XCom 6 : New Beginnings

Greets and thanks for checking out this topic, even if you're just here to satisfy your curiosity!

 

This is, as the title says, an overview of XCom6, currently Project Colonisation. We currently consist of approximately 30 members of varying activity and in very simple terms we are working to bring XCom back to life!

 

This project is not something new, we've all been working at it for several years now but unfortunately we all have certain commitments that have slowed down progress repeatedly.

 

We're currently working from several different websites, all of which have news, files and numerous discussions on the game itself and progress so far. Project Colonisation was our initial attempt at an official website and although it is currently not being updated we are hoping to begin using it again soon. GotDotNet is our mane file holding site and also where most of the development discussion has taken place so far. It continues to be used on a day to day bases for file storage and continuing discussions. Bulma is our project leader here at GotDotNet.

 

XCom 6 is an attempt to not only continue the XCom series with yet another sequel but also to recapture the perfection of Enemy Unknown and Terror From The Deep. Games that are younger than many people who play them I would suggest but games that even today's youth can see the joy in playing. The endless replayability and fantastically believable stories have never been matched by another franchise yet and the fact that these old games remain so popular when the are already so dated is a testament to the XCom brand!

 

XCom 6 is not another sequel to the games so far, we felt that 4 alien wars in one century was probably quite enough... Instead, project colonisation is a prequel to all of the existing titles by very many years! With this title we are attempting to answer all of the questions that any XCom fans have ever asked. Why are the aliens so interested in Earth? Where did T'Leth come from? Who exactly did build the pyramids? And many many more that people won't even realise they're wondering until they find them answered!

 

We are not attempting to branch into a new genre and XCom 6 is not a flight simulator or a first person shooter. It is a turn based strategy game, true to the originals. It will feature the best parts of all the XCom games we know and love. Base construction, research and development, global economy and guerrila strategy. All in an attempt to defeat the alien menace that we now know so well for the first time in history!

 

Currently development is good. We're working on a geoscape which can be seen in a very early format in its own thread here in the Colonisation forums. The battlescape programming is almost complete and a downloadable and playable version of this part of the game is already available at GotDotNet. The 3D and 2D art for the project is in need of serious development as virtually no work has been done in these departments as of yet but this is not top priority currently. Storyboarding, including the in game plot, ufopedia entries, alien lifeforms, concept weaponry and research trees are all at a very late stage of development and some documents featuring a glimpse of what is to come in this department can also be downloaded from GotDotNet.
