Master Sergeant (now presumably a rookie again, heh) Jacob Mosovich
Callsign: Jake the Snake
Did one tour with regular US army, then went SpecOps, making several tours in 'nam, including one eventful mission swimming his ass deep upriver to rescue a downed aviator. Supposedly died in the early eighties in an automotive accident. In which the body was too badly burnt for a definite ID, of course.
Eventually ended up being recruited into governmental black-ops to do various dangerous, illegal, or morally dubious (yep) tasks in locales around the world. Anything from assassination, retrieval of sensitive items/info/people, pathfinding ops, and so forth....
He considered himself a seasoned veteran, a natural born warrior, and thought he'd seen everything. But when an orbiting RORSAT picked up the image of a passing flight of UFOs (and was promptly shot down), his unit was dispatched to make retrieval. When the rest of his squad was wiped out by sectoids, and had a contact of his check out the retrieved sattellite data, his career was effectively over due to both his grievous injuries and the MiBs interest in covering up the truth. The only reson they didn't quitely kill him in his hospital bed was probably because he might be useful again someday.
When some aging ex-CIA cowboy turned up to make him an offer, he knew that day had come. He spent some time as a field intelligence man for X-INV, when they needed dirty work done, before being bounced onto an active XCOM team on his request.
Diminutive but well built, he is 5"7 of lean muscle. Depending on which records you look at, he's aged in his mid-to-late forties. Bald, with stern, angular features, and plasma burns down the left side of his face/upper body, along with various other scars from shrapnel and such. A notable scar part way across his throat.
He's essentially a good guy to have on your side, a consummate professional....and though he has some good stories and plenty of wisdom for the kids, he isn't too sociable. Pretty cold, distant even. Partly because he's seen a lot of teammates meet a grisly end, and frankly doesn't expect much different when the plasma starts to fly. Partly because of his black-ops past.....he's done a few things that aren't very nice. Don't expect him to be squeamish about having to torture someone. He's a bit grim, this one.
He's both physically and mentally scarred, and is singularly focused on settling his hash with ET.
As fitting with his background, he's a good outdoorsman, equally skilled with most weaponry (though while open to new developments, he's a bit of a traditionalist) though is pretty crap with anything psi-related. Having said that, he'd rather eat a bullet than let himself be used against his unit. He'd probably be a good pointman, or something.
Strength: good for melee, but limited carrying capacity
Stamina: good, though let down by his injuries.
Intelligence: generally good, and well spoken, though don't expect much small talk.
Bravery: unflinching in combat, but he has issues off the pitch. You could say he's approaching "burnt-out".
Psi: Pretty poor. He isn't likely to frag any team-mates, but you'd have a hard time finding out since he hasn't been tested yet, and is a bit phobic about anything Psi.
Controller: um, me I guess, though feel free to run with him. All this background is here for a reason.
