Zombie's Ultimate X-COM Collection

Julian Gollop?

I believe he mentioned in an interview a few years back that all he had was some alien sprites. That's the code part at least. I don't recall if the interviewer mentioned anything about promo items, but I kinda doubt he has much. ;)

It's tough to get a hold of him though. I believed one of us (maybe Slaughter?) tried to ask him a question a few years back and no replies. To be honest, I'd probably have better luck with Steve Goss, and I know he has some stuff, though he might not be willing to release the material or sell it. The person I'd really want to ask is Dave Ellis, you just know he has tons of Interceptor stuff (and I'd imagine Genesis as well)! smile.png

Edit: added a Signed TFTD Manual by Steve Goss. :P

Sorry for the lack of activity, work got in the way as did RL, but I'm back. smile.png

Didn't have a lot of time to add much today, but I was able to add an Alliance section to the page and put up two pics of an Alliance poster. As I mentioned in the description, you could only get this poster out of the X-COM Collector's Edition box in which case they were folded. I was very fortunate and was able to secure about 10-11 (not sure of the exact amount offhand) of these which were unfolded and just rolled up instead. Those were originally acquired by Dave Ellis so mega rare and holds a pedigree too. yes.gif

Silencer reported an issue with the promotional items page a while ago. I looked at the code and ran it through a HTML validator a couple times but couldn't find anything seriously wrong with it. My id's for the anchor links within the page might be to blame so I'll try removing them next. (There's a chunk of space between the title of the Silent Service mug and the table below). wink.png

It seems as though the page fixed itself, as I'm not seeing any strange spacing anymore. Is it fine for everyone else as well? Linky.

What browser are you using silencer? Chrome? The page looks fine to me in Firefox. Would you mind hitting Crtl+F5 a few times to see if that clears it out? dntknw.gif

Anyone else seeing issues with the page? Please take a few seconds and check for me, k? wink.png

Tried it both Firefox and Chrome. It looks fine in Firefox but in Chrome I'm getting the same issue with the footer. At least, not all the time and not just on this page. It seems to happen at random. I had it in the middle of the page when I went to Game Compilations at one time, then after re-navigating to the same page it showed up at the bottom as normal.

Apparently all these are Russian versions, as found here. ohmy.png

I can confirm that in Firefox it looks ok, but FF lost his supremacy. Chrome,Opera,Safari has the same issues. And CTRL+F5 did not work.

I purchased another MicroProse Wings pin (red center) from France recently and got it in the mail today, so that makes 3 of that type which I own. Pretty incredible that I haven't ever seen this type of pin before, and now all of a sudden they are coming out of the woodwork. It's highly doubtful that this type of pin is a recent aftermarket production either, as a company would really have to put a lot of money into a run of these. Why? Well, the stamping or pouring of the metal is just perfect, you can even see the structure of the feathers, and also the MicroProse lettering and stars are clean and crisp within the red porcelain inset. I have quite a bit of experience grading coins under my belt so I'd have to say that two of these pins are BU MS-67+, while the third is BU MS-63 - MS-64... the reason being that the wings aren't as shiny as they could be and the stars, lettering and circle are a little "flat" in some areas. I doubt it was ever worn, must've been the end of the production run and the die was seeing some age. Also interesting is that the clasp on the back of this last pin was gold instead of silver. Not sure why it's different, maybe the seller mixed up clasps from a different pin. wink.png

Oh, and look, I found a pic of a Russian PSX version of X-COM: UFO Defense

It must be a very late creation as it borrows the background of the Apocalypse cover art. smile.png

That's a lot of Russian memorabilia, comrade. hunter.gif Do you ever get a hold of that X-COM: Apocalypse Popper Action figure? I searched the forum but I didn't see a yes or no. Anyway, I was cleaning out my basement (spring cleaning) and found the popper in the original package. I completely forgot about it.

Yep. Just so you are aware though, the pictures/scans I posted here of the Russian stuff I don't actually own. Getting those would be nearly impossible. :(

You bet, check out the promotional items page. My figurine was owned by Dave Ellis at one time. :P By the way, could you get me a pic of the packaging?

Uh no actually, due to my procrastination the figurine is now missing. Now I tore the house down (not literally), Inquisitioned the family and when I sat down from moving boxes all day. I remembered my wife was throwing away boxes as well as moving them. So no. I will describe it until it's found. The box was about 5x5 w/h, had a plastic shield/bubble for viewing. Believe the box was turquoise and pink like it's skin. That's all I can remember, maybe something about microprose and mythos games.

dntknw.gif I will be berating my dog, mailman, and garbageman next.

Thanks, the description is pretty helpful at least. Really hope you find it though. *fingers crossed* search.gif

I just added a MicroProse Squadron patch to my Promotional Items page. This is a recent aftermarket creation just like the X·COM patch is, except this one has the iron-on coating on the back like it's supposed to. Most likely both of these patches are based off of my scans of the pins on the page. Not sure how the seller is expecting to make money on something like this due to it not being original, but more power to ya! It's certainly neat. wink.png

I'd also like to mention that I will be adding more promo items to the page as time permits (from my bulk purchase a while back). There's still so much more that needs to be added! Some of these are really quite amazing! yes.gif

So how is my search for game versions going? Spectacular! I just made two purchases: another Italian Apocalypse version (it looks similar to the CD-ROM Classic Collection except it's called Legends Collection 2 and is red) and the cornerstone to my UFO:EU versions: an Italian PSX EU version! I've never seen this one even mentioned anywhere and you'll see it here first so stay tuned! thumbsup.gif Both are super rare and (quite befittingly) have price tags to match. As you can imagine, most of the cost goes into shipping (Italian shipping costs are traditionally crazy expensive and these are no exception). secret.gif

Coming soon, a German PSX EU version too! When it rains, it pours! laugh.png

In all my 9 years of collecting, I've never seen either of these so they are super rare. It's been a memorable week of collecting, that's for sure! yes.gif

I hope it was cheap, too!

Not exactly... sad.png The seller did have offers enabled which allowed me to shave a few $ off the final price. Shipping was dirt cheap though. 3.95 Eur to US is unreal. smile.png

I wonder how many more are there, really...

Lots. tongue.png

Look a few posts back at all the Russian versions I posted pics to. There is an Apoc Russian version I might be able to get my hands on sometime. Then there is a Brazilian EU version and a budget variety from the Netherlands which I've only seen pics of. I know for a fact that there are more Polish versions out there - but nobody ever posts that stuff for sale. My recent searches of "X-COM" on eBay uncovered a German compilation and a German budget release. And just look at the three versions I purchased over the last couple weeks... I didn't know they even existed. There's always going to be more, but I made a pretty good dent in it so far! grin.gif
