AM Plot Summary

Hey guys :)

I plan to start playing UFO:AS, but i kind of forgot some stuff that happened in UFO:AM. I read some of the theories and stuff about dreamland files, old greys or even walkthtoughs and etc. I know basically what happened ( the offer, biomass etc. ), but i don't want to miss out on some points when playing UFO:AS. Is there some king of plot summary of UFO:AM available on the internet? Or could you write a short story what happened in the game. I will be very thankful. :D

Sorry it's been a few days. What follows is an account of the plot in UFO: Aftermath. I haven't given any dates because plotline developments are triggered by how well you are doing and not the in-game date. There are no Aftershock spoilers, so the twists in the storyline will remain surprising.

On May 25th 2004, a large alien spaceship was detected entering Earth's atmosphere. It ignored all communication attempts, and released several clouds of spores into the atmosphere before disappearing. These spores multiplied quickly and blocked out the sunlight. On June 1st, the spores rained down on the planet, killing most of humanity as well as most animal and plant life. The aliens launched conventional attacks on several facilities across the world, seemingly at random, but for the most part they were happy to let the spores do their work.

The spores broke down over the next couple of weeks, and the people who had survived the disaster by hiding in air-tight buildings emerged to find a ruined world populated by strange mutated creatures called transgenants. These transgenants were hostile to the human survivors and would usually attack on sight.

Over the next few months, the survivors began to band together for mutual protection against transgenant and alien attacks. Towards the end of 2004, one group took over two old military bases as a foundation for uniting the remnants of humanity under a new government called the Council of Earth. Its military forces were spearheaded by a new airborne elite infantry squad called Phoenix Company.

Although frequently outnumbered and outgunned in the first chaotic weeks of 2005, Phoenix Company managed to win a series of battles against the transgenants, expanding the territory controlled by the Council of Earth. Regular Council forces took on missions that Phoenix Company was too busy to deal with; on the whole they were less successful, but they occasionally pulled off spectacular victories.

Early in January, Council scientists and engineers worked out how to modify ground radar systems in order to detect and intercept UFOs. After Phoenix Company started getting sent out to secure UFOs after they had been shot down, it was realised that the aliens were the 'Greys' of popular culture. The Council of Earth realised that there was something in the old Area-51 conspiracy theories and sent Phoenix Company out to inspect the base and recover the files stored there, which they managed to do after a fierce fight with some alien soldiers.

The Area-51 files revealed that the USA was one of several national governments that had been in secret contact with the aliens, who called themselves Reticulans, for decades in what was referred to as the "Dreamland Project". They also contained useful information on the environmental requirements of the Reticulans - it was now possible to keep a Reticulan prisoner alive long enough to interrogate him.

A few weeks later, the Council of Earth discovered a second Dreamland Project base in Russia, and despatched Phoenix Company to secure the base. The files that were obtained from the base provided Council scientists with a number of insights into Reticulan technology.

Meanwhile, satellite images were showing that strange alien vegetation was rapidly growing in several parts of the world. This Biomass was being deliberately by the UFOs, so it was clear that the attack on Earth was not a random act of destruction. Further research into the Biomass and the transgenants revealed that the Reticulans were planning to cover the world with the Biomass in order to create a super computer. Eventually, Council scientists learned how to use Reticulan psionic technology to build Biomass repulsor bases to foil the Reticulan plans.

Another revelation was that the Reticulan invaders were a rebel faction of their race and that the mainstream Reticulans, called the Old Greys, were violently opposed to the attack on Earth, and had been the targets of the conventional attacks launched by the rebels during the Fall. The surviving Old Greys on Earth promised that their empire had already despatched a fleet to destroy the rebels. Unfortunately, the fleet would take some years to arrive as the Reticulans normally use a network of quantum portals to travel between solar systems, and the quantum portal in our solar system was destroyed by the rebels to slow down their pursuers.

A study of Reticulan communication patterns revealed that their command centre was on the far side of the moon. The Council decided to capture a Reticulan battleship, refit it and then use it to transport Phoenix Company to the lunar base for a final showdown.

Before the final assault could be launched, the Reticulans contacted the Council of Earth and offered a power sharing agreement in return for an end to the fighting. Surprisingly, the Council accepted the offer and the Reticulans built two space stations to house the human and Reticulan survivors while they completed their experiment. Then something went wrong...
