The Longest Rebellion 2

Recommended Posts

new week, new report. Let's start with our next mission Troop Column ambush to reduce Enemy Strength in region and gain some corpses and stuff.

https://i.imgur.com/ugckyLE.jpg

We start on a landing pad of some sorts for the ADVENT dropship. We quickly find the biggest pod also know as the Rainbow Pod.

https://i.imgur.com/YK97kqO.jpg

Once they've moved down so we could get elevation bonus we spring the trap. It took few turns but this pod was mostly broken from the start. Once they were dealt with we had to find the rest. Unfortunately that location we were in had big flaw. Lots of line of sight was obscured and the building the rainbow pod started had two turrets. We run into pods with sectoids who did manage to get a mind control on two of our units. We had to be careful not to wound the mind controlled one and not be shot by him to. Unfortunately one turret lucky hit prevented this mission from going flawlessly.

Next on the radar was immediate heaven defense mission.

https://i.imgur.com/YxzT49p.jpg

Our starting position was sort of like palace from C&C generals building. We were on top on the evac zone was being prepared almost in one of the corners nearby. There were few visible rebels so we got them but the farthest away had to be searched by our shinobi who even got some equipment removed just to have extra mobility. By the turn 5 we had our hands full and one of the soldiers was half way back to the evac zone.

https://i.imgur.com/pDgW3KR.jpg

Our last turn was with remaining two snipers hiding behind rocks and praying not to be shot. All in all we safely evacuated 80% of the rebels. Unfortunately 2 of them were somewhere too deep hidden which sort of me thinks that those rebel searching is stupid.

https://i.imgur.com/ewKQOrn.jpg

Next on the radar is another Engineer rescue mission.

https://i.imgur.com/L4yh5lh.jpg

This mission was sort of very frustrating. Specially the end. Right at the start we activated 2 pods with 2 sectoids.

https://i.imgur.com/pLL8mrK.jpg

We sort of managed to survive first alien turn, but then our high % shots were completely missing or not doing enough damage. And of course the other way around enemy just did not care for high cover. This mission was a pain and because of that we almost lost one and 2 others were severely wounded.

https://i.imgur.com/yn51mUF.jpg

Following this mission we had a counter dark event mission.

https://i.imgur.com/ZnBxqB6.jpg

Our start was also already blocked by a pod, but because we had concealment we had the first word (and final) in this fight.

https://i.imgur.com/LT4XKY9.jpg

Starting hot, we dealt swiftly with 2 pods. One included new unit type Advent Scout. A super accurate, super evasive unit that upgrades to commando with even more ridiculous bonuses. Also this mission was haunted by the ghost of everlasting machine gun fire. Once we dealt with the initil pods we rushed to the objective were another pod was awaiting. With a little of luck they were dealt effortlessly.

https://i.imgur.com/Jdb6o5a.jpg

Next we had another depo raid.

https://i.imgur.com/h0F5LAs.jpg

The map remainded me of this hard depo raid from the first try. Fortunately this time it went better. Despite encountering pod with a MEC just outside the depo, the pod was removed efficiently. So efficiently that those 3 just casually walked outside.

https://i.imgur.com/xrvNVFu.jpg

And then inside even a Muton was not even scary. Well considering that A) he got naded, axe thrown and lasered to the face... Anyway easy mission.

https://i.imgur.com/0YVll83.jpg

Depo raids should come more often, being poor is not fun. Next we had a jailbreak mission. 1 rookie and few rebels.

https://i.imgur.com/Sf9EdvE.jpg

22 turn mission turned into one half of getting there and killing all the aliens. And then running back fending of the reinforcements.

https://i.imgur.com/Ry5TtRC.jpg

And again a lucky shot prevented from scoring this flawlessly.

https://i.imgur.com/8kXWDGJ.jpg

And we sort of end just like we started, with Supply raid (stop region from being reinforced), but this time with less enemies.

https://i.imgur.com/o16dAdr.jpg

Less enemies means more breathing space. And though we begun rather close and personal.

https://i.imgur.com/i9rKzLR.jpg

In the end we were never there.

Failure is not an option.

