Agent face mod for Apocalypse

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just finished creating a mod, and thought I would share it with the community that I have taken so much from. If you like it, please let me know. I am rather meticulous, so if you like MMA (UFC, etc), I am sure you will like this.

It is still pending approval on the files section (which I hear can take some time), so in the meantime, you can get it here.

Abbreviated Description

A collection of the great (and not so great) current and past mixed martial arts fighters that have made a name for themselves over the past 17 years.

Androids and hybrids are identifiable by their respective matching backgrounds and (optional) organization logos, as well as common themes in the pictures.

There are not many females that people would be familiar with, so I included only a few of the most famous ones. If your male fighter occasionally screams like a girl, sorry. The sex attributed to each slot cannot be changed, and unless you want 35 female fighters, you are out of luck.

Includes easy renaming through XED

I have also created a file to help create your own patch/images, available here:

Not necessarily, I usually try to check for pending files at least a couple times a week, but this varies with my workload here - sometimes it's more, sometimes less. Can't say how often the other admins check though. Anyhow, your file can be found here. ;)

I read your readme (the text version is actually better than the .rtf because you formatted everything to be a certain line width, not variable) and Hobbes and myself both have the Tinseltown mod on our computers. I can't say for sure where I found the mod this time around, but the last time XCommand was still up I had the foresight to download everything there. I'm trying to find some time to add some more files to the files section, so it might be pretty soon. :)

Yeah, I have Tinseltown as well, but as I said in the readme, I'm not sure where to get it now. As for the .txt version being better than the .rtf readme... I made the assumption people would be using Wordpad, because it comes with Windows. I have since looked at it with Microsoft Word Viewer, and I see what you mean. Perhaps I should reformat it. What did you view it with?

Anyway, there are bound to be a few things I did not have foresight with. Please let me know if there is anything else you notice that should have been done better. Off hand the only thing I know of is that the pictures show up scrambled looking on the agent screen in XED. However, in game, and in the rest of XED, they seem to show fine.

Here are a few examples, on Hobbes' request. I looked, but did not see how to add these to the files section as a preview (without reloading the whole thing).

Brock Lesnar as an android, Andrei Arlovski the hybrid, Royce Gracie, and Kazushi Sakuraba.

Microsoft Office Word 2003. Suppose word viewer should be close enough to get an idea of what I see. It didn't occur to me to open the .rtf file with wordpad because MS Word was the preferred choice listed. Now that I think of it, rtf stands for rich text format and that should be opened with wordpad for best results. Ah, hindsight. :)

As long as everything shows up properly in-game I think you'll be ok. ;)

Did you want to add those pics as screenshots? If so, only admins can add them after the file has been uploaded. Say the word and I'll add them. :)

Actually, I believe all of the android pictures were done using Terminators except for Anderson Silva, who IS a borg. I couldn't seem to make the Terminator thing work for him without spending a lot more time than I had intended, and I wanted some variety. I cannot say with certainty as I did not create the Brock Lesnar and Fedor Emelianenko pictures (they are floating around the web). I created GSP, Anderson Silva, and Lyoto Machida.

Here are a couple more to fill out the row: Tim Sylvia (hybrid) and Kimbo Slice

Thanks again, Zombie

OK, looks like I have found a problem. I had noticed garbled graphics on the pictures in one section of XED, and did not know why, since it did not show garbled elsewhere in XED, or in game. I am not yet sure why, but the pictures are showing garbled in the cityscape. Both the small (icons) and large (photos) pictures show fine in the base and buildings section of the game, though. I'll see if I can figure out the problem.

Problem fixed. While I was at it, I made lots of changes. A few of the pictures have been changed entirely and they are ALL much better looking now. While the icons have to be grayscale, the photos are now in color. Since nobody else has done that before, I included a set of grayscale photos just in case someone experiences a problem. I reformatted the readme so that it should be more legible in all viewers. I have also made a more accurate and detailed help for creating your own patch, so in the process I seperated it into a different .zip file.

Once an admin (Zombie?) throws them up in the files section, I will post links to them here. Hopefully he will be kind enough to delete the old version since it was easier for me to just add a new one. :D

In the meantime, see the link I posted originally.

Thanks Zombie. You sure keep on top of things around here. :D

There are a couple pictures that didn't load when I went there, though. I noticed the same thing on the older version's download page. Its top left and bottom right. My pictures are all formatted the same, so... any ideas?

Also, just wanted to include a link to the file I made to help others who are looking to make a patch like this: https://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/index.php?dlid=760

Great work, I'm not a fan of those guys but it looks fun to use those images.

How hard is it to change the pictures on the files? I have a few ideas that might be interesting to have...

Well, to change the pallette and import them is a piece of cake. A few minutes time once you know how to do it. It's getting the right pictures, cropping to the face, and particularly making little tweaks such as color balance, contrast/brightness, and sharpening the photos, that can take considerable time.

Out of curiosity, what are your ideas? I wouldn't want to take on another project like this at the moment, but I wouldn't mind lending my assistance if you want it.

I try to. :)

Not sure what the problem is. At first I thought it was something on my end which was to blame, but if you see it too there must be a bug in the system. We talked about upgrading to the new-ish version of the files software but from the limiting testing I did on it, it seemed like the same quirks were present. Guess we'll have to live with it for now. :D

I was checking the pictures and the marine squad of Aliens came to my mind. But after I wrote that question I realized that it wouldn't be easy to find mug shots of all of them.

Another nice idea could be to import the faces from Enemy Unknown/TFTD.

They all have girly screams to me regardless of their gender ;) I miss the chilling screams from UFO :D

Could you upload a pic of your mod's faces?

You know, the game stores all of its sound effects as individual raw audio files. In fact, there are a lot of sound effects in the game that aren't even used. We've had cosmetic mods, so it's only a matter of time before we get a sound-effects mod too.

Strangely enough, with the number of downloads of the files, nobody has complained to me about certain problems with the pictures, which I noticed. In any case, both files have been updated. I have made a few minor functional changes, such as making the organization logos optional, and optional color photos for the icons. Mostly however, you will want to update any previous version you downloaded so that the pictures display correctly on all screens (and the instructions on the Patchmaker file are changed to reflect this). Please let me know if you find something I missed. Thanks
