amoeba simply evolved slowly, over time, growing and developing their communal knowledge.

One of the few that were directly created by the Endless, The Sowers are a mechanical race. They were first engineered by the Virtual Endless as tools to develop the planet on which they had been placed – a barren rock lacking any sort of breathable atmosphere. It took them thousands of years to do so, during which time they created thousands more of themselves to assist in the operation.

The Pilgrims initially called themselves the Resistance; they were a group of academics, philosophers, and engineers from the United Empire who had fundamental issues with the weight of government in daily life and the intrusiveness of corporate security. Unauthorized explorers, feisty academics, and craftsmen notorious for violating EULA's and warranties, this group eventually banded together, took over a colonization expedition, and broke off to form their own society.

Other noteworthy recent additions are the updated multiplayer component, now offering a private multiplayer option, the improved AI and diplomacy, with factions behaving more in-character, more polished pirate ships and also language localization now encompassing English, French and German.

By all indications Endless Space is definitely a game to look out for, when it comes out in July.

That's a nice overview of how to get a good start in the game, and shows off some features I'm sure weren't in it last time I looked.

I'm interested to get back to the game when time permits, however as they say in Spiderman "with great computer comes great graphics card" (or something like that) and my new computer doesn't yet have a graphics card in it wink.png

A little heads-up: Rise of the Automatons, is Amplitude Studios' first add-on for Endless Space and is made available automatically through Steam as a free content update.

Endless Space: Rise of the Automatons features addition of the new Automatons custom faction (thanks to the community hero 'Panzer'), GUI changes such as a new Trade Route panel and Empire Management screen, improved hero management and AI, and various fixes, amendments and changes.

Full change log here.