Next on the agenda is capturing VIP

https://i.imgur.com/4tevGhR.jpg

Here we've tried to make a circle around the building and tried to enter from the rear. Unfortunately one sentry drone prevented from stealthy approach and also the back entrance was also covered. Thankfully Tycho managed to land a good rocket, blowing the rear guard from the roof.

https://i.imgur.com/yTlb28f.jpg

When returning with the VIP in tow, we had to fight of one reinforcement pod and then a second one. The second one was not needed but I made a call to kill them too. This sort of was a bad idea, but we eventually managed to do it flawlessly.

https://i.imgur.com/W4X9Axx.jpg

Next mission is item recovery from the train. Here Rookie SV gets his first contact with the aliens.

https://i.imgur.com/wf3IoC1.jpg

In the first turns we have found a small pod of 3. Using suppressors we strangely managed to kill them without blowing our cover. However once we reached close enough to the objective we had to go loud.

https://i.imgur.com/aaaqGcQ.jpg

A little few risky moments there and few panics on SV from those group of sectoids, but eventually another perfect execution.

https://i.imgur.com/2F67eGM.jpg

Moving on, a network tower assault.

https://i.imgur.com/JwoMQLQ.jpg

And like I said before. Shinobi went pass every patrol to the command room and then we dropped the wrecking ball.

https://i.imgur.com/7rMhsDO.jpg

There was another pod of snek and 2 sectoids further down the road who did make this encounter a little more thrilling, but no big mistakes were done.

https://i.imgur.com/hlJkb0j.jpg

Right after this, we had another faceless encounter. Ivan Dogovich has gathered few of the trusty rebels for a manhunt(?)

https://i.imgur.com/IT20OLC.jpg

The rendezvous place was found and we begun the attack.

https://i.imgur.com/sl1H7we.jpg

What appeared to be nice and quick mission, turned out to a very lucky ending. We almost lost 1-2 rebels because of bad rolls on aiming. Still a victory is a victory, rebels can be wounded.

https://i.imgur.com/guzbzee.jpg

Following that mission we had destroy relay mission.

https://i.imgur.com/Rt6HR3X.jpg

From now on, the missions just started to get more dangerous. Our guns were not doing enough damage or we were lacking men power on missions (due to low time of infiltration that we had). Anyway in this mission we almost managed to get near the relay, there we had a drop on a pod standing near explosive barrel. But after we have initiated a fight soon we were flanked by a pod with Advanced officer.

https://i.imgur.com/T3dqbcP.jpg

At this time Advanced officers are a pain. And also near the objective we have a MEC to deal. So that's two units with amount of HP that cannot be dealt with easily. There was no place for a mistake, though few bad rolls happened in the end we managed.

https://i.imgur.com/B3iQum7.jpg

After that mission we had a one that turned out way too easy.

https://i.imgur.com/lbTO1Vh.jpg

We've almost immediately went all over the aliens.

https://i.imgur.com/rEBAFbe.jpg

Only those 2 could have done something terrible, but they didn't.

https://i.imgur.com/5dA5gq3.jpg

And last mission for Today, another item recovery from the chest of goodies.

https://i.imgur.com/XgRXlU3.jpg

This mission was all the way uphill. Bad cover for us, good cover for aliens. And we even tried to level the playing field, but it faild.

https://i.imgur.com/Em6pXSa.jpg

So it was brute force to the end. No mistakes allowed.

Let's move on with the resistance. We are following with lots of rescue operations. First of such is rescue a VIP. A rag tag team of mixture is assembled.

https://i.imgur.com/n5GGign.jpg

Our cover was blown rather surprisingly fast, but it didn't matter since it was extremely light mission. Our prisoner was kept near a big party building. All the demolition was done there. Guess we rocked too hard?

https://i.imgur.com/qHwXuIZ.jpg

Anyway we've got the VIP. Few wounds got there because of those lucky low percentage shots. Thankfully nothing serious.

https://i.imgur.com/R9q8hst.jpg

The following mission we had rescue some resistance members and new rookies.

https://i.imgur.com/DsVPHpd.jpg

(Yes I noticed numbers are mixed up. It happens).

