Heartening news for strategy gamers arise from the announcement of Panzer Corps, a game said to be following in the footsteps of SSI's venerable Panzer General series.

Set to cover the most significant battles of WWII, it will feature a branching campaign that will unfold differently depending on how you tackle challenges, so including some 'what-if' scenarios based on your actions.

All major nations will be featured, with some 400 unit types overall, each with its own abilities. As you progress surviving units under your command will gain more experience and can also be upgraded as newer technologies emerge.

Engines set to start on March 2011.

Now that actually does look good.

Very derivative of SSI's Generals games, but I can forgive that if it's as good.

Panzer Corps: Operation Sea Lion is (...) focused on one of the most famous what if scenarios of the Second World War: the cancelled (but planned) German invasion of the British Isles, which was the plan to put an end to the war on the Western Front and to force the remnants of the Commonwealth forces around the World to surrender.

The campaign can be started with the core force from DLC 40, so you can begin the invasion of England with the core forces that emerged victorious in France. Alternatively players can start with a preset core force.

Panzer Corps' Operation Sea Lion expansion has so now been announced.

Panzer Corps: U.S. Corps has now been revealed:

Quote

Despite the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbour, Europe had been considered the main front by the United States from the beginning of the war. Here, Great Britain is increasingly isolated and the Soviet Union has been driven back, losing millions of men and tanks in the effort to gain time.

Germany is close to winning the War, and the Wehrmacht is the arbiter in the Old Continent. Only the opening of a new front could give a chance to the Allies to reverse the tide!

Start with brave but inexperienced "rookies" in the sands of North Africa, and lead them through the entire Western Front! Learn how to wisely employ your troops to save your veterans for the next battles!

Panzer Corps: US Corps is composed of three different DLCs, each one with its unique theatre of operations and scenarios,  but all linked in a colossal branching campaign!

For further details and beta testing opportunity check out the official announcement here.
