Since the relase of AL is very close i decided to open up a new topic.
As discussed in other threads id like you to introduce the first preview on a weapon modification
for UFO Afterlight called the 21CW mod. The goal is to implement mankinds most advanced most futuristic real weaponry for our martian decendants and give the player more diversity and more firepower.

Although there is no functional tool to implement new models yet, there are already steps taken
and im quite confident that such tools will be aviable soon. Now lets see what this is all about:

The current mod team consist of me (TYR) and Blackalmaz. We have been participating on creating
the most sucessful mod for UFO Aftermath called the weaponcombo mod.
I have already started modeling and completed 3 meshes so far, and already textured as seen below.

The first goal is to create the models for the following weapons and texture them so implemention into game
is possible asap theres a proper tool aviable. The current list is as follows:

XM25 grenade launcher --           (modeled) (textured)
calico m100 automatic pistol --    (modeled) (textured)
Type95 Assaultrifle --                 (modeled) (textured)
Steyr Aug Assault rifle --
AICW - (Advanced version of the AUG) --
FN2000 Assaultrifle --
Jackhammer Shotgun --             (modeled)
Xm109 --
IWS2000 --

This is my current list, feel free to suggest more, and if possibly provide some photographs so i dont have to spend too much time on searching for them.

Do you wish to participate in this mod ?

Do you plan to make a mod on your own ?

If so feel free to contact me via pm or msn/email viewable in my details.
I would always like to welcome people who wish to participate in modding UFO Afterlight,
and probably we will be able to launch a large scale modification soon. Any help is welcome
either if you do scripting, modeling, texturing, writing background infos it will all come in handy
once the modtools are ready.

Could you perhaps consider implementing a modular weapons system(s) like this?
Do keep up the good work, TYR.
And the gun to rule them all might find it's way as well: Link.

Well the Xm25 is actually a part of this weaponsystem, they split the OICW system up into the xm8 and the xm25 as they where unable to reach weightgoals and other troubles. The planned Fn2000 and AICW are modular weapon systems, however im not sure if such a weapon is makable, because they will use 2 different types of ammo (at the same time) and i do not know if AL will support this feature.

Thanks, i will try to  :(

Yes the "M82" is surely a nice thingy to have, ill add it to the list. But have you already seen thisPosted Imageone ?  :(

IF it comes to firepower this is the most powerful rifle ever created it can pierce any modern APC 2 times, its called iws2000, in real its just a prototype though.

*Drools heavily* A reticulan doesn't stand a chance....
Your mod made me look around the web for some research and I came across the good old Discovery Channel that actually has made a series of showcasing some of the weapons systems of the 21st century.
There are videos clips too  :(

I'll check it out, they also link to a website Have a look on their videos about the quadrogun mini tank drone, i think the vehicles like this in AL where probably inspired by it.
And if possible i will mod that little devil in  :(

Metalstorm is indeed an interesting concept. Especially the 9 mm version as well as the 'mortar battery' version.

Okay, heres another one:

A chinese type95 assault rifle.
It was actually not on the list but i wanted to try a different modeling technique and it was just perfect
for it. The result is well okay, it does have much more vertiges and the shape is a whole step more accurate. I quit modeling it at some lets say raw build because it was really complex and disturbing to model it further, besides even this grade of detail is probably nonsense. Thanks to the superior texture i have for this one it looks actually much better than my other ones  :(

Excellent! This looks very good as you say, due to a very nicely detailed texture. Cool weapon too!

Heres a first ingame screenshot of a Type 95 assault rifle!

Posted Image

The model is not yet textured and the positioning will need some correction, but in general it works!  :(
probably there should be a limitation of such weapons to light suits, as they would be impossible to handle with such thick gloves imho.

EDIT:

An here i prodly present the first textured modded weapon ingame  :D

I still have to replace the bump, spec and reflectionmapping, but thats rather polishing work,
also the correct position of the weapon in the hands of our combatants is abit of trial error, but thats
really just cosmetic stuff. The next thing to figure out is how to properly add weaponinfos and images
for ammo/weapon in the equipmentwindow + the research options, i do hope to get some help there, since im not too familiar with this  :(

Seesh thats just a first preview  :(, i will adjust everything as soon as i figured out the rest with the textfiles of AL. changing the size of the model isnt really a big deal, the problem is to adjust them to the game, because the original game models are all somewhat bulky, take the fn2000 for example. It would probably make sense to adjust the new ones to this style. I will consult the web databases on weapon dimensions to though and then see how they work ingame.

If you like you can dig into the textfiles, i need to figure out what must be added, like the description, production of items, research and so on.

The game may not be out in Australia yet, but the first preview version of 21CW is already out  :(
The Updated File is downloadable here: http://www.mediafire.com/?dymk3jd1gjk

It does change add the following things:

Adds a new ancient rifle model (Type 95) which is producable as soon as you research basic firearms.

Enables the ability to produce FN2000, Colt, Pistol, and their ammo as soon as you research basic firearms.

Please tell me what you think