Again our presence was noticed too soon, however nothing serious happened because of this. We kept the pressure on the enemies.

https://i.imgur.com/CQgZdaE.jpg

Few dicey moments here and there, but it went super easy.

https://i.imgur.com/8EkBEB6.jpg

Then came the hotline mission.

https://i.imgur.com/lQG0ySs.jpg

As usual with protecting intelligence data tap, where main force starts there are 2 pods that will intercept it and 1-2 other pods (depending on region strength) will attack the rebels. We were deployed close to one border of the map, so I guessed that a Pod must be there. And since we know where they are it's better to attack them first and fast before we have to fight 2 pods from both directions.

https://i.imgur.com/sGy4oWP.jpg

While we were engaging this pod, the rebels were fending off another pod and unfortunately one of the rebels did not manage to dodge that one attack. So this sort of was the first casualty of the campaign, but sort of rebels do not count so practically we are in clean state?

https://i.imgur.com/raSnAIB.jpg

Next in the queue we have yet another rescue mission. Because XCOM is 911 simulator ;)

https://i.imgur.com/NExdyNC.jpg

We've got a huge map here. We had to run entire map to get the VIP and run back to the evac zone where we started. On top of that most of the enemies were just guarding the van.

https://i.imgur.com/9BahdMy.jpg

On the way back we run into few reinforcements and we almost lost one of the clone troopers, because flanking shot miss and of course the enemy had to crit. Thankfully he was not killed but put in bleed out state. And that is why you want medics as specialists, because they can revive from distance.

https://i.imgur.com/Fyrzo8n.jpg

A little brake now from rescuing. Time to get some precious supplies.

https://i.imgur.com/lMfHqv8.jpg

Right from the start we got some action. Fortunately large map with little enemies meant we could rush all we want. And even get a surprise attack inside the depot.

https://i.imgur.com/FM3zBU3.jpg

Once we got the loot, the last pod was awaiting near the evac zone, but if we got map control they will not stop us.

https://i.imgur.com/jbMDlhP.jpg

Our next mission was pretty much a suicide run. I don't know why I even thought about doing this. And I will probably never do it again. We had a reinforcement supply raid that we start at 3% infiltration. That means no starting concealment except shinobi. Enemies have visual range of gods (on top of that Dark Event that increases their detection range)

https://i.imgur.com/CCckV59.jpg

But the game sort of likes to give us a helping hand. First it sort of "pans" around the map showing some of the pods. In our starting position we had a pod just a few tiles away. I've also saw a tile where I could not move because of a unit. This sort of gave me a hint how to begin this. With precise calculations where I could move my shinobi I moved in such a way that I could sneak past everyone to a better position. Thankfully the pod did not move to our location so I could begin the fight on my terms. The first pod had a good oportunity to be killed in one big swipe. A good rocket cleared almost entire rainbow pod. And then we held up on the big building and killed everything that heard the blasts.

https://i.imgur.com/QqM7PsF.jpg

The amount of HPs some pods had was just insane. I don't know how I've managed - lots of luck for crits was involved here I guess.

https://i.imgur.com/fa3vRrF.jpg

After that we had another frustrating mission.

https://i.imgur.com/UPygv4t.jpg

Frustrating because all those damnable rebels were so spread out that it was not funny. Just running entire map after them and we did encounter a faceless. After turn 5, the reinforcement drops were barely manageable.

https://i.imgur.com/sDzHgWW.jpg

The last turns were like running on luck, but we've did it

*chuckles* Drunken and disorderly!

I suspect he tried to psi-link with your colourful trooper in leather shorts and couldn't handle the contents of his mind. :P

Actually, I'd probably save that screenshot for posterity, silencer. Seriously, it's a great arrangement and you never know - may turn out useful in a future 2K contest where they ask fans to submit their most memorable XCOM 2 screenshots.

  • 1 month later...

So having finished my like ~270th mission for this campaign, that somewhat doesn't want to end ;) (I could but you know fun). I've come up with an idea of a "competition": "The snipeiest of them all". Rules are: Be MSGT rank and score minimum of 100 kills.

Your hosts for this "competition" will be:

xFX7XK2.jpg

Slaughterer - scoring 137 kills in 41 missions. That's 3.34 kills per mission and yours favorite Space Voyager, scoring 167 kills in only 27 missions, that gives: 6.1 kills per mission. Isn't that impressive?

But let's see the "competitors".

Category: Sharpshooters.

From Galaxy Far Far away, a clone trooper Commando that specializes in hunting and killing any alien that needs to be dead, here is RC-1207 also known as "Sev" - 207 kills in 47 missions, that gives average of 4.47 kills per mission.

