Weapon Range Is Silly!

After playing the game for some time there is one thing that ennoys the hell out of me. Effective range max range are to LOW! Ussing an asullt rifle stading hitting a traget that is 100m away the size of a avarage persson is EASY! And how do i know this. I have done military service for real in the swedish army and ffs 100m whit a (HK G6 known as the AK4 in sweden and whit the newer vertion of the gun don't know it's name but its 5.56cal) is childes play..even i the worst marksman in the platton misses at 50m.. 6h at the targeting range and u will hit any target that are standing upp to 200m in 2-4 shoots. and at ranges below 50m whit the 5.56 the recommending fireing mode was full auto u can't miss at 50m you must be blind and unabel to move to miss a humansized object at 50m. but in game the range for tha hk g6 is 35m... and for bust 21m.. at 21m i wold be thinking mouning my bayonet an gooing meelee on tha enemy this is silly. Not even your old severly handicaped grandmother can miss at 21m.AN not even raking the psg in to accunt.. as my Lt said: Using the psg 90 the problem is not to hit the enemy at 800m it's to see him at all).. 78m whit a sniper rifle.. that is even more silly..

I'm almost glad that one can't go into the buildings.. since in RL a HK g6 will go tru 70cm of solid wood. After 3-6 shoot us will have "eaten" your way tru a 20cm brick wall it at ->| angel it hits true 3mm of metal armur. I doubt this wold have been taken in to accunt when doing the house fighting (it has never been yet in no game can u shoot tru walls properly!)

Have u seen the hole in an 30cm thick metal armour "plate" a avarage one shoot bazzoka dose..i have.. i can fit my head thru there..

But i understand why this is so .. the maps size must be *4 if not more if the weapon had true ranges..

The only true ranges is probably the "range" of hand grenades

BUT if we ignore these obivuse design flaws the game and the fact that it's NOT trunbased and there in no $$$ element and manufaturing of items takes forever and there is no base building/design part and it's name do not contain the word x-com the game ROCKS!

I guess there are always realism/playability/implementation tradeoffs.

I guess such things as lighting conditions, visibility, movement, etc might not be obvious to the "player". We pause the game and it looks like everything is still, and we have line of sight, but one might offer that the shortened ranges represent the difficulties of hitting moving dodging targets from a distance in limited light etc...

Is there some way within the game to determine the distance of a target?

Ya, there is a simple way to make the distance determination. It the soldier does not have good observation, then when you target somthing, they can not see it, nor shoot at it, without being closer. A better soldier with excellent or whatever observation will be able to target something further away, then the probability of hitting it still remains, as that gets better, the closer the target gets.

Get sniper rifles, and shoot from far away, or use a different weapon that has better range. It all those numbers when looking up the weapon in the Glossary, or from the equipment screen.

Some of those aliens can shoot from a long way away also. Once you get their weapons, the ranges are comparable. Just looks shorter on the map, but remember those city blocks are actually long blocks, where you have to stop every few feet of the way.

The player can see the map. The squaddies can not, and all the stats reflect on how they will perform. Get ol' (Country Joe) Zeke (whatever his name is) or Joan, and they will always be able to hit targets with a sniper rifle from further away, then other squaddies.

The Squaddie that says:

I read ya!

Copy!

That one!

Good ol' boy squaddie!
