As this site seems to be less shady that a similar abandonware site, I'll leave it for now. Will discuss this with the other staff and see what they think.

Basically, this group called ESA, who monitor the vast majority of video game trademarks "raid" this site every few months to check they're not doing anything illegal, that's why on protected games there's a logo which shows "ESA" and stops you from downloading it.
Xcom has been there for quite a long time, and has constantly been the number 1 download, so they can't have missed it, thus one can assume it's not illegal.

It's not abandonware, though.  Atari still have the intellectual rights.

You are probably right Solitaire, but we do not wish to take any chances yet. Therefore we'll only link to freeware here. I think abandonware should be embraced by the publishers, as it promotes their franchises, but until it is we'll not link to it. Well, with the exception of the UFO download on Fileplanet that is ;)

Anyway, thanks for the link, but I'll remove it for now.

What's that you say, Slaughter?  You can download X-Com from FilePlanet?

No, Slaughter.  I'm not trying to annoy you, I'm infantile enough to think this will annoy a few other people though.  So I'm being blatant about it.

In the meantime, X-Com is still available to BUY on eBay.  I've just searched for X-Com within the PC games category on ebay.co.uk, and I found six items.

What the??

Anywho, of course X-COM:UFO is abondware but the others are certainly not.. If I walked into my local Harvey Norman shop I would expect to see it... maybe...

But.. UFO can be bought in those boxes with the silly discount publisher name!
"The Stun Grenade can be used to stun targets within a small area for a brief time. Larger Aliens may need weakening before they can be stunned."

Thanks for the heads up shagpuss, but we've decided not to allow links to the abandonware sites for now. It is kind of a "grey zone" of the law.
