It has rules for it, but we're not exactly following them since it's more fun to blow things up utterly and still salvage things... :P

We're basically just having lightly damaged things coming back next game, heavier damage takes a game or two and things that went out to criticals and blew up, are gone. This past game, we had nothing to send because of that last battle taking out everything, so it was mostly vehicles fighting. :P

"HQ, this is Rover. We've got one of the downed mechs up and walking."

"Proceed to base, we're sending in salvage rigs to cart the rest back home"

YOtsagb.jpg

"Crab's up, and the armor is repaired, but she's got a rookie pilot and a gimpy leg"

"Roger, escort her in!"

Mxu3UCL.jpg

"Base, I'm picking up 2 fast movers up ahead, that our rigs?"

"Neg, Rover, investigate that!"

"Base! That Commando is back and he's brought company!"

"Got the Commando and a Locust, moving in fast!"

A12l5rQ.jpg

*PEW!* "Just had a laser hit the hill next to me, that Locust is moving in on us!"

"Sir! Picking up 2 more sigs!"

"MY GOD!"

YYNZkFG.jpg

"Base, assault forces inbound!"

"An Awesome and SRM Carrier"

"Careful out there Rover, that heavy Vee is a beast"

"Sir, I keep losing them in the hills, they are trying to sneak up on our flank!"

"Rog, Sarg, keep an eye out for the weapons carrier, she's an SRM boat!"

jBexOVn.jpg

"Contact!..Firing!"

Most of our shots miss!

1t6HU9E.jpg

Our tank fires on the Commando, since he's running flat out behind cover, only 1 hits.

7wTqal0.jpg

Our Crab sneaks up to the top of a hill and pokes her weapons over the top!

FOOOOOMMM!!!!!

"Damned PPCs!"

6FxLjvi.jpg

Our tanks go hull down on reverse lopes while our mechs stay mobile. We have them pinned down in a valley. The enemy Awesome is climbing the hill for a better shot on our tanks. Their SRM carrier is moving through the valley trying to get a bead on our Crab.

"Sir! The Awesome is cresting!"

"Focus fire!"

d8CQ9mz.jpg

Our entire lance fires on the Awesome. The PPC carrier completely misses, but the rest manage 6 damage. The enemy mech staggers into some trees but manages to stay standing.

CrBRuRc.jpg

The Awesome returns fire, but only 1 PPC connects with our Manticore.

6YVqnvq.jpg

"Charge! Let's take him out!"

The Awesome is stripped bare of armor and we inflict multiple critical hits. Fire billows from the Awesome, but he still stands, a massive tank of a mech.

tF42qqx.jpg

"Incoming!"

A swarm of SRMs come over the hill and smash into the right side of the Crab. The Awesome draws down on our mech and blasts off an arm mounted Large Laser.

"Sir, that last shot f$#%ed me up bad, I'm fall back!"

d0UUibJ.jpg

"Firing!.....LEGGED HIM!!!!"

IQW2ZTY.jpg

"I'm taking multiple laser hits! They are sniping over the hill at my position!"

NFd5Hdi.jpg

Our Crab continues to back pedal. She gets into a position to fire on the Locust, but the Commando swoops in for the finishing shot.

70kLM4C.jpg

Immediately after, our Manticore finishes the Awesome!

bC6PGCA.jpg

FOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Capellan goes full Alpha on our tank and takes out a gun with his parting shot!

"Peakaboo!"

qzgAZBu.jpg

A medium laser blasts the rear of the SRM launcher disabling a weapon!

mCFGytm.jpg

The enemy Locust runs flat out for a lvl 2 cliff while the Commando exchanges fire with our Manticore. The Commando is stripped of armor while our tank takes yet another critical hit! The SRM carrier backs up against a hill and turns to face our Cicada.

Uku38Kp.jpg

We get initiative on the SRM carrier and circle behind it again, but the Commando manages to get behind us. We finish the vehicle off, but the Commando manages to shoot out our rear armor.

"FIRE!"

dP6qRrL.jpg

"One less enemy walker!"

"That Locust has run behind another hill, Mechwarrior, get on him!"

"Roger, chasing him down"

fwlBIrq.jpg

"Pursuing through canyon!........"

"Incoming fire!....Firing!"

"Popped him with my laser!"

"Try to flank him!"

SruDxvC.jpg

"Negative Commander, she's too fast!"

The Locust wins initiative and legs it off the battlefield.

Nothing much changed this battle. We lost the Crab for good, the Awesome is a molten heap. The SRM carrier went nuclear and detonated, and the Commando was a total loss. We're gonna continue moving back to base with our horde of loot!

In 2594, Triad Technologies developed the Stalker for the SLDF to bring the Periphery to heel during the Reunification War. There was a demand for a mech capable of bringing massive firepower to bear at all ranges. What we got would be come legend. These machines have fought their way through over 4 centuries. Some of the original machines are still fighting, broken down joints requiring refits to lighten the load of the sheer level of weaponry these things had on them from the factory. Dropping their weight from 85, down to 75 or even 70 tons. What has become known as the "standard" Stalker is the 3F. This mech carries: 2 LRM-10s, 2 Large Lasers, 4 Medium Lasers and 2 SRM-6s, with only 20 standard heatsinks to handle all that firepower. This means that the pilot either has to pick the weapons in the best range bracket, or get at the minimum range of the LRMs and "alpha strike", firing all weapons on the mech and taking a MASSIVE heat penalty, risking a shutdown.

For over 2 centuries, the Stalker was the standard Star League assault mech before being surpassed by the 100 ton Atlas. But still, in the 31st century, they are still fighting over the scraps of civilization. Each generation of pilots patching them up and keeping their death machines going. As luck would have it, the Stalker we have in the next scenario is one of the later production Star League mechs. Age hasn't taken its toll to the extent of having to reduce weight, she's still at her stock 85 ton rating.

Intel received, Commander.

I've heard Triad Technologies had a simple marketing slogan for this Mech : "It's not flashy. It's not the cutting edge. It just keeps coming".

Let's just make sure we've got our Cronol PR system comms setup absolutely tuned right. We wouldn't want there to be any misunderstandings when it starts firing all that on target coordinates... grin.gif

This piece of lore is nice, tnx. I do find it exceedingly unlikely that any piece of equipment would live to be used for centuries, however romantic that feels. Not because od wear and tear - more because of becoming totally obsolete with the development. Even today we see the development run over previous technologies very fast, and it is becoming an ever faster process.

True, military does its best to use the built equipment for longer, as not everything is prone to becoming obsolete equally fast and unless a revolutional step is made in say ship hull construction, the same ones will be modernized for decades.

Meh, just rambling, love the lore.

Basically, it's a new dark age after a golden age. People can't replace the old tech with anything better, and things gradually wear out, or are destroyed. So you end up with these patchwork weapons systems where you might have half the stock components, a few factory replacements, and a whole lot of bodged together hacks to keep the machine running.

"Base, Rover here. I'm picking up some sigs over near Highway 4, they ours?"

"Neg, Rover, I show your reinforcements inbound cross country about 2 klicks to the northwest."

"Rog base, we'll stay frosty 'til our backup gets down here!"

"I've got a bad feeling about this..."

3VKKctt.jpg"Base looks like we've got a support lance escorting some APCs in to move in on our salvage"

"We're outnumbered real bad here, ETA on support?"

"We're inbound, Rover, keep yer pants on!"

"Flank speed! They're trying to cut us off!"

"Let's take these hills and dig in, there's no way we can hold them off otherwise without that mech support!"