EdVTvY2.jpg

A little known youtuber, she isn't sacred of anything mostly doing horror games an American Sniper: Forksnapper, with 172 in 27 missions, that gives 6.37 kills per missions.

ligz45V.jpg

Another youtuber, you might know him from some of the X-COM videos. Ivan Dogovich (not from Russia ;) ). Reports 136 confirmed kills in 36 missions, which averages on 3.77 kills per mission, despite being more of a support sniper specing mostly on holotargeting helping others.

WPTccTk.jpg

And last but not least, she saved Arulco probably many many times from the Evil Queen Deaidrana. Considered one of the best Mercs in Jagged Alliance series, here is "Raven". 137 kills in 25 missions averaging 5.48 kills per mission.

ICjueXQ.jpg

Next category: Rangers.

Again from galaxy Far Far away, a clone trooper Commando, a leader and true warrior: RC-1138 "Boss" scores impressive rating of 159 kills in 47 missions avg. 3.38.

kghoOPm.jpg

Next we have yet another great merc from Jagged Alliance series, one of the best and expensive mercs. Here is "Magic": 110 kills under 37 missions - avg. 2.97

WLBkSrL.jpg

And final entry from this category. Yet another merc from Jagged Alliance. Here is Raider. Just barely passing the limit: 109 kills in 37 missions - avg. 2.94

6xPyA6H.jpg

Category: Gunners

You probably won't be surprised but we have another person from Jagged Alliance, one the most hated mercs, but we can agree that she knows how to handle a big gun. Here is "Buzz" racking 128 kills in 42 missions - avg. 3.04 kills.

dlwZWjk.jpg

And the second entry is again from Galaxy Far Far away - clone trooper Rex - scoring 117 kills in 42 missions - 2.66 kills.

8yecOsb.jpg

Category: Shinobis

You probably already are used to it, but again we have entry from Jagged Alliance series: Probably one of the never used mercs: "La Malice" sliced and diced 119 aliens in 41 missions - avg. 2.9 kills.

UjITPUV.jpg

Again from Galaxy Far Far away, yet another clone trooper - "Fives" - bringing impressive 112 kills under 39 missions - avg. 2.87 kills

uKSx3aj.jpg

And finally someone you probably know. Here is Hobbes our X-COM modder - 102 kills under 36 missions - avg. 2.83 kills

eBjfL5o.jpg

And finally: Technicals.

We only have one entry, but at least it's not someone from Jagged Alliance. You should also know him: Tycho - just celebrating his 100th kill - 102 kills in 39 missions - avg. 2.61 kills

DBiH2Ud.jpg

Unfortunately other classes can't keep up with them.

In ranger the highest score of kills has my avatar: 90 kills in like 35-40 missions, following by Sunflash - 86 kills. Zombie is leading in Specialists with 60 kills, Grenadiers also somewhere in the 60s. PSI Ops lowly 30-36 kills.

Who is the winner? You decide. There are no winners, only dead aliens.

Holly god damn Batman.

8DLIou2.jpg

If it wasn't for BBs and Zombies perma control of two Sectopods this would have been a squad wipe. This is the stupidiest thing Long War can provide. 5 Pods in one visual range from each other. And this was overinfiltrated, which means enemies should have been more spread out. From turn 1 I had like 22 active enemies and on turn 2 I had like 38. Not only that Hobbes almost died because of the 7% graze, and Mr. T got hit twice with 28% chance. And my sectopods like got 10 7% crits. That's not XCOM that's cheating.

When you send a team full of Doomguys, you also have to change the background "noise" a little, so for this mission I've swapped the default XCOM 2 soundtrack with that from Doom 2016. Does it work? Will it work with non all Doomguy squad? You decide.

In order to change a soundtrack I had to install additional 2 mods. Unfortunately this comes with a side effect. Whenever game has a hiccup, the music also has one, unlike in vanilla, when this wasn't the case. Unfortunately the poor optimization of XCOM 2, the hiccups are plenty.

Mind messing in nature. NKF edition. I've sort of got a vibe that there should be some pony from MLP in the background somewhere. Or maybe as the background with evil grin sort as if it was controlling NKF to do it's bidding.

eEoDUo8.jpg

All aboard the pain train. Strategy Core edition. Though I wish all aliens died in that same area, but hey There should be ~20 corpses here. Can you find them all?
