I've obviously been under a rock for the last couple months as I didn't hear of Phoenix Point till now. Anyhow, found a nice interview from Eurogamer's Chris Bratt on YouTube:

Just received a newsletter from Phoenix Point. Not a whole lot of stuff to report, but there is a short teaser video up which has a soundtrack by none other than the venerable John Broomhall. He will be the composer and audio director for the project which I think is fantastic! StrategyCore's webcomic Deep Rising also gets a mention in the newsletter. smile.png

A little more news from Phoenix Point. First, they put out a new newsletter which you can find here. In it they name two writers which joined the team, there's a concept art image, and also a link to the subreddet AMA (ask me anything) with Julian himself answering questions you pose. (I'll provide the direct link here to make it easier to find). ;)

Today I got another email from them, and this time you can take a survey on what you find important for a game of this magnitude. Not sure how much difference taking the survey will do as evidence from the subreddet replies from Julian where it looks like a lot of things are already set, but hey, it doesn't take long at least. :)

Thanks for linkage, Zombie! :)

That survey is, frankly, rather preposterous. :P Simply because, if you must ask such questions of others about what should matter most in your game, you're essentially saying you don't know what you ultimately want to achieve, what experience you aim to provide and, therefore, what is to define your game.

So, yes, I'm glad to see a solid amount of definition already in Julian's answers about Phoenix Point on reddit. I expected no less.

It's a very ambitious design overall but, as they say, the proof is in the pudding. A truly great game is one that is more than simply the sum of its parts.

Julian Gollop was at E3, where he met up with Jake Solomon again. Here's the bit from the Phoenix Point email:

Two generations of XCom designers raise a glass

During E3, Julian was able to grab a quick lunch with Jake Solomon of Firaxis, lead designer of the modern XComs. Julian's original works have long been a great inspiration to Jake, and the two took some time to talk about XCom, Phoenix Point, and of their passion for creating fantastic squad tactics games. Before parting ways to make other appointments, the two generations of XCom designers share a well-deserved drink together.

The following day, Jake gave an interview to PCGamesN, where he talks about the new XCom 2 expansion and his relationship with Julian. Jake discusses how the success of XCom and of Phoenix Point are both good for one another. You can find the interview on YouTube here.

Is it just me or is that a fantastic picture? I want a hi-res version to use as my computers desktop background (move over Kate Beckinsale)! ;)
