Question about Difficulty levels

What does the difficulty levels influence? I'm playing thorugh on normal currently. I found it somewhat difficult in the earlier stages because my soldiers would be out wounded SO long after missions. Now they they are better overall, and have a maxed trained medic, it seems too easy.

Sadly, that post you referred to doesn't exist anymore (well, 7 years have passed). And I can't find any specific information on the difference between difficulty levels.

Can anyone point me to such information?
